  • Ah, bgcorporation & I must think alike, All systems are good, anyone who attenda martial arts class must choose carefully, it is how the system is paased down, one must ask can a teacher break down what is shown, and various ways to use it, not only this can the teacher impart on students the essence of the art, how tuse their minds not only for the art but in life as well????

  • this guy is really nice and relaxed. i can tell. i don't do tai chi, i do have experience with martial arts. compare this vid o that guy in england with those combat tai chi vids, this guy's way better. so many ppl on youtube are too rigid in all there martial art techniques. theres so much garbage out ther, its crazy. i really feel bad that so many people will go and learn from people who have a pathetic grasp on how the art(s) is ment to be.

  • Some of this reminds me of wing chun , hand movements that is , just kind of proves that in this case , kung fu ( styles) branched off from each other.

  • jajajajjaja

  • @kirokaycore care to elaborate?

  • Wow its like Chinese Judo.

  • Are bell bottoms back in style?

  • in a sense this is groundbeaking drills, chinese soft flow drills, with kuzushi-type unbalancing throwing. what a flow this is very appealing,a lot of people could learn from this. incredible flow. I've read articles about Hawkins Cheung before, but never saw any of his stuff. It's great to see the old masters showing their stuff. great vid. thanks for posting

  • So many of these moves are used it UFC.

  • 2 words...COOL VIDEO!!!!...5* :)

  • @lonepantherkmt ?

@ lonepatherkmt What I am talking about is the way the techniques are applied, not the techniques themselves. In many of the moves he is recruiting way too much local muscle strength instead of peng or ground strength, which is one of the hallmarks of Neijia. His throws are great but are executed in much more of a Judo/Waija fashion...

  • @joscofe I see nothing wrong with there technique, the goal is to use more technique and the opponents momentum and balance against them rather then using just brute strength, but in a REAL fight every technique still requires strength to work. its scientific fact....Judo is called the gentleway bekuz its soft so I wouldnt call it waijia.......just a thought

  • @lazy702622 Judo is called the gentle way yes...and it is...until you hit the ground.

  • @lazy702622 As sophisticated as Judo is, it is definitely an external art (waijia)!! "Softness" is not the distinguishing feature between waijia and neijia. The internal arts of Taiji, Hsingi, Yiquan and Bagua focus on completely different movement and power principles than Judo, i.e. fajing, chan si jin, not to mention rooting, which is non-existent in Judo! (BTW: Rooting and balance is NOT the same thing, though rooting can be used to improve balance and thereby increasing power.)

  • @piaten

the real and simple difference between internal and external Chinese martial arts is that Buddhist branches are considered to be of an external influence...India and Taoists styles are considered to be of internal origins to Chinese. Now that's it....Both philosophical systems develop hard and soft principles.

  • very nice video thank you for sharing

  • not Taiji...Not internal....

  • A lot of tai chi techniques has common history with shuai jiao, bc they were both battlefield martial arts originally, throw someone to ground then stab or crush. Then Yang style started to emphasize pushing techniques bc a lot of Yang Luchan's matches were Lei Tai style challenges throwing or pushing people off platforms. You can see why styles look the way they look by looking at their history. Plus tai chi is all about principles not techniques so it can apply to any style.

  • @ThisSentenceIsFalse awesome reply

  • @ThisSentenceIsFalse awesome reply, here is proof of why you are correct... see my video i will send after this posting

  • This, to me, is possibly one of the greatest videos on Youtube. :| Thank you VERY much for the upload. It has given me an even larger outlook on internal martial arts! :D

  • looks like thats where the grappling and throws in sanshou came from

  • 我认为威尔斯和最佳合气道

  • About 5% of this vid is Taiji Quan, the rest is just wrestling!

  • @TwilightFire666 actualy that looks like typical taichi principles applied to throws. Note that they always try to keep a certain equilibrium of balance and use small circular motions coupled with little trips twists or pushes to make the opponent fall. Albeit it does get messy when the other guy knows what you are doing.

