Let me remind you Bruce's life was a kinda quest : he seached the best way to use the human body during everyday life, and also the best way to quickly and immediately defend yourself in the case of an attack. He quickly realized the martial arts he knew wasn't that useful and were only "show sports". Then he began to train himself with this goal in mind. I'd like to remind that to people who think Bruce was only a bodybuilding fan or stuff like that.
@FrenchLegoBoy Bruce was not really what I consider a bodybuilder. He was fit, not extremely muscular. I don't practise martial arts myself, I don't have the time for it.
learn how to powerclean properly, squat lower, and curl less weight so you can do it correctly. squatting only increases testosterone because they work your legs, which is obviously a very large muscle group, you can achieve these testosterone gains with other leg work out, deadlifts looked fine, just keep your head up when your going down.
@yopoy50 Thanks, this was a year ago and I must agree it wasn't all perfect form. I have learned a lot from people like you, giving me critisism. You are one of the people who actually managed to keep their comment clean. Thanks for that!
@jlvi13 np bro. I'm by no means a professional at ALL, just a 17 year old guy who does a lot of research and lift with knowledgeable people lol. glad your not someone who gets super mad when someone criticizes them.
@yopoy50 I have learned everything the hard way, including by making this video. I have read a lot of information however, so it's not like I just tried something without knowing the theory.
Regard tht last comment, for i was hacked. Me nd my brother are arguing bout genetics nd bodybuilding for i no better, if u eat mire smaller meals u will gain weight ofc.
@Quasar0324 Genetics play a big role also. I personally don't have good genetics for building muscle, so I need to work really hard for each gain. Besides that I'm a short dude, so I will not look as big as someone who is taller.
@jlvi13 how tall r u and how much do you weigh? Yuu have a similar physique to Bruce Lee im not kidding! Just do more deadlifts/bent over rows to widen your back, and work more on your forearms! (indoor rock climbing is fastest way to strong hands and forearms)
@takitezy7 Check out my new videos and you see I have improved quite a lot. The rest of your questions can be found on my channel. Just check out the faq's.
Yup, i agree. Im the same way. Im referring to the hard gainer guy. I eat like a machine, nd dont.gain an ounce of weight. I eat waay more than most ppl. But gain zip. Prlly cause i wrkout..genetics prly. Nd cause of tht, for me i find no neccessity to hve a diet. i eat cakes, nd pies, nd cheese, saturated fats like crazy, nd remain my physique, tall nd lanky ppl (like me) will remain tht, from experience, nd ppl i no, they hve the inability to gain weight
@Quasar0324 You can gain weight, but you will probably have to eat even more, stop doing any unnecessary cardio activities, lie on your butt for most of the day and lift heavy weights for 5-6 hours a week by using a split routine. Each day 1 musclegroup would be a good option. Then you will gain some weight, albeit maybe not as much as someone who is mesomorph. You're mostly ectomorph I think, considering you are tall and thin.
@jlvi13 yh that's what I meant, their physiques are so different. David haye is more muscular. I'm a big fan of training techniques, how athletes train their body. How bruce lee trained etc and was so fast. And in MMA george st pierre is using gymnastics to make his body stronger, have you seen his youtube page? He has some videos of him training. Just type gsp training on search
@jlvi13 yeh if you look at muhammad ali who never used weights and was around 210-215 pounds when he was heavyweight champ, and then look at david haye who was around 210-215 pounds when he was heavyweight champ. Their physiques are so different because Ali never used weights while david haye used a lot of weights in his training.
@skittleszy I think Haye has a more muscular physique than Muhammad had back in the days, but maybe I have googled the wrong pictures. It can also depend on the genes, not everybody developes the same kind of muscles. It takes quite some time to reply to everybody, but I have plenty of free time this year, so why not hehe.
@jlvi13 thank you for your replies. You must be so busy replying to everybodys questions lol. I'll check your martial art videos tonight. I'm from the UK.
@jlvi13 thanks! I do boxing training and I'm looking for a weight routine that I can do. I can't do heavy weights because it will slow me down and my arms become tired easily when throwing punches. I'm 200 pounds and 6ft2. Did you know that muhammad ali never used weights! He had a awesome physique
@jlvi13 hi,I'm new to your videos,I just saw them all today for the first time and I'm very impressed. You are very helpfull so thankyou. I want to ask....which do you prefer....the bruce lee full body workout or do you prefer to concentrate on a body part per day? For example, the bruce lee workout is for the whole body so you would probably complete it 3x a week. Or would you do chest on mday, shoulders on tuesday etc
@skittleszy I prefer to last option. I make my own routines rather than following that of others. My routines now usually consist of 1 muscle group per day, although my newest routine consists of training the bigger muscle groups 2 days a week, but with a lot less sets and exercises.
