In the future, The will be using Windows bases system to torture people but due to a programming error in the past, the system suffered the well known system critical error “Kernel Power” and system crash!
@Girlza123 In this movie, Sanctuary represents the concept of Heaven. That is why the symbol ankh (eternal life) is used to represent it. So when he says there is no sanctuary, hear it as "There is no Heaven!" Don't worry, there's no Hell either.
@Hiraghm Uh? To quote Logan, "There is NO sanctuary!"
Here is dialog from earlier in the movie when Jessica wants to move on to find Sanctuary.
Logan: You want there to be one but that doesn't mean...
Jessica: There has to be. I know it exists. It has to!
Logan. No, it doesn't. Not really. It's just so many people want it to exist, so many people who don't want to die. They want it so much that a placed called [Heaven] becomes real. But it doesn't exist! It never existed, just the hope."
@CommissionerBele - Since when did Logan become the know-all and be-all? Throughout the movie he was full of misconceptions, and suddenly he "knows" there's no Sanctuary? Sanctuary is escape from the city. Nobody knew that that is what Sanctuary was, because, as in real life, people place their preconceptions on it.
Fun fact: There was only one moving-hologram made of Logan's head saying an "O" sound. They had Michael York say 6 different things timed to match the mouth movements of the same hologram.
Fun fact: There was only one moving-hologram made of Logan's head saying an "O" sound. They had Michael York say 6 different things timed to match the mouth movements of the same hologram.
@gentblue there are NO inmates at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Only militant islamo facist terrorists who seek to MURDER you and do NOT represent a government, nor country nor any state.
What always cracked me up was that Logan5 set all his fellow city-dwellers free at the end of the movie, whch was intended to be liberating. Of course, they were all utrerly helpless and now in the wilderness--all dead within a week... Thanks, Logan5!!!
@TonyMaximMuscles Did you ever see the TV series? It had Logan and Jessica travelling all over and meeting all these other little pockets of humanity and teaching them valuable lessons like the freaking Enterprise crew, when Logan and Jessica should have been as dumb as a couple of stumps. I doubt if they'd even know what fire was.
@TonyMaximMuscles - Don't you bet on it. Humans are resilient and resourceful when they have to be. When freed from the nanny-state. It'd be rough, but the leftists, I mean the weak and foolish would be weeded out, in the end.
Better to die at 20 with a shot at living to 75 or 80 than a guaranteed life of 30 years...
WOW,..... the femal computervoice in the english Language, is more beautyful as in german version. "Logan Fünf, haben sie die den heiligen Ort gefunden?" ("Logan five, did you find santuary?")....."Alle sind erfrooooooren" ("All frooooooozen").
@Girlza123 In the film "Sanctuary" is a rumor of a place where humans who have escaped the city confine, supposedly live in peace. The Ankh (Ancient Egyptian symbol of Eternal Life), in this film seem to represent support of the "Sanctuary" legend.....
I remember when I was 7 years old. A series of Logans run was on tv for one season. I'm 39 now, but I can't find it on DVD? I recently saw the series on tv and it brought back memories in my childhood.
I remember as a boy in the theater watching this and being blown away and feeling very strange and uncomfortable for several weeks after, when your a kid movies like this can play strange on your subconscious and emotions.
@Allanlegacy43 Maybe you can explain this to me: how come Logan and Jessica were the only 2 people in the dome city with English accents? Did they transfer from a dome in Liverpool?
@seanr456 LOL good one, I'm not too sure but near the end when they meet the old man (Peter Ustinov) he also had an English accent so maybe he was their real parents, ha ha just kidding, but an incredible movie that I always watch when its on tv.
@Allanlegacy43 Me too. I saw that movie when I was 6, and it scared/fascinated me for my entire life. I'm 40 now and I still love it. But they don't seem to play it much on tv; not even on the SciFi channel. I had the DVD once, but I left it in a bar by accident.
Neither sound as if they are from anywhere within 200 miles of Liverpool:
Southern/South West England - but of a very specific, authentic character. Modulated, likely from birth, by expensive education, foreign travel at a young age and a certain incidental ah.."refinement"..of surroundings and social network that often gets associated with the British Middle/Upper Class in those regions...
