OMG .I was born in 1974, I'm 36, grew up listening to Metallica ,guns n roses, and Run DMC...not exactly a "Elvis friendly " era...and this man drives me nuts! He is sooooo freakin hot! NO GENERATION COULD THINK THAT *ELVIS PRESLEY* IS NOT THE BEST- COOLEST- FREAKIN ENTERTAINER THAT EVER LIVED! no not Michael Jackson - he's. Maybe number 2...Sinatra ? Maybe #3..little Richard ? JERRY lee lewis? Ray charles? All legends.but ELVIS PRESLEY? undeniable #1 !
You know what was so cool about Elvis? See all those gorgeous babes around the pool? At the snap of his fingers, he could have had his way with every last one of them. Now, that's cool, gentlemen.
My eBay seller says for a 45 record lot, says "Mostly Rock", and I get PERRY COMO? EDDY ARNOLD? LAWRENCE WELK? JUNE VALLI? BILLY VAUGHN? JOE VALINO? Polkas? You're so square, baby I don't care!
When ever I collect 45 record lots and see names in a random lot about '50s and '60s music with mostly names such as Welk, Mathis, Bennett, Williams, Como, Laine, and even Boone, this song resonates in my head to the seller on eBay! All you You're Hit Parade artists, you're so square, baby I don't care!
@pannoni1 And now I get a Ralph Marterie version of Maybelline. I guess some square folks were trying to bridge the generation gap (Pat Boone is another).
The story-Elvis always liked recording live with the band. This track the band was recorded without him and he didn't want to sing to the track but he did because RCA wanted it done for the movie and as an RCA release. Elvis said on tape that they'd never use the vocal but they did. That is the recording that you hear today!
"I don't know why my heart flips, I only know it does; I wonder why I love you baby, I guess it's just because...you're so square...baby I don't care" lol, what a great lyric. Timeless; this song still jams all these years later..../sigh
Love it! One of my favorite Elvis songs! Also get a kick out of seeing Scotty Moore, D. J. Fontana, and Bill Black performing in the movie with EP. They are legends in and of themselves. Long live the King!
Elvis is said to have played the Fender Precision bass on this cut. Bill Black was trying to switch from standup and was having trouble but Elvis could play it no sweat so they had him do it. The reason everyone looks so dead was that people in high places were afraid of the reaction if girls were dancing with abandon in their bikinis. You see that in a lot of old rocknroll clips--the audience stock still to avoid controversy.
I think I could seriously have a heart attack when I see this clip! How aren't the girls in this scene screaming?!! I scream and I watch it on TV! Wow, he was so charismatic and alive. What a shame the colonel ruined his acting career. I swear I am reborn from the 50's. He was the King and will always be.
This song was written by Mike Stoller and Jerry Leiber. Jerome "Jerry" Leiber (born April 25, 1933) and Mike Stoller (born March 13, 1933) are among the most influential American songwriters and music producers in post-World War II popular music.
They were inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1985 and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987.
J“Hound Dog", “Love Potion No. 9”, “Kansas City", “On Broadway”, “Ruby Baby” (Dion) “Stand By Me. Their vast catalog includes virtually every major hit by the Coasters (e.g., “Searchin’,” “Young Blood,” “Charlie Brown,” “Yakety Yak” and “Poison Ivy"). They also worked their magic on Elvis Presley, writing “Jailhouse Rock,” “Treat Me Nice” and “You’re So Square (Baby I Don’t Care)” specifically for him, "Love Me, Jailhouse Rock"

I know who This is! This is the slim 22 year old Elvis Presley, son of Gladys and Vernon Presley. He was born in 1935 Tupelo, Mississippi and rose to fame in 1956 and this is a clip from 1957's Jailhouse Rock! I don't know anything about the Elvis the person below is talking about. An impersonator maybe?
yeah........ I guess you could say that.. but im calling the mental hospital right know. so when the men in white clothes drive you away. just think of what you said
@shmuli9 Um, this clip is from "Jailhouse Rock." Elvis made it in like around 1956. I looove the movie and the song... and Elvis!!!!! <3 <3 Hope that answers your question. :) Have an awesome day!!!
It's really amazing how even people like Robert Plant and Freddie Mercury respect Elvis, he was a great singer. R.I.P. Elvis, Freddie, MJ. They all died too soon.

All my respects to my beloved Elvis Presley. The best king of music that has ever existed. Thank God that Elvis was given to this world, he was an enormous gift to us elvis fans.
This and "Mean Women Blues" from Loving You are Elvis's two greatest film performances. In this instance he was backed by his original Sun Records band and performing an incomparable Leiber-Stoller original.