@c0smicdweller Make sure you check your stature when performing exercises. If you have access to a big mirror you should use one to look in during workouts. What is wrong with my shoulders? I don't really see one arm is higher than the other :) Probably got something to do with bad execution of the exercise. It's been more than 1 year ago since I've made this video.
@citizenlares It was a theory I read, although I'm not sure if I still agree with it. Although working out bigger muscle groups (which is what makes these exercises 'special') will definitely give you better results compared to focussing on your smaller muscle groups. If it really raises testosterone, I can't say for sure as probably not every scientist agrees with the other one. There have been studies showing elevated testosterone levels when performing heavy compound exercises.
@jlvi13 Yeah that what i was suspecting i heard about that to
I was reading the comment below and i cant believe you don't run(because you are in very great shape)
I weigh about 128 pounds and im 5'8-9.. And i never ran because i thought i wound loose weight. but it actually keeps me on track with working out and eating right, Because when i dont, i really feel bad on my runs.. and i noticed it helps allot with abs
Witch brings me to my point that i suspect running raises your hormones
@citizenlares I suspect I sometimes become a millionair, but I got no good reasons for that, nor do I think it will actually happen :P So why do YOU think it raises your hormone level?
I don't run because I first of all hate it, apart from sprinting maybe once in a while. It doesn't work for me and it burns calories I need for building muscle and feeding my brain!
@citizenlares yes... of yourse running raises your hormones...there was a study with soccer player who didn´t go to the gym but they trained 2-3 a week + 1 game!
the opposite of them were those who attend the gym but don´t run or sth. similar...
result: the soccer player have developed far more than the gym´s ...
@Sinan97082 So you honestly dare to say that you can raise hormone levels by doing soccer by just one study? And can you tell me if it's the same for running? Running and soccer is something completely different as soccer requires a lot more different techniques than running. There really have to be way more studies to make something a fact.
@jlvi13 ah thats cool. thanks for answerign my question. I am under the impression that running and other aerobics is quite good for you, but whatever works for you right? bruce ran miles every day. and yeah great job
@MrChrill7 Yes, and I don't run at all and my bodyfat is almost as low as his bodyfat was. So it proves that cardio is not always necessary if you have a proper workout routine and nutrition plan.
@jlvi13 Interesting take on it.. but fitness is not all about bodyfat.. cardio does alot of other things for our body, namely strengthing your legs, heart, and most importantly oxygenating your body. instead of beating around the bush, im just going to give you a link that you and everyone you know should take a look at, its called the buteyko method and it rly is by far the best proven way to improve ones health, fitness, wellbieng, and cellular oxygen levels. plz read website:normalbreathing
@MrChrill7 True, although I don't think everybody needs to improve their oxygen capacity. Of course it will improve your health, but cardio such as running is very damaging on a long run for your knees, feet and lower back. It's about what way you prefer to workout. If you don't like cardio, then don't do it, but just do other things to improve your health like quit smoking and eat less saturated fats. Which will all strenghten heart as well.
@WuTang011 Supplements don't give results, working out does. I'm against every supplement (including whey protein, although it's a good protein source). Almost nobody, including professional athletes don't need supplements. There are some groups of people that need supplements like those who are pregnant, some people with dark skin in a cold country, vegetarians and vegans and people with certain disseases. I'm probably missing a couple, but healthy sports(wo)men won't need supps.
@jlvi13 i agree with this to a point, however i believe i need something, i am what some people refer to as a "hard-gainer" i do not gain weight at all really... i tried whey protein once and it started doing something but, unfortunatly im a procrastinator so i couldnt stick with it, but that was the only thing really....i work out, i get stronger but for some reason the weight stays the same (give or take)...for most ppl there are other methods but i consider myself as an exception
@DakotaWiggles It is proven in many studies that whey protein is not necessary and that you won't grow more with it than you would with a regular good nutrition plan. Which brings me to your problem. You can only be a 'hard gainer' if you don't eat enough. Eat more and you'll grow, unless you have metabolism problems which is very unlikely. Sure, ones metabolism can be faster than the other, but if you eat more the problem is solved. Send me a PM for reviewing your diet if u like.
@jlvi13 i never really had a specific diet, but i DO eat enough, trust me, people are usually amazed at how much someone like me can eat without gaining!!
@DakotaWiggles Yeah, that's what they say about my brother too. He's skinny as hell and he really doesn't eat that much. I can tell, because I know how much he should eat and he doesn't eat that much. It's hard for a lay to tell if he eats enough or not. If you still can't gain weight when you eat enough you have got medical issues, but trust me, you just don't eat enough. If you think you do, add 500 kcal to your diet and you should gain 500 grams a week!
