  • i hope im as good as you when im your age man you have such an amazingly smooth touch on the kit you make everything look so natural, check out my vids if you have time away from the gorgeous set!

  • I did never count, till I tried this song... It's just impossible to play on feeling... Even when you think you got that melody in your head. But with the strange signature part from procupine tree's halo I kill myself with counting... So I don't... :P

  • sick drumming....

    100%

  • very very good, nice one mate!!!!!!!!

  • odd times FTW nice playing perfect

  • This could actually be Gavin Harrison as far as I can hear, beautiful!

  • amazing sound!!!awesome man!!

  • awesome performace, man!! really impressing

  • drum sounds are straight from heaven here.

  • Thanks so much! I spend a lot of time working on my sound. This was recorded a while ago. I am in a new room now with different drums. If you could check out my newer vids and let me know what you think of the new sounds, it would be greatly appreciated!!

    -Fran

  • love that snare sound, beautiful, its got that crack to it but also really responsive for all the rolls and ghosts, uhh uhh uhh i like it

  • I LOVE this snare. Literally can play ANY style with it. 14x5.5 Pearl Sensitone Classic. 14" Remo Ambassador on the top and a 14" med snare side hazy on the bottom. Tune it up, tune it down, does not matter. ALWAYS sounds great!

  • WOW!!! i am truly impressed with this!! i love gavin, and love his music. however, you have really stepped it up and have proven with practice and drive, and of course the love for music, that even normal people like us, can play gavin's music!! 5*'s my friend!! keep it up!!

  • you're a hundred percent right about odd times in the description.

    nice playing!

  • badass... im so jealous of you haha, now i gotta hit the practice pad

  • just awesome....(just don't like the sound of the snare)

  • @exmatproton i personally like it, it sonds like its gonna chomp your face off :D not yours personally mind you :L

  • you've done it justice, but of course there's just something about the way gavin plays it

  • nice job man! wish i could play it that smoothly. you play the time signature so well. almost like you've done it before . :P

  • Wow. Great work!!

  • awesome stuff!

  • Good job! You've got a great groove on that song! I really can't say anything else. Just wonderful!

  • Hats of, man! Good job! Love the relaxed feeling you seem to have. Jazzbackground? Beautiful song as well!

  • awesome!!

  • he said in an interview or something that he doesn't count while playing, he just thinks of the groove that the other instruments or vocals are doing, and goes by that...

it really does make things so much easier that way!

  • 19/8 is so difficult. On drums or guitar, I feel the need to count it, which really takes away from my emotive playing.

It's just harder, for me, to get into a groove when the timing is so bizarre.

  • this vid deserves more views. incredible work dude.

  • hey this is awesome. You are very talented I hope you are playing music for a living, you should if your not. Do you know where I could find the Gavin version? I'm not a drummer, but a guitarist with an appreciation for rhythm, i've never heard Gavin's version, is this on some drum vid or something? Great job man.

  • listen to much Dave Weckl ?

  • AMAZING idk y there isnt as many views

  • Relaxed, great playing!

  • excellent playing, definitely did this song justice.

  • dude your like the best drummer on youtube...you and marlowe dk should do a collab yall would KILLLLLL SHIITTTT!!! lol keep on groovin

  • I'm glad to see that you interpreted the piece using your own style! Good stuff. Btw, where did you get the back tracking?

  • Simply amazing! This is a difficult tune to play! 5 stars.

  • So fine !

New and Harrison-like in the same time ;)

  • Smoooooth

  • woow good work!! thanks for the video

  • I don't really know what to say to be honest.

But that was fantastic, you did a perfect job, keep up the good work bro :)

  • Gavin Harrison is a genius for composing this song.

Fran has a different style of course, which he should , and damn its a great interpretation!

    5 BIG RED STARS***** :D

  • 19/16 (or 19/8) is the coolest time signature, I think. 19 is a prime number and it is not very close to "uncool" time signatures such as 16 or 24 (24/8=3).

  • Reeeally good, man!

    5 stars (:

  • beautiful sounding drums and superb playing : 5 stars

  • I love this melody in this tune. Great music, and great playing btw.

    Best wishes musically. :)

  • Fantastic playing bro!

    :D

  • fantastic!!

  • No just listen to the melodies.... Even Harrison doesn't count odd times when he is play, he said so himself.

  • Great drummer....

  • Hey can you sent me this track? I love it! Nice drumming! You're a really good drummer! And your preferences are the best! Mapex4 Ever!

    Cumps.

    Pedro

  • bravo tecnica distinta

da un batterista come te che adora gavin harrison!!!!!!!!

  • nice playing :)

btw the song and many others are on Rhythmic Horizons DVD ;)

  • Superb playing. A lovely song. Gavin would be proud. Keep it up.

  • you have an absolutely amazing feel man. i enjoy every video of your's, amazing man.

  • You did a great job as far as I am concerned. How did you get the music with the drum part cut out? Can I find that anywhere? I would like to try this with my band.

  • It's a complete reproduction, it sounds. I would assume his band (if he's got one; I know nothing about him) covered the whole song.

  • I have to ask you this, Fran: Are you counting 7-7-5 or are you just playing by ear ? sounds great anyway !

  • Counting 7-7-5....FOR SURE......... I NEVER just "play by ear". Always aware of the time and everything that goes along with that which includes the time signature...

  • well to play this one by ear, you would have to listen to it 50,000 times. I certainly count when i play this. ha

  • But with the Time, I tend to get a "feel" for the Time-Signature...even the odd ones. The longer I play a Song, the more "ear" I can include and make music instead of mathematics! :-) Youre right though! Before playing such a Song by Ear, you have to get comfortable with the grooves by counting! Music comes after that!!! :-) ...Nice playing by the Way!

  • @funky2714 I did never count, till I tried this song... It's just impossible to play on feeling... Even when you think you got that melody in your head. But with the strange signature part from procupine tree's halo I kill myself with counting... So I don't... :P

  • @xanadu4463 Well then I guess I'm weird, because I don't feel the need to count odd time. I always sing a song's melody to help me play the odd meters. I find it much easier on the brain than counting, plus it helps you feel the song, rather than thinking of it like a mathematical equation. But, that's just my two cents

  • @OfficialChannelOfHi When you have the luxury of learning a songs melody or knowing the melody because you wrote it, then that method can work for you. In a studio situation, or covering a gig, people will not wait around for you to learn the melody. You have a chart. You hear the tune once MAYBE twice and you are off. COUNTING IS ESSENTIAL. Drummers that have never made it a practice to count will write it off by saying its better to feel the song than count it. I subscribe to doing both.

  • Wow, you did great on this song. Keep it up!

  • wow, i have to take this clip and put it on my ipod now...you rule.

  • Great job Fran.

Where can I get the music without drums?

  • What were the various time signatures? I recognized 4/4 and 7/4. There must have been more?

  • 19 breaks down for this tune as 7-7-5. There is only one bar of 4/4 near the end of the tune which immediately goes to 3 bars of 3/8.

  • wow :O good playing and you added lots of your own to it. grat!

  • you and my friend mentor has very similar style of playing, the accents. he plays traditional and owns a mapex too. zildjians too? K ride? K hit hats?

  • holy shit dude that was nuts. wicked playing as always.

  • 19 Days - 19/8

great job of keeping the odd beat!