  • @TwilightFire666 Tai Chi Chuan encompass shuai(wrestling), na(locking/seizing), and striking from almost any body part.

  • neither is mma graciepurp its a sport, if i take a shot at the neck of one of those mma guys fight over son

  • this is a constant refrain on the 'tube: mma practitioners dissing the internal martial arts. i do not know why it is so prevalent. i do know that there are virtually no taiji practitioners dissing mma on mma videos. what does that tell you?

  • So I was looking around on the internet today to see if any tai chi fighters actually fight in mma/ufc. couldn't seem to find any... haha. Go do you katas you little girls!!!

  • yea, same here. Tai Chi is to get your health better. If some ididot (like this guy in video) can knock into his own head, that tai chi can be used for kombat and if he reali beliaves in this, the sry, he must get some mental help !

  • So what you're saying is, Bruce Lee, someone who practiced Tai Chi is an idiots and needs mental help? Also, you know nothing about Taiji Quan.

  • So I was looking today to see what martial arts Bruce Lee trained in... Guess what his first was? Tai Chi Quan! What a little girl Bruce Lee was. He use to fight on the streets using this martial arts. Bruce Lee is nothing in the martial arts world, he was a painter right? No, probably a musician... Oh well, he absolutely had nothing to do with martial arts at all, that's for sure.

  • maybe thats because mma/ ufc was invented by bjj

  • Its right there in the video! tai chi is a system which teaches martial principles, these guys are playing with some of the principles, looks ok to me!

  • -_- looks gay to me

  • where is tai chi there???

  • That is Tai Chi or Taijiquan demonstration of pushing hands. On that video i see Bruce Lee ( Wing Chun ) .

  • You know. Martial Arts have been around for centuries. They would not be teaching certain martial arts if it didn't work. As a quote would go "There is no better martial art, only the level of man practicing"

  • watch UFC 1,2,3,4 Some martial arts are not practical in REAL situations

  • I hate to break it to you but UFC has rules. Real life combat does not. Not to mention it's rare to really find a UFC Taichi Martial Artist that is dedicated to the art of Taichi to the point where they know beyond the basic forms.

Also, as stated before, if Taichi is not practical it wouldn't have been taught. Taichi in the park is not combat Taichi.

  • Yeah, you're right. I mean Bruce Lee use to practice this, but what does he know? He wasn't a big deal or anything and had nothing to do with Martial Arts.

  • @bgcorporation they definitely would be teaching them if they didnt work, its called blind belief and making money. The thing is its very hard to see if an art works, people can always say it was the persons fault and street fighting can be lethal or end in prison time so isnt a viable testing method. In war, empty hand combat would hardly ever occur, theyd always have some weapon.Tyhe best training is to be found in the combat sports like thaiboxing, boxing wrestling and sub grapping

  • @bgcorporation Well, that is a nice quote, and it would be great if true. But it's not. It's obvious that some martial arts are more effective then others. That is why, for instance, in a fight, thaibox wins more from tkd and tkd wins more from, for instance aikido. It is simply more effective. But offcourse they all require discipline and skill and should be respected

  • Hawkins Cheung was a street fighter and senior wing chun/ wu tai chi practitioner in Hong Kong then later in Australia. Real fighting has no rules and often involves weapons. Standing grappling skills are essential in such circumstances. Live in your dream world. I hope if we ever end up in the dojo together you lay down on the floor and wrap your legs around my waist. lol By the way I have experience in Gracie jiu jitsu and kickboxing. Nice sport, good way to get stabbed or stomped.

  • Yeah the Valente's say that most BJJ gyms only teach the ground form of BJJ but originally Helio who they got there Black Belt from taught a combat art not a SPORTS art. The Valente's were shown teaching some military how to defend against various attacks and the way they taught included stand up attacks.

  • push hands :D

  • Bruce Lee was could walk on water too right??? haha. Bruce Lee is a legend...but he is not a modern day fighter.

  • I will tell you what Mider...how bout I send you a private message. I will tell you where my academy is. You can come in...I will lay 1,000 dollars down that you cannot beat me.

