  • Yes, lots of backup. It's obvious he was a good soloist, but I' m equally impressed with his backup/shared solos and thinks he is the best I've seen. Singing with him made the rest have to step up their game/

  • This is a JAM back in the day i was young and innocent

  • This was better than the remastered version.

  • Most of the guys in my neighborhood wanted to be Eddie. The women seemed to swoon as soon as he opened his mouth. LOL. Thanks for posting!

  • My older brothers always played this song. I remember it so clearly i was in the 4 grade

  • which one of their albums was this song recorded on?

  • @alexalot23 i wish it would rain

  • AWESOME !

  • i love this song. this is the good r&b that should've been a way bigger hit than it was as opposed the popish My Girl and Get Ready etc...

  • what I think is so unique about Eddie's falsetto is not just he hits high notes for a man, but his voice never loses integrity and one of the reasons he's probably able to pull it off is that his natural tenor is amazingly beautiful. his falsetto also never overwhelms the background singing, but it's still a part of the unit. much falsetto singing can sometimes end up sounding like clanging cymbals after a while.

  • @jejimypr You are righ. You must be a singer just like me. Eddie's voice remains consistent in quality, texture, and timbre throughout all of his songs. When he blends his head voice, and falsetto, the transition is beautiful. Listen to his work on the 'Mellow Mood' album, particularly 'With These Hands'. If you'll also notice, in his younger days prior to David Ruffin, his voice had a fuller, louder quality about it, and matured into a sweet, complete instrument during their classic period.

  • Don't you know what harmony is?

They sing together on "Christ the Savior is Born" also.

Like I said Eddie Kendricks is the lead singer on Silent Night and Rudolph The Red Nose Reindeer

  • You know, now that I think about it, me and MotownMaster are wrong and you are right. I quess I didn't consider their holiday songs for serious consideration. I always look at XMas albums as "holiday fluff" But, if the people buy enough of them to make it a hit, then I quess it counts. PEACE,.

  • Well said

    PEACE

  • To the fans out there listen to the Tempts albums so you can hear the leads of Eddie Kendricks especially Gonna Keep On Trying Til I Win Your Love another great ballad sung by The incomparable Temptations

  • There's no doubt that you are more than just a casual Temps fan. And I am particularly impressed that you are familiar with Temptation recordings other than their hits. Thank you for the list of songs featuring Dennis (before Cloud 9). I almost fogot "The Temps Join The Sups" and "TCB" were recorded before Cloud 9. However. as it refers to Eddie; I was speaking of songs in which Eddie was the ONLY voice on lead (not the one's where he shared lead). MotownMaster was right about that one.

  • If we're going to get technical then Eddie sang lead by himself on

Rudolph The Red Nose Reindeer which went # 3 Pop and Silent Night which went # 7 Pop

  • If you're gonna get technical about it, Paul starts Rudolph by naming the reindeer, and on Silent Night Dennis sings parts. Listen and you'll hear him singing..."sleep in heavenly peace" This is not an argument, "right?" Just check it out. You'll see. PEACE.

  • Thats just the intro, 4 Tempts sing like 5 words each.Paul isnt the lead singer on that song. Eddie Kendricks is and Melvin comes in like he did on Get Ready

If you listen to Old Man River, 4 Tempts sing like 5 words each on the intro, but Melvin Franklin is the lead singer on that song.

As for the Silent Night song "Sleep In Heavenly Peace", that is harmony you genius, Paul, Dennis, Otis and Melvin sing that part of the song in unison. It is called harmony.LOL

  • This Guy's in Love with You --- 9/8

    The Impossible Dream --- 9/10

    Medley Intro --- 9/16

    I Gotta Find a Way --- 9/16

    Dinah --- 9/17

  • Here are the remaining four songs

    Sweet Inspiration --- 8/30

    I Second that Emotion --- 9/6

    Then --- 9/6

    Amen --- 9/6

  • Everyone was on lead when Dennis joined. Everyone's voice was being heard. They shared leads. To say that Please Return Your Love To Me was Eddie's last hit on a lead before Just My Imagination is incorrect. I'm Gonna Make You Love Me is The Temptations song, Eddie led on Rudolph The Red Nose Reindeer and Silent Night and he shared lead on all those Psychedelic songs

  • though he's singing of a girl, the song is quite melancholy with David leaving at this time. if David had as difficult time leaving as reported, I can hear him saying these same words. so sad.

  • Just thought I would share this. The Tempts recorded 17 songs with Dennis before they recorded Cloud 9.

