i wish there were kookaburas in michigan, all we have are those stupid morning doves, black birds, and robins that dont do anything but hop around my yard, eat worms, and fly away.
i love kookaburras, im a bird keeper at a zoo and they are my favorites. australia does have all the awesome birds thats for sure. and i love watching brolgas dance it makes me wanna start jumping around too (and i have, im suprised its not on youtube) hahaha
I'm from Kansas, US, but think about. North America has lots of animals that don't live in Australia, true. But you can find many of them or close relatives of them on other continents like Europe and Africa. But Australia and it's surrounding isalnds have animals found nowhere else, like egg-laying mamals, ground-dwelling parrots, 6-foot earthworms, and kangaroos!
@megadork456 - I get what you mean. I still get excited whenever I see our wildlife outside of a zoo. I'd love to go down to Victoria to see (not really see, but I've been told it's creepy to watch the ground move) giant worms. Never have - but would love to see - a ground parrot, you'd have more luck seing New Zealands Kakapo (flightless ground parrot).
Despite most Aussies rarely if ever seing these animals in the wild, they're normal to us. BTW you guys have a native marsupial.
@DrDevil32 I think they call it that because if something embarrassing happens to you and some human jackasses would laugh at you, and a kookaburra laughs with them, it's as if the kookaburra is a JACKASS himself/herself.

Better a kookaburra than a funnel web spider.
