I'm in NJROTC and on drill team. A marine stays with us after school and helps us with our drill and PT. One thing I've learned is you mental barrier is a lot weaker than your physical barrier. He's had us do things that I swore I'd never finish but I always do.
Dosen't look to hard.As long as you're in great shape you'd be fine allways run everyday and workout it will be easy! Well not when you're getting yelled by DI's it probabley wont :P
When you ask an airman what he does, he will respond, "I'm in the Air Force." When you ask a sailor what she does, she'll respond, "I'm in the Navy." If you ask a Marine what he does, he'll say "I am a Marine."
It's definitely doable... British Royal Marine training sounds like hell compared to this... 9 mile speed march in full kit, assault course and a 30 miler up one of the worst areas in England in full kit... The pass rate is so low I never even imagine wanting to try it.
At TBS they will run the O-course (basically sprint under 2-mninutes) then gear up and run the Endurance Course--a fairly rugged trail run with intermittent obstacles. I believe that is 5 miles or so.
People gotta keep in mind, those "requirements" are exactly that. That is the BEAR MINIMUM that you can get to PASS. The marines going through officer Candidacy school are NOT getting 8 pullups at a time, they are getting far more. Many pass the 3 mile run in under the 20 minute mark, and get over 180 crunches. Sure, a lot of you could pass the PT, and good on you for being ready to serve in the corp, but don't act like you are BETTER than them because you can meet the standards.
i tested yesterday at 32 chin ups and 28 pullups dead hang 153 crunches in 2minutes and a 17 43 3mile ooorah and im only 16 not enlisting for a few more months
i am from the netherlands and the marines here are way harder the training is mental as wel physical more heavy this is the standerd requirments for the army in my country
@eetanderndyn That is the minimum to pass (at least for OCS) ...also, they do not run on a track. There usually is a terrain routed for the 3 mile run portion of the PFT.
...and yes, I agree that 8 min miles are comfortable. Hell, after my knee surgery and I was able to run again, I was the last to leave the starting line and would lightly 'jog' and still manage to come in around the 22 min mark! If you can't do that... well, enough said.
honestly i think the usmc has to raise the perfect score on the pft and raise the standards, 20 pullups is easily achieved and so is 100 crunches, but the 3mile should stay the same plus the minimum for joining for males should be 10 pullups
@86NapoleonDynamite no, they put you in conditioning, a different part of the base and you train until your able to do basics then they put you back in circulation with other recruits. You dont get kicked out if your outta shape.
the UK Marines has a much higher level of entry 3 miles in 24 what we have to do that just to get 3 miles in 21 minutes and that's just to get an interview!
I think I would be very interested in you making a video of you doing 100 crunchs in 1 minute, 20 pull ups, and a forget 14 miles.. I want to see your 3 mile run, timed.
@Wrangler7559 Lol, you make it seem like it's some great feat. To the average joe, sure it'll be intense. But, for a person who's already in shape and does endurance training daily, it would be nothing.
@lizards220 You're tiny right now. When you grow, it'll be harder. If you're tall, you have your body dragging down. If you're ripped, you have to lift all those muscles you're not using, which is why ripped guys rarely do 20 pull ups. Boot camp is more than that just physical fitness though, it's going to break you mentally, or at least that's what I've been told. I'm joining and have done PT with some of these guys, not easy stuff. BTW 100 in 1 minute? You must not be doin' em right.
Thanks for the info. I am intrested in boot camp even at my age (11) i can do a everything as in 80 crunches in two minutes. im used to doing 100 in 1 minute i can do atleast 20 pullups and i can run a half marathon so no i have an idea on what boot camp takes.
@lizards220 You do realize that 100 crunches in a minute can break your back.. your 11 you can not run half a marathon that's 14 miles. Keep being charismatic, but keep it off the internet.
@lizards220 i mite be the first person thats with you there i can do a mile in 4 min i can do 52 pull up i can do 64 push ups in a minute i can lift 68 pounds and i can pull my dads car (which isnt that hard) and im 13 but im looking more at the airforce or army
@lizards220 Lmao you caqn do 100 crunches, even if you can you weigh like 80 pounds, and that doesn't mean shit. and no you can't run 13 miles. For the pullups, you probably can do 20, but don't lock your arms afterwards. They consider that cheating and don't count it.
Ahh i want to join badly now...
