Wow. Is there any annual event in the lower 48 that compares to the AT? 3-6 months, more than 2,100 measured miles + incidentals. It is among the toughest endurance marathons in the world! By the looks of it, also among the most enjoyable on many levels. What does this say about the Feat of Feet, the 300 or so pairs of feet to make it each year? If this were a scholastic event you would get an A+. The true prize is that all the energy spent, every scent, is converted to SPIRITUAL ENERGY!
there were a lot of ticks and I did end up taking a month of antibiotics when i got back for suspected lyme...but I never got really sick or anything. I have a pageful of tips over on my trailjournal site where I answered a lot of people's questions about planning. It's over at trailjournals . com/lakewood . It is the entry titled Questions/Answers

Fegy, I went GAME in 1996. Thanks for the memories. This was a terrific overview. I recognized just about every spot you showed, and recalled my own moments. Congrats on your truhike. May the mice stay out of your food, may the miles fall away easy, and may your socks always be dry.
this is great!! I'm planning on hiking 'thru' the appalachian trail come this next year.. thank you for sharing these videos. I am from Reno, Nv - i am preparing in all ways, each day for this dream..
Thank you for this. Plan for thru hike 2013 (I'll be 55) and the video keeps me on the goal.

Very nice. It's a shame youtube only allows 10 minute maximums on uploads. I hope you are doing well and enjoy the holidays.