  • What were the 17 songs before Cloud 9

  • A Place in the Sun --- 7/29

You Gave Me Something (And Everything's Alright) --- 7/29

    Ain't No Mountain High Enough --- 7/31

    My Guy/My Girl --- 8/1

    I 'm Gonna Make You Love Me --- 8/13

    Funky Broadway --- 8/16

    Try It Baby --- 8/27

    I'll Try Something New --- 8/29

  • Great post,you made a mistake.Eddie lead on I'm Gonna Make You Love Me-#1 cashbox R&B,#2 R&B,#2 POP

    I'll Try Something New #8R&B #25Pop

    SIlent Night #3 POP

Rudolph The Red Nose Reindeer #7Pop

then he lead on Just My Imagination

But remember Eddie shared leads with Dennis,Paul,Melvin and occasionally Otis. They all had verses to sing on CLoud Nine,Psychedelic Shack,I Cant Get Next To You,Ball of COnfusion.DOnt forget Eddie leads off on Ball of Confusion. When Dennis joined they all sang lead

  • He did not make a mistake. This was Eddie'e last Solid lead on a hit before "Just My Imagination." Diana Ross shared lead on both "I'm Gonna Make You Love Me," and "I'll Try Something New." Paul Williams shared lead on Rudolph The Red Nose Reindeer

  • I'm not going to argue with you. Eddie Kendricks led on I'm Gonna Make You Love Me. The Tempts have performed I'm Gonna Make You Love Me on live television without the Supremes. Melvin was on I'll Try Something New also. Paul,Dennis, Eddie, Otis sing at the beginning of Rudolph, but that song is led by Eddie Kendricks. Eddie Kendricks was lead on Silent Night which hit # 7 on the Pop charts.

  • You are such a stickler for DETAILS, I love that...But you can ease up a bit, everyone here seems to be fantastic Tempts fans!!...Maybe not as much as you, but true fans...

  • I'm not being hard on anybody, just stating facts

  • Nobody's dead because of the information leaving out the Christmas music...more and more you're starting to sound like someone with a lot of time on his hands and a penchant for finding other people wrong. Pity...fantastic information used to punish someone...

  • Mind your business.Actually you sound like someone with alot of time on their hands, you're jumping into a conversation that is over. There is nothing wrong with correcting people. I am punishing no one. Saying that he sang lead on 3 hits is stating a fact. i wasnt rude or disrespectful. If I can correct someone I will. if someone said the Tempts sang Baby I Need Your Loving, should I not say nothing? You sound ignorant. Like i said just mind your business

  • You are right, of course...

  • I'm always right, dont sweat it, dont be mad, its just the way it is.

  • If you really think that, then that is a sign of how little you truly know...ciao...

  • I'm joking you genius. Of course I'm not always right, but on this particular topic I am. Just shut up about it already

  • Shut up

  • you are dead right eddie had this pure baby boy voice that was hot.

  • What many people don't know is that Pleas Return Your Love to Me only had 4 Tempts on it! Otis, Melvin, Eddie, and Paul! David wasn't on the single! (Go to bbbcorbitt interview with Otis Williams and he talks about that! Interesting!

  • David is on this song, its the b-side he's not on, according to Melvin, "How Can I Forget" is just him, Otis Paul and Eddie

  • WHat about Hey Girl,I heard that only had 4 Tempts also.

  • The song Called, it's Summer on the Solid Rock album there was only four tempts, Dennis, Otis, Melvin, and Richard, Eddie was out and they recorded this without a tenor, then came Damon Harris, and he's on all the other songs on that album.

  • Best of 1968. In Vietnam. Had some vietnamese chick trying to sing this song to me in downtown Saigon. She did a damm good job. Keep my sprit up until i return to the world. All the brothers Kenneth Weeks, Andrews Scott, My my Nathanial Jones from New Orleans. This song got us through

  • Thanks, that comment alone make just made my day! i love comments like that

  • please forgive me. i tried to give you a plus +1, but i accidently took 1 away. i don't know how to change that. i'd give you a plus ++++5 if i could.

much respect to you and your experiences. thatnk you for sharing that.

  • I guess this song was taken from the LP "I Wish It Would Rain", it was their last album with David Ruffin as a member of the group before he went solo. "Cloud Nine" was the next album to follow and it was the first LP to feature Dennis Edwards of the Contours as lead singer.

  • I have the same exact copy with an "Arrowhead" design, not the cursive logo. Your copy is rare.

  • Yeah, this brings back memories. The Temps were BAD!!!! in there day!!!! I know!!!!!

  • i love Eddie's solo song "Skipping Work" that song is BAD ASS! and he is bad ass on "Dream Come True"

  • The unique, clear and emotive tenor of Eddie Kendricks kicks ass here, on You're My Everything and Just My Imagination. Have you heard him just before the fade on Born To Love You? Simply genius.

  • I beleive this record was released around the summer of 1968, a few months before cloud nine was released.

As for the cursive label. I believe that the cursive gordy label was switched over in late 1966, but manyof the factories were using up their supplies of that label well into 1968.

  • Is this the last released single on the Gordy "Cursive" logo and when, on what date in 1968 was it released?

  • never saw this record with this label... Awesome!

  • OH YEAH!!!!!

    JAM!

  • MotownMaster...you are a godsend, thanks for sharing. This is amazing stuff :)

  • I remember this song. Its one of my favorites

  • They don't make 'em like this anymore! A CLASSIC!!!
