  • What was wrong with her hip?

  • @KenMacMillan

It's crooked, that's all I know for sure. Never had it X-rayed & don't plan to. She gets around fine on it, so if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

  • do you recommend bare feet for all horses, even working horses like draft horses, or do you ever recommend shoes, and which kinds?

  • @Plum369

About the only time I could see putting shoes on a draft horse would be for logging in the winter.

  • Very nice and calm horse! It really shows that you are a good horseman, horses are born neither good or bad, it's humans that make them behave the way they do, :)

  • Man you got the right horse holy is she sweet!

  • Why do all these mustangs look like domestic quarter horses???

  • @hyperfocus2011

Yeah, she is a sweetheart. They don't all look like QH's depends what area you get them from. The ones from Oregon seem to be a bit larger.

  • Really good vid and super mare, well done all round !

  • I think you´ve got yourself a VERY NICE horse. But has to count the gentle way you handle her.

  • I give back to her what she gives to me.

Without a doubt she is special.

I hope people will donate to your cause & I'll share your videos on facebook.

Things are tough here also. So many horses in need of help.

    Bill

  • Very kind Bill, thanks. Everywhere our angels without voice are suffering - what I do is a drop in the ocean. Thank heavens for people like you who realise that 6 million years of perfection should not be ruined for 2000 years of selfish human intervention

  • my horse doesn't keep her feet up and its a giant pain to pick her front feet out. her back feet? come up and stay up like no problem whatso ever. i've even had a proff. help me but they said she just doesn't like it but really didn't give me any tips on how to make her give her feet. Any tips? you have no idea how much i would love to have her just give me her feet no problem and keep them up

  • Sticky feet, I usually pinch the chestnut on all horses, no result? Keep pinching the chestnut while you tap the front of her fetlock with your boot, start out lightly & keep increasing until she lifts her foot. Repeat until she lifts it with just the pinch of the chestnut. If you want lightness, you must always start out light.

  • oh wow i've never heard that before pinching the chestnut n all. i'll have to try that. thanks so much!!! (:

  • another great tip I learnt a long while ago. When working hinds, if the horse tends to scooch the leg under after lifting it, give a little squeeze/massage to the gaskin (just above the hock) of the opposite leg - works wonders!

  • Her frogs looked really good. Had she been standing in a lot where she could not more before you got her that cause her heal to grow so long?

  • I'm sure some of it was that, plus the way her hip is. I'm sure that the tension on the tendon was making her lift her heel. I wish I had gotten a better shot of that right hind. You wouldn't believe the difference now. Time will tell with the hip. So far it doesn't look much different.

  • wow she's got a nice frog

  • I really like your videos they are very true... I mean allot of vids you see the horse is very calm and lets you do what you please with their leg but in my case I have horses that can be very impatient at times which makes it difficult to work with them. I notice just a little of that here and you stay calm and willing which is nice.

  • Well, you just need to do the opposite of what everyone else does.

Usually when a horse is uncooperative, people try to make them stand still, cross ties or trying to hold them.

When a horse moves, I help them move, but a little faster & farther than they want. Then I just put them where I want & relax.

You do this a few times & see what happens. They'll like you better when you're relaxed.

  • aww she is so sweet. hows she doing?

  • Wonderful, it will be some time before I really know with her hip. I can only hope for the best. She actually gets around just fine & on both leads.

  • These horses are not that hard to gentle.

A little knowledge & horse sence goes a long way.

  • Amazing that you could do this with just five days!

  • Yeah Baby, it's called whispering I think

    LOL