Agutter's sexy posh tones can still drop a fully grown man at over 200 yards.
@MrHueJazz1 The thing is that the computer won't accept what Logan is telling it. The problem is that the computer controlls everything in the city and when it goes SIGTRAP over the fact that it can't accept what Logan is telling it a malfunction could lead to sub systems failing. He also shot the computer in a few places with his gun, the other guy shot the computer by accident which actually began the serious problems.
The voice of the computer was supplied by the director's secretary. She also played the female runner in Cathedral. I love her voice and would use it again for the remake!
The sound effects are brilliant. My guess- First record Michael York's lines and play them back slower. Multitrack. Gradually add echo to the female voice to show the computer breaking down. Fade in the repeated triplets (sequencer?) heard earlier and bring in chord (string synth?) quietly moving to a crescendo. Finally blow up the computer.
Lifeclocks are a lie! Carousel is a lie! There is no renewal! There is no Sanctuary! Hey, Logan puts that Computer and the Sandmen in their place! I couldn't have said it better myself!
if thats a 23rd century computer, the future must suck, id bet my system would be twice the power of it, cos i tell it to do random shit, and it figures something out, it doesnt short out and catch fire or nuthin lolz
This is the scene that always comes to my mind when thinking about Logan's Run. I think it is the most memorable scene. I hope they remake Logan's Run.
SANCTUARY=HEAVEN Come on how else is goverment/society suppose to deal with overpopulation and limited resources inside a bubble city..Everyone lives an equal 30 years..no one is cheated, and everyone(almost everyone) can't wait to get to the "great things" that await you on other side,it makes goverment job alot easier when people voluntary go..even if it is a huge farce.
The book was soooo much better. They explained the whole 30 years. It was a whole commentary on the "don't trust anyone over 30" thing that was happening in the 60's. The leader of a pollitical movement that took this to an extreme (i.e., legislated death for all above 30) led by example: committed suicide on his 30th birthday.
He was right, there is no sanctuary after you hit 30, as I am now finding out. And I didn't even get to live the world-of-total pleasure-bit beforehand.
Today's Americans,I hope you know, you are not one bit different,as you give up your God-given rights,in the "war on Terror". Long may Oceana reign! FOOLS!
That is my all-time favorite line from any movie or book. Those four words are so powerfull. You cant run, you cant hide because THERE IS NO SANCTUARY!!
It was a utopian society. A kind of paradise imagined by man through technology. A Society so developed that man had been removed from every regard of decision- making and influence to the point that Seeking pleasure for immediate satisfaction became the only worthwhile pursuit. Under it all was this 'antiseptic barbarism' a lie that was believed -made into law -'Renewal'.
I've always loved this movie. It's kind of prescient. The govt. wants to put chip implants in us like the way the people in this movie have crystal implants. the mark of the BEAST! Resist the chip!
A powerful comment. But supposing the day to day running of your life depended on it. 'Getting Tagged' Would you receive it or do you think you could get along without it?
they might have lived in those domes for hundreds of years,we dont know.its almost a garden of eden kind of lifestyle, the only problem is you die when your 30.
we have to be careful with computer technology so it dosent get too advanced,i.e this film,2001 space odyseey, sky net in t-2.i know there only films but you never know what could happen in the future
As if some kind of disaster happened along time before these events .... my question has always been - for the technology you see here (a system that has saved the race to the point its killing the race) How long has this been really going on? heh, the people forgot what the outside was like??? Plus the stuff set up in between - Havnt seen this try to check it out....
Its not the technology thats the evil but the men who put it in place for motives that are questionable, downright evil. Execution at 30 was necessary to limit the population in this world. A lie, turned into a myth which was taken as truth that it was possible to renew, sent people gladly to what was really their death. The lie was used to keep people content, placated even happy. Sound familiar?
A society built on denial and acceptance can't last for long. Nothing can be on opposite ends at the same time. All it takes is for someone, somewhere to ask the wrong question at the right time.
Have you read the book? Gives you a few extras not seen in the film, like their crazy little flyin motorcycle type thingys.
