@crizzy71 I strongly disagree. Just about anything Marvin is an unparaleled vocal display, but this is not his best. I think that most impressive song is "Everybody Needs Love". If you haven't heard it, check ti out.
@miss09lauren; I was born during WWII - "old song" is a relative term. This didn't even get popular until a overhyped movie (THE BIG CHILL) used it. It's a great song - I love it, just like I do SING,SING,SING (Benny Goodman) & WINDMILLS OF THE MIND (Dusty Springfield) - it fits the "standards" format - it'll be in use 50 yrs from now. You've got a good start - expand your listening to 1930s, 1940s, 1950s; hey, find & listen to Peggy Lee's FEVER - it's magic!
@hackberryflat I was born in 1987, and this song absolutely knocks my socks off. I'm rather envious of people like you! The classics will abide, I'm sure. It's wonderful that songs like this resonate through time - even scratchy old blues recordings from the 20s and 30s can project themselves across the years and are just as beautiful as the moment they were recorded. It's a shame I wasn't around to see it happen, but I feel blessed to have all this wonderful music at my fingertips.
This is not the original version. 1st recorded by Smokey Robinson & the Miracles in 66 (not released). 1st released in 67 by Gladys Knight & the Pips (no. 1 on the R&B chart). Gayes version appeared on his 68 album & its popularity convinced Motown to release it as a single. It outsold all other versions & became the best known version b/c it crossed over onto the top 40 pop charts. Thus, its a toss up whether the 1st recorded version or the 1st released version is the original version.
Starting coménts, I would like to thank you Luza & Vita, who toghether are awful deejays, but also they make me laughing!!
Miss you melones!! Tomaros 2 Cuervo por mí. Me cago en Madriles. No, lo que tengo que hacer es buscarme ese rinconín mío...y reventarlo a palmas....digamos pa empezar a rromper con el calor.
