  • You don't hear this song enough anymore. Great job yall

  • Speaking as a musician and re-enactor, 19th centruy folk doesn't get any better then this. I have seen these guys many times. They always present a great show. They are musical historians as well. Much of their music is performed form the original scores, such is the case with DIxie! They are all first rate musicians. Buy their cd's on Amazon, I'm sure they would appreciate it. You will also get an education in 19 centruy culture, both north and south! Long live Jeff Davis !

  • @HOMEGA10 merci beaucoup!

  • Geez ...... these guys are really amazing !! Are they profs or just amateurs in reenactments ?

  • great vid. thanks good job. I would love to hear it live!!

  • Now .. getting back to THIS subject posting .. putting aside all these somewhat asanine political debates by the individuals concerned below .. this clip is very good !! This band is quite unique in its genre, and contains musicians of immense talent & enthusiasm. Great work.

  • Greg Hernandez gets around doesn't he ?

  • Slavery was not the primary issue of the Civil War it was only the instrument used as an excuse to seperate. The South beleived in the idea of the compact threory of government. It thought that it had a right to leave, they also threathened to succeed during the Nullification Crisis of 1826. That had nothing to do with Slavery.

  • Human rights, that is the idea that all races had the right to an equal portion of political and economic privlige was embraced by a small minority of abolishionists. The majority of Americans North and South did not think that people of color had the same capacity of white people to rule, be educated etc...But slavery was the central issue that ultimately led to secesion and Civil War .If you don't believe it you need to review your histroy again.

  • Interestingly, "Dixie's Land" was originally a Northern dance hall tune adopted by the South. It was one of Abraham Lincoln's favorite tunes. Both the North and South borrowed tunes from one another.

  • Google south caroline secession declaration.... read it..... then get back to me

  • He is to be entrusted with the administration of the common government, because he has declared that that "government cannot endure permanently half slave, half free," and that the public mind must rest in the belief that slavery is in the course of ultimate extinction.

  • A geographical line has been drawn across the Union, and all the states north of that line have united in the election of a man to the high office of President of the United States, whose opinions and purposes are hostile to slavery.

  • I read the info section on the side, and just wanted to say that the Civil War was not about slavery, though most un-educated people think it is. The people who live, and have letters, (ect) from family members that were in the war and fought for the south know this.

The north gets to write the textbooks therefor they can spin the war anyway they want thats why this generation thinks its all about slavery.

  • The CW was initially fought over the rights of South. States to secede from The Union; before and during the Civil War there were strongly conflicting views between some Northern & Southern states as to whether it was just to own another human being & force them to do unpaid labor. Many Southern historians (i.e. Shelby Foote)-not just Northerners have written history books on the Civil War and agree that the freedom/emancipation of slaves in these United States was one of the central issues.

  • Yes, the south had slaves, so did the north, why would the south beat the slaves? Yes, there were some people on both sides that beat and mistreated the slaves, but not all of them have. The books make it seem like only the south treated slaves badly.

  • Rebel chick.... go live in your delusions.

IF you want to know the facts, read the sucession proclaimations of the Southern States.

Slavery WAS the issue. The only issue.

Go hide behind your racist flag.

  • You wanna see delusional, go down south, go to reeanactments, talk to the people read letters that were handed down from the people that were actually in the war. Dont hide behind those textbooks that have so called facts in them. Slavery was not the only issue. Dont fool yourself.

  • @RebelChick9500 Slavery, throughout history, no matter where it has existed in the world is evil, unjust and abusive. It degregates the rights of all human beings to live in dignity and freedom. There is absolutely no excuse for it.

  • @louvregroove I never said it was right. I think its horrible and cruel and wrong. I said that the civil war was not fought over slavery.

  • Thanks for the clarification re: your views on slavery. However, as the quote from mmmm66 shows, South Carolina for example wanted to secede from the Union as they viewed Lincoln as a threat "whose opinions and purposes are hostile to slavery". Southern plantation owners profitted greatly by the 'free' slave labor, and they did not want Lincoln or the North to oppose slavery as it threatened thier income/wealth/profits, so in my opinion, the CW was in large part fought over the issue of slavery.

  • Yes, that is somewhat true. But the southerners were being taxed too high and the main thing that gave the north money was cotton, which the south had a lot of. So the North taxed the south highly on cotton, and the south didnt want that so they said lower the taxes or we're leaving. Slavery was a little part in this, not the main part. There were many African Americans that fought in the war for the south, not because they were slaves, not because they were threatened, but because they wanted 2

  • @louvregroove The south needed slaves for their economy. The north said: We don't need slaves! So we are going to forbidden slavery

The south answered: But we need slaves

North: Sorry, but we are powerfuller than you

    etc etc

    But, enough of that

    Those guys are great!

    Look away! look away, dixieland!

  • @ViccardXViccc What do you think the slaves were saying?

  • @louvregroove well, the slaves afcorse, wanted to be free. But there were free blacks in the south who defend their country. Stonewall had a free black cook

  • @ViccardXViccc @ViccardXViccc My opinion is the following: The south didn't 'need' slaves, but many Southern plantation owners, mostly the cotton farmers who saw massive increases of their cotton crops due to the invention of the Cotton Gin-saw that huge financial profits could be made by making slaves work without paying them.

  • @louvregroove Well, if they DID pay them, there wouldn't be any profit

But, most americans, north and south, saw the blacks as non-worthy people. Even lincoln did.

And I'm not saying slavery was good(it's a terrible thing)

  • Ah this is brilliant, I love the spirit they have, so so awesome!
