Now We are hearing from a real Dead Head -Saw the dead 1970 New York Dec5 Felt Form with PigPen The man !
They had that Body language, when your their you know you getting something Powerfull Jerry & phil at the top of their game! Have a Greatdul God Dame Day.......The Real 6 Bill,Micky,Phil, Bobby, Jerry, PigPen
The Dead's body language changes when they really try to put on a show. This is one example. Another is the Playboy after dark performance. This is a great vid but the overall performance is not so good. They also believe this stating that the piano was out of tune and Billy was playing with a broken hand. I will still buy the album however.
The arm was mentioned but what about the fact that half the PA system was faced at the base or the pyrimad in hopes to blast "outer space" with music and contact "other life"
@JBGlobal1120 You ought to have picked another performance to make your "joke." Donna was consistently in tune on "Deal"--proven by her performances heard on archive.org as well as here.
thank you for the link. just want to show my friend that footage. he and i read "the giza power plant" and plan on going to egypt soon. no one will ever be able to climb the pyramid or play a concert in front of it again, especially after 911. i think they are even building a huge wall around them.
@MARIOLOPEZ26 If you watch the Bertha video frmo the same show you can see Bill sitting on a chair at the side of the stage from 2.37 to 2.47. He had a broken foot so I doubt he was drumming!
@Turgorful I was just going to comment on that. Billy (God bless him he never missed one show) broke his left arm for these shows. I'm a drummer and you can definitely feel/hear the difference during these shows. At least it was the left/snare side so he could still ride the cymbals and do 8th note type fills on the toms. Mickey also obviously had to compensate and play a little more actual kit playing and less tom flourishes and the like.
Wasn't even alive during this, but imagine flying over there to catch the Dead, wow! Without the Dead todays music wouldn't be the same especially acts like Phish, Cheese. and the jam band scene as a whole! Forever DEAD!
@Mysterytrain420 Yes that odd 1978 stage positioning. Always seems weird. I kind of always liked Jerry on stage right in front of Billy, pre-1982. Phil back then would kind of float back in front of BIlly and Mickey and really lock in with the drums. As the years went on and they got more popular and older they lost a lot of the interaction onstage they used to have. Jerry would be off on stage left and Phil would be off on stage right, Bobby would be in the middle doing his 80s Bobby show.
@TheScrotumTickler Yes really a bit disturbing in a way looking back now. It was always cheezy but looking at clips/photos now of that pink strat with the Daisy Dukes......
This is without a shadow of a doubt one of if not thee best deal's i have ever had the pleasure of seeing. It was well worth the trip to cairo to witness these shows.Everybody was waiting for these amazing setlists but to be perfectly honest that kind of setlist was not needed.Just listen to the energy that was on stage these 3 nights, and a complete lunar eclipse was the icing on the cake. What more could one ask for 3 nites, pyramids as the backdrop, the band in great spirits.ENOUGH SAID.peace
@lionelalonsofa22 Check out the cd/dvd combo, Rocking the Cradle: Egypt 1978. Has a lot of great footage and cd's of the entire show. Worth every penny :)
ok i guess this week i m into posting the best dead vids i find on youtube-Egypt 1978 in front of the sphinx-legendary-is this the most fun rock song u have ever heard or what? Don't you let that Dealll go downnnnnn!!!!
OH FUCK YES. THIS IS A WONDERFUL DEAL. God, Jerry is ON POINT with that lead... and that time in its third go-round when Phil takes the melody for a second... wow. This rocks my socks so hard.
I was at this show ( College Graduation Present) don't remember Jerry's pigtails. Nor much of the music, but have photo's to cherish forever..............
