Yes, I've been certified and understand Zumba, I was not referring to this vid, If you read my comment correctly I stated that I took your class once and was not 'blasting' you on this video or anywhere. However, since you brought up your cueing in THIS video: You did know they were filming you that day, correct? I stated that instructors should teach as if being evaluated. No doubt a candid camera would show exactly how instructors conduct themselves professionally.
if I liked the class or not. We must also remember that just because there is a 'craze' in the industry doesn't mean that we must ensue. As I stated , combined knowledge is better than limited. I have danced pro Latin, I have also worked with the military fitness program at headquarters level and hope that my experience has allowed me the right of my opinion on something as simple as class starting on time, clear cueing, proper stretching and weather or not I liked how class was given.
since you didn't give me the opportunity to introduce myself to you or you to me. I would hope that my length in the fitness industry and knowledge would have some bearing on my comment. I must have come across in the negative and was limited by the 500 letter limit and should have posted more times to get my point across. Let me also say that you know as well as I do that you only get one chance during certification on a practical exam. And so my ONE time attendance was enough to decide
that you have a variety of participants in your classes, younger, older, perhaps someone with a recovering injury and so fourth and give options as you would in any class. I waited for the class to start that day for twenty minutes, the previous class had vacated the group exercise room on time. Perhaps I caught you on a bad day? It happens. Please take my critique in stride and utilize for improvement. By the way, an injury forced me into retirement, but of course you couldn't have known that
Group exercise safety guidelines should still be taken under consideration. I'm sure you have utilized your knowledge of dance, cheerleading and even personal training within your classes. Same goes when teaching, regardless of what style class you are instructing. Yes, I know what reggaeton is, my experience in dance is Latin! I'm not bad mouthing you or anyone, I thought perhaps you would consider......
I had a lot of feed back on my comment. Let me say that I'm not surprise that defense was your stance. With my experience fun in classes is great, but you must remember that you are leading a group of people and without a microphone and a full class, cues are drowned by music and blocked by the crowd. It is still "group exercise" and safety is first and foremost over "fun" and having a "party"! Class should never start late regardless of personal or otherwise, my clients time was priority.
I took Crissy's class ONCE. First, the class started close to 20 minutes late! No low impact options where offered, absolutely no cue was given. Also, very minimal Latin, it mostly seemed like a hip hop class. Cool down was brief; hamstrings were stretched for a whopping 2 seconds. My qualification to critique? Retired 20 years in the Fitness Industry, Examiner for AFAA, ACE Certification, Former Dancer. Directed at several gym's. Instructors should teach as if they are being evaluated!
@Samie90100 - I respect your opinion of Crissy's class but I disagree 100% she is very attentive to her class and if you know anything about Zumba the instructor leads with her hips and feet not her mouth. If you are a decent dancer you can catch on quick. Class runs late maybe 2-3 mins due to her having twins to take care of, so be understanding but most of the time she is on point. You may not understand her style of Zumba is a lot of hip hop latin based. Pit Bull is in every class.
@Samie90100 -I must respond to your negative comments.- "absolutely no cue was given"? Did you watch this very video in which you are blasting me on? Plenty of cues; notice how the entire class is following along? I apologize if class started late; my classes follow behind others most days of the week; so yes if they run behind so do we. "Minimal Latin" ( I am just using this video as reference) but most of these songs here are direct music & choreography from Zumba.
@Samie90100 Are you a licensed Zumba Instructor? If you were; you would know that we have freedom to choose our own music an choreography. We are only required to use 70% latin in our classes. If you are referring to any "hip-hop" type of songs; those actually are still latin; it's reggaeton. You will find reggaeton in any zumba class. Pitbull is a big part of Zumba. Low Impact Options? I give the same instructions at the beginning of class which are about impact and fitness level.
@Samie90100 I apologize if you did not hear my instruction prior to class starting. I, too am a former dancer, fitness competitor, personal trainer; former professional cheerleader- I teach with energy so I can motivate those taking my class to give it back. Zumba is a party...none of us are there to be evaluated. We are there to ENJOY working out. Your "feed back" would have been more than welcomed after you attend my ONE class that day.
@brendabear123 - No that is the normal class, we all go so much the steps come easy after a while. Believe it or not that is about only half the people. Between all her class there, I think it is roughly 100 that go consistently at least once a week. Most of us are 3-4 times a week. Crissy is an amazing instructor. I picked up the dances in about 1-2 weeks. She is always adding a new one in on us though.

@Samie90100 But the one thing you do not do as a fellow instructor is bad mouth another. You always build your girls up not tear them down.
