if you have ever driven the two engines for extended periods you would know the 6.0 is far better than the 7.3 ,you dont know shizz about engines and your 7.3 will break down.you know as much about navistar as you do about the female orgasm.
@82bigmike i have driven both motors and the 6.4l powerstroke and i own the 7.3 with a 6spd manual and ts chip. the 7.3 is most reliable and was the best motor navistar ever built. i know more 7.3 around here with more than 500,000 miles and put to hard work everyday with no problem but the 6.0 that just daily drive bust head gaskets all the time. the 6.0 is powerful bc of the turbo. you dont have to listen to me i'm just stating my point of view and im a powerstroke mechanic
sounds like the guy has a 4 or 5 inch exhaust and took the baffel out of the turbo. Here in iowa city theres a guy that drives a white f350 and thats what he did 7 inch stack straight piped from the turbo and took the sound baffel out of his turbo, i hear that truck from blocks away is so sweet sounding. theres another guy with a duramax that did that to and oh man that duramax is BADASS!
The reason it sounds like it is it has a VGT Turbo. Which stands for variable geometry turbo. There are vanes that direct the exaust on the hot side of the turbo. The faster you go more vaccum is pulled which makes those vanes direct the exaust on the turbine which in the end you get faster spool up and more power and boost And most imortant less Turbo Lag
@Intelpentium54321 They resolved a few of them but the 6.0 is just not built as well as the 7.3. Check out powerstrokehelp's channel. He specializes in powerstroke engines and I learned a lot from his videos. Some things were improvements over the 7.3, but those improvements are just not work the trouble. Watch the series entitled 6.0 vs 7.3(its a 6 video series), I am sure you guys could use the information he posts.
@lyaoyas75 The main down fall of the 6.0 os the EGR system compounded with the TTY head bolts. I drive a 6.0 and I wouldn't trade it for anything. They are so much more powerful than the 7.3 stock to stock. A properly cared for 6.0 can be very reliable. Now that people know how to prevent their issues I think they get a bad rap.
@Hemihappy I will agree the 6.0 do have a bad rap. And I am sure it is understandably why. But by the time you spend the money to "bullet proof" the engine is it really worth all that trouble? To get a 6.0 on in more reliable state it costs thousands of dollars(unless you can do some of the work yourself). The head studs alone are what $500 and that is just cost of parts, labor will KILL the non-mechanic. You are looking at probably $5,000 to get a 6.0 to a more reliable state.
@lyaoyas75 Well I guess it is all in how you look at it. A proper running 6.0 will pull just as well as an early common rail Cummins. For me it is worth the extra cost simply because the Ford Super Duty platform is hands down the best truck on the market. I agree that the 6.0 is not the most reliable engine but it also beats the heck out of all of these new emissions choked contraptions that are in the new trucks.
@Hemihappy Now that we can agree on. The Super Duty is the best overall platform. And if you have the extra cash, you can definitely make the 6.0 a badass engine that will last...
@lyaoyas75 Yes! I bought my Super Duty for the truck and not necessarily the engine. Now that being said I have 91k trouble free miles. If I wanted a trouble free engine I would have bought a Cummins and watch the truck around it fall apart piece by piece lol. I own a Ram too and it is literally disintegrating in every way. And when the time permits my 6.0 is coming out and getting studded, egr delete , bigger injectors and a tune. Then I should be ready to roll!
@lyaoyas75 I know, they say they worked out the problems, but at least from my dad's experience working on ambulances and other city trucks with them, I don't know if I'd trust them too much. The 7.3s are a great engine though, and I've heard really good things about the newest all Ford made diesel.
@compactc9 upgraded egr cooler, delete egr, arp head studs and the 6.0 is good, if you really want to make it bulletproof put in an aftermarket oil cooler and coolant filtration system and the truck is as good as any out there period

It's like the 6.0 breaks down and the 7.3 keeps going. In the beginning lol. Nah, I am kidding. The 6.0 is my favorite diesel.

@mk37mgteboy very little work is needed to maybe the 6.0 as reliable as the 7.3. i love both motors i happen to have a 6.0 though