  • Mider, you have nothing to say now that I called you out huh????

  • Taichi in flares..... I am waiting in hope for a 70's kungfu revival.

  • I'm in PA. You come down anytime you want. I'm not paying for you, and you have to sign a waver that when I kick your ass, you don't sue me. Also, a buddy of mine manages MMA fights in the area. I can set something up too. IF any of you are MAN enough, I'll fight you legally on an MMA card. There you can test your worthless Tai Chi.

  • @graciepurplebelt .. worthless Tai Chi? If there was a no holds barred match with tai chi vs bjj im sure tai chi would win ... Im very well knowledgeable about your ground fighting techniques, but you dont have a defense for jointlocks, thats one area MMA is lacking realism

  • Looks kinda like a cross between aikido and judo

  • Only cuz your ignorant to chinese styles of grappling that predate both judo(1880) and aikido(1940s) what you see here is Wu style taijiquan whos methods uses shuao chiao 3000 year old wrestling system from which jujutsu derives there throws and locks from.

  • Cheung is just too cool!

  • Too much muscle use for training purposes however the body mechanics are superb in some cases

  • someone had to use strength and muscle for the other guy to use taijiquan, other wise how would you learn how to deflect, absorb and use your opponents force against them?? This is realistic taijiquan no matter what anyone says. After all you have to use some force to make your opponent react and push back other wise you wont have anything to use against him lol right?

  • Reminds me of old video's of Chen Tin-Hungs students practising.

  • man thats some awesome taiji. REAL taiji, not the hippie stuff we do here in america

  • REAL tai chi chuan is, to bring sb down without touching or moving! especially without muscles! (sry for my bad english!!)

  • what you mean this is real taiji the balance of ming intent witl kan and li fire and water is in harmony with principals and boxing methods of push hand know your facts before you answer, this is taiji....

  • He has some great ideas and techniques, but is utilizing alot of LI FORCE and not Jing. Its great but against a experienced player he wouldnt be so effective.

    Still a nice video!

    PEace

  • In fact, that is a tui-shou fight. It is a style of training in wich the two students have to keep touching each other constantly, that way you sense the movement of your adversay and learn how to take advantage of the moment when the attacker is most vulnerable. But of couse the concepts of tai chi are melt with the basics of tui-shou.

  • looks like wrestling and judo to me...bad wrestling and judo at that.

  • The full potentials of this video are not yet visible.... take my sentence as you will.

  • Exactly. but consider the fact that the guys that evolved taiji understood that grappling is superior to striking in close-quarters, 300 years ago!

    It's a lesson re-learned in MMA.

Another lesson is for traditionalists - real fighting always seems external. seems.

And yes, a medium-level contemporary judoka or wrestler would easily remain the one standing.

  • IF the chinese didnt pioneer what they did like shuao chiao and chinna (wrestling and locking skills) the japanese wouldnt had had jujutsu, and the gracie wouldnt have anything to work with would they? learn your history if your gona be ignorant...

  • My goodness that style of push hands look alot like Wu Style Grandmaster Wu Tai Kwei's methods (son of GM Wu Kong Yee of Macau fight fame)

  • You are right. He learned it from Wu Tai Kwei in 1950s. He told me so.

  • Don't be jealous because gracie jiu jitsu is YEARS above the fake martial arts that the industry tries to produce. It is clearly a joke that people buy into stuff like tai chi and the other crap put out there!!!! The strong evolve--it is not ignorance, but brilliance!!!

  • That's funny, cuz Royce Gracie credited, among other things (yoga conditioning, Tani's kempo exercises), his Tai Chi training for his success in the ring. Apparently, he practices what he preaches and cross-trains as well.

  • Royce's Gracie, out of all the Gracies, knew the least about cross training. He was strictly a jiu jitsu guy. His Tai Chi, or whatever, had NOTHING to do with his UFC success. He proved that in terms of one on one COMBAT arts...the others are a joke!!!

  • I'm just quoting what he said, I figure he knows better how he got where he is than you do.

