'All you guys ever do is trash Bendis's works'!!!!!!!!!!!! Okay, baby mode change tooooo a-hole mode, your trashing of Bendis's newer works and the stupidity of some idiots on the net is why I love your vids, lol my only tiff is how do you guys hit the nail on the head almost every time!? I can't even bitch in private without you guys posting up a similar rant on the net, except your rants a lot more eloquent... STOP IT! (Baby mode re-activated)
It is a shame how mercenary the publishing world is, the mainstream publishing world, I think it is a necessity born out of the fact that print media in general is in a scary place today with the advent of the internet. During my brief stint at a comic company which shall remain nameless, the atmosphere was so charged I could have lit a match and the entire island would have gone up.
The topic was about the current situation between Marvel and DC; not the history of comic companies acting like dicks. If DC were currently doing that to the Siegel estate, the guys would have called bullshit just as loudly.
Annoying and so wrong? Just like the fanboys who complain about the Kirby Estate? Guess I did my job! Oh yeah, the whiny fanboy voice isn't going anywhere! IT'S HERE TO STAY! LOL!
It also strikes me as hollow that Marvel wants comics to be seen as a valid form of literature. Authors are always credited when their creations are used. It also on the whole goes a long way toward professionalism to admit who created their moneymakers.
Great Video, guys but have to add that you guys didn't touch upon the Marvel trade promotion for a Deadpool variant. It's not the same to read it as it is to hear Jose rip it to shreds in a video. Keep up the good work.
Definition of irony: A comic book company raises the prices of it's line of books to make comic books seen as "more valuable" and "less disposable". Same company, however, is unwilling to partial credit to the surviving family members of an artist who practically invented the Marvel Universe as we know it. If Jack Kirby had gone to work in Hollywood instead of Timely Comics, he would be as big as Speilberg, and there would be a monument built in his likeness on Hollywood Blvd. How sad.
I had totally forgotten about Disney in this whole deal. As bad as Marvel's upper management is acting in this deal, you have to wonder if they are just flunkies for the real bad guys.
Kind of like Goku defeating the Ginyu Force after hard fought battle and realizing he still has to fight Freeza. We all know how long that battle took. I don't see things changing at Marvel for a very long time.
can marvel and comic book industry afford to set a president giving copyright rights to creator families? first jack kirby who is next? are they afriad of the domino affect? is dc behind marvel on this? are they afraid they are the next target?
id like see a business none comic site article on this.
The same company of lawyers that are with the Kirby's on this have already won some victories for the Siegel family against DC. Post 1970 DC were pretty good to creators (Kirby got MUCH better treatment from DC than from Marvel regarding royalties and credit) but pre 1970 when Donenfield and Liebowitz were in charge DC were pretty dodgy.
Props have to go to Carmine Infantino and Neal Adams who led the fight for creator rights in the 1970s, DC were the first to give royalties and artwork back.
What I find amusing is that Marvel was made to push the future of comics by making non cape wearing edgy characters and yet they are now behind the times of DC who stayed old school.
you guys got more views with siege, people wanted to know about what you guys thought, jose you got a point about blair butler good with indies not the other companies
I'm telling ya' I'm starting to think about dropping Marvel altogether, it's mean to deny Kirby & his family his due. If Stan Lee can get his let the Kirby's get theirs.
Your blog is great. Got some fine songs on them too and thanks to the blog I also picked up the first trade of Chew..which was a really good book..and only 10$..the hitler spoof video on blackest night was also kind of funny.
Marvel's assault on Kirby back in the 80's was one thing. But, to sue his family for DARING to want acknowledgement of Jack's great creations? That's crap! Marvel has always had lawyers who kill any creator's claims to their creations. Marvel never created anything. Kirby deserves respect at least. Marvel's lawyers don't understand respect. They think credit belongs to the corporation. Bottom line;No Kirby= No Marvel.
I forgot to cast someone for you Elliott... maybe John Leguizamo?? Oh, and what's that I hear in the background Jose?? ;)
It is shameful the way marvel is treating their past creators. If I was working at marvel I'd be considering pulling a JMS and defecting to the Distinguished Competition right about now.

Hey guys, have you considered attaching a forum to your blog?

This channel should be called DC Comic Culture Warrior. This is no different than the Superman/Siegel lawsuit that you didnt even mention.
LANCET1000 2 years ago
Yeah....and? Where do we say what DC did then is any better than what Marvel is doing now?

@comicculturewarrior Didn't DC/Siegel & Shuster thing get settled in 1978?
johnnyhorror92182 2 years ago
"DC Comic Culture Warrior"?
That's pretty clever. You could probably get a gig writing New Avengers with wit like that.

more of a rhetorical question but why dosen't Secret Warriors have a "Nick Fury created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby" credit?
Also FF dosen't have proper creator credits, they have bullshit weasel words like "past prologue" and stuff like that.
Issue 570 had Stan Lee, Jack Kirby - The Final Solution. Which considering both men are jewish is pretty dumb on marvel editorials part.
locusmortis 2 years ago
The final solution? Yeesh! How'd that get past the editors?
Morlock50 2 years ago
I may get angry but I don't lost my temper...not usually ;)
And I agree regarding Kurt Busiek, he was epic in his clinical dissection of the fanboys in the CBR comments.
locusmortis 2 years ago
It's funny how many times Kurt had to post that the Kirby family was not suing Marvel. Funny in a tragic/comic sort of way.
