@SuperMicklovin Ryan probably didn't want to deal with Franks Bullshit, and felt bad for what he did to the brink of madness. So he wanted it to all end.
@Hellcrysong It's neither. Ryan wanted to prove a point to Jack and bring light to the situation at hand with Atlas. The situation being that Atlas was manipulating him into doing his dirty work (eliminating Ryan) so that he could rise to power, as was his plan all along. By killing Andrew Ryan, Jack epitomized what it is to be controlled and subordinated, eradicating his free will. This is what Andrew hated in American society at the time (gov't control, intervention, and regulation)
@Hellcrysong which is why he created Rapture, to create a society where a man IS entitled to the sweat of his brow, "where the artist would not fear the censor, where the scientist would not be bound by petty morality, where the great would not be constrained by the small!" This is why Ryan chose to die this way, to prove his final point and perish in the name of free market, free will, and individualism.
Can't help but wonder if that last final "OBEY!" was a sort of plea to his son, to try and do what Ryan truely wanted his son to do, control himself, obey Ryan's true want. Though it's probably just my crazy ideas...
@killermod0 Not defending him. But he is a very well respected movie critic and a very bright guy that comes from another media then video games like you and I. So he doesn't understand games like he does with movies. He sees movies as art and games are not "because you can win" bs I say to that. But he did retract his statement a bit for what he said. Takes guts to admit if you regretting saying something and going public about it.
@killermod0 Additional. Great story with this game and it kinda of sucks that the sequel coulden't live up to Rapture. Its hard to live up to such a master piece like Bioshock. Great game sequels are hard to make without proper decisions and mooching off the original instead of using the previous game as a jumping off point to reference Yahtzee.
@LoTTEv1 haha are talking about yahtzee from zero punctuation? but yeah this game was a masterpiece and anything that would follow it would be unnecessary and redundent. If they do make a 3rd one it'll be a big yawn. And the movie better not suck.
Beware there are only a few decent movies like Silent Hill and Prince of Persia that survive the onslaught of shit movies to great games. If they don't have a source that created the game and can have there own influence on the film to be correct with the game's plot then it will end up like a complete mess. I hope it will be good though.
This shocked me more than anything in this game or any game. I was truly amazed at just how deep the lies ran...this was basically the only "immersive" part in the game for me though.
i love it in how in part 2 u find out more bout jack and his true relations to Andrew Ryan if i may have the prevlage to spoil it can u like comment on this dnt want to ruin the game for every1 who hasnt played it
Youve backed him into a corner, and you forced him into his suicide. But the fact remains; hes in control. Hes taking his own life. He never gives you the satisfaction of so much as pulling the trigger on him.
I believe he wanted Jack to kill him because for two reasons. One you have the part where he wants to show that he's under control with the "would you kindly" phrase, and a second is based on how Andrew Ryan wanted to build a city to get away from the parasite. A city where a man can earn the sweat of his brow. Ryan went against his own dreams and decided to pull the market in his direction so he could get money. This made him his worst enemy. Also no beliefs for suicide to be a sin or unallowed
Gman - dude, that was deep. if i could give you 5 stars for explaining it that way, i would. that perspective totally makes sense to me. thanks again!
Not only that... Ryan was a man with a dream... a dream of a paradise for the smart, and artistic could co-exist, in a brotherly utopia..... a dream crashed by a parasite, a drug, and the human idea of corruption and deception, crashing the very core of ryans dreams....
How could a man live watching his paradise become hell itself....
Sorry for my comment coming so late, i was watching HAWP and really wanted to rewatch Ryans death.... xD
@cruzdt at that point in time... Ryan had acheived his dream, to make an underwater utopia... yet only to see it burn to ashes? His life long dream... shown to him personally that it was never meant to be anything more than a disaster.... plus his own son was used against him by Fountaine....
I mean... i would understand if he just didn't want to live with the shame and failure that he's endured.
@Mclovin1484 Andrew Ryan created the underworld to escape humanity. Fontaine couldnt have existed without Ryan's creation. I agree that Ryan was not willfully evil like Fontaine was but the path to hell is created with good intentions.
@TheVisibleWind To a certian extent maybe. But he was all about letting people keep what is theirs and so to the same extent he is a pretty good leader.
Lol it is kind of funny we are talking like he was a real political person in history XD
@Mclovin1484 They were all bad people. Andrew Ryan, Frank Fontaine, Tenenbaum, Suchong, Cohen and finally you, Jack, the son of Andrew Ryan. All were created to show the bad, the greed, and the naivety of man. When power is too much to handle, it consumes the soul. Though, as Jack and Tenenbaum show, our actions are redeemable, although not totally. The only incontrollable variable in the game was the choice of whether or not to save the little sisters.
True but Ryan was arrogant and ultimately doomed himself and the city through his actions although Frank Fontaine is the worse of the two as he simply wanted to rule the world
@Mclovin1484 Not really, they were both soulless dictators. The game clues you in sometimes and says Andrew Ryan tortured people for following religion.
He had the right idea for atheists and communists, but most people that just want to live their life the way they want, and he didn't like that. Not one bit.
Fontain, on the other hand, is a classic case of "Vote for me and I'll do anything you want". He brainwashed the low-class masses and formed a revolution, much like the Soviet Union.