  • He's ak now it all he probably knows what Royce is doing before Royce does it oh and did you hear? Royce knows the least of BJJ lol yeah thats why he went on to be a champion wow totally brilliant guy we have here talking bull

  • Eh dont listen to the idiot above he's just one of those tards like the MMA guys who say HAHA WING CHUN SUCKS and yet MMA is made up of traditional styles like muay thai and grappling, as well as boxing which by the way Inosanto says is originally from the Phillipines they had a boxing style which had NO RULES and great knife fighting

  • It's amazing that people like him think that the chinese killed eachother over centuries of real warfare with "phony martial arts", LOL. Today's MA state is the result of generations of deterioration through non-use because of the advent of firearms. BJJ is great for cops and civilian defense, but I don't think it will change all that.

  • Dude most BJJ gyms teach sports BJJ they dont teach combat style BJJ which works on the street, If you wanna roll around on the ground were there could be broken glass or were you could have your head stomped your head in. Oh and Tai Chi? Is signtically detectable by proper equipment that can see the energy moving through the body. I bet you think you could kick bruce lee's ass too huh? How about Dan Inosanto why dont you go try and kick his ass he'd probably own you in two seconds

  • Hi!hawkin well done!

    That's the real Tai Chi,Thanks!

  • Listen asshole, First of all I have fought mma--tested my style and WON. look me up...ricky royce. Also, I have my own jiu jitsu school and I teach traditional gracie self-defense as part of my curriculum. I do not teach specifically sport jiu jitsu. I don't teach my guys to do armbars from their back--We do focus on real situations...that is what GRACIE JIU JITSU was founded on.

  • REALLY bad wrestling and judo at that!!!!

  • You think cause your a teacher you have hte right to insult other arts? Why dont you just shut up and go to one of the old masters of Tai Chi or Wing Chun and see what happens.........And do it standing up on your back. But then again you said you didnt have to do it on your back so put up or shut up. Oh and BJJ was adapted from japanese jiu Jitsu wasnt it? A traditional Martial art?

  • Ignore him, he's no true teacher. A true teacher respects other arts. The fact that he disses so easily and blindly shows he knows nothing of Martial Arts. If he spoke to any true sensei with such tongue they would perhaps put him in his place.

  • Very Good...Mplto Bello e Naturale. Bravi!

  • When is the last time a Tai Chi guy actually fought...BTW...Bruce Lee wouldn't last two seconds in the modern day octagon. Although he dabbled in the other arts, he would have been man-handled by a modern day fighter. Don't get me wrong, he is a legend in his own time, but not a modern day fighter!!!!

  • It BOGGLES my mind how ignorant people are about the martial arts. Didn't you guys watch UFC 1,2,3,4 when it was style vs. style. I have trained in many martial arts and have respect for all--but I am sorry Tai Chi is an art form--not a martial art....the stuff he is doing in this video is judo, greco roman wrestling, etc. Not tai-chi

  • stupid! stupid! stupid! big asshole! you know nothing, what a ...........

  • Are you high or something? Seriously are you? Let me tell you something about Bruce Lee he could move so fast that old day slow motion couldnt even catch his movements. he could throw rice into the air and catch it with chopsticks, he could take a coin out of your hand before you could even close your hand and then leave change! He could lift 100 pound dumbbells over his head or stick his arms out holding the same ones......He could do it way better then men twice his size so please STFU

  • Exactly were do you teach? I looked up someone under the name you gave and they mostly said to fight on the ground...........So if you say that you teach traditional BJJ why are you talking about how its better to fight on the ground? Do you think that in an ally with broken glass and needles that you wanan go down on the groound? Do you think that if a guys buddies are by they wont help him? But yeah what gym do you teach in

  • you can look up my website--

  • nice

  • I See the Real Tai Chi Martial Art.

Hope to Meet Teachers Like that.

Hope someone tell me Where can Look for this

    kind of Teacher....

  • wow Hawkins with the double leg takedown! Didnt expect to see that!

  • Excellent! If only more tai chi people trained like this!