@ThEvOiCeOfReAsOn1100 It indeed might have been strange. It's been a year ago though. If you watch videos, also make sure you know how long ago it's been since it was made. Most people improve a lot throughout their video making. This is not meant as critism, just telling you that there can happen a lot in a year.
Ok so im really worried. I used to be like addicted to working out, but then cross country started, and so i decided to stop for like 5 months. I used to be able to do 102 pushups but now only do 45. Im mad. :( Any tips???
@poopdollar1000 Yeah, build it up slowly again. Don't think about what you could do, but see 45 push ups as good and start that as your starting point to rebuild your strenght endurance. Don't get frustrated cuz you quited. I have been doing judo for 6 years, but when I was 14 I didn't like it and stopped. If I would have continued I would have been on it for 12 years and would already have my blackbelt now. I'm thinking of returning, I will have to accept I have to start over.
@jlvi13 I wanted to do martial arts but my parents wouldn't let me and I'm 15 now with exams and everything in the way so do you know what age I should start or is it too late
@aneeqster5 It's never to late to learn new things, so you are not to late for martial arts. But, you might not get your blackbelt on your 18th birthday if that's your goal. Start when you are less busy with school and feel you're ready. School is more important, so focus on that for a while and that way you will keep your parents happy too. Maybe they will let you when you are older, like 17 or 18.
@MrSham3less What is not good for your back... Most of these exercises are commonly used and are not dangerous. Deadlifts always are kind of risky, but it's one of the safer lower back exercises.
Squat, Bench press, bent over row (which is already a replacement of the pull over), Clean& press and finish with barbell curl. A military press is a shoulder exercise, just like the clean and press. It's difficult to do two of these heavy shoulder exercises in just one routine!
@vezz1986 Pull ups and rows are all you need for your upper back. I don't really get what you want to say though. If you can't fully explain yourself in English, then answer me in Italian. That's easier for me to translate.
@vezz1986 As I mention in the video, I think the good morning exercise is not safe. That is why I replaced it for deadlifts, as that is the number one lower back exercise anyways. Goodmornings are no hyperextions. Just google it and you'll know what they are.
@vezz1986 Lee injured his back by doing Goodmornings. He probably also did deadlifts. Please understand that this is just ONE routine he ever used. If he's like me, he has had over 50 different workout routines over the year. There is not one single routine that will give you endless results. Variation is very important. This routine is nothing special, it's just a very basic routine with most of the main exercises. He also did pull ups, which are not in this weightlifting routine.
@vezz1986 The benefits are that you can workout every bodypart in one routine. The downside is that after lifting a few sets you are tired and can't lift as heavy for the remaining exercises. I've used it for a few weeks, just to get some variety in my own routines. It's good, but not special as I mentioned before.
@vezz1986 Click on 'jlvi13' and you'll get to my channel. Than, have a look at the top right of my channel and you'll see a button with website. Click it and find gaining muscle, in the left option bars. Good luck, let me know if you can't find it.
@vezz1986 You'll need to work out the upper back by doing pull ups and rows seperately though. There is not a decent upper back exercise in this weightlifting routine. I have a martial arts video. Go to my channel again and look through my uploads. I've uploaded it a few weeks ago.
@jlvi13 OK good job! ;) it's better i think! Last question, Bruce lee had another routine program for weight lifting, you know? this one: Lee's Overall Development Routine: Clean and Press: 2 sets of 8-12 reps. Barbell curl: 2 sets of 8-12 reps. Press Behind Neck (Military Press): 2 sets of 8-12 Upright Rowing: 2 sets of 8 -12 Squat: 2 sets of 12-20 reps. Rowing: 2 sets of 8-12 Bench Press: 2 sets of 8-12 Pullover: 2 sets of 8-12 What do you think about this routine? best or worse?
@vezz1986 Worse: press behind the neck is not good. Just do regular military press, upright row is not that effective in general, same for te pull over. Doing a barbell curl as the number two exercise is not logical if you are doing heavier exercises after that. Your biceps should be the last muscle group to work on, apart from the forearm region maybe.
Hey dude, I was wondering if you could answer my question. Deadlifts look like they could by deadly to your lower back. Can these workouts have a negative effect on your back in the long term? Thanks in advance for your answer!
@Thewhiteronin If you perform them badly and if you don't do a good warm up and lift too heavy, yes it can be bad for your back. But, if you perform them with good form and build it up gradually you will benefit from it since it will help you to build stronger back muscles which help avoid injuries. So safety and performing it well is most important. Every exercise can be dangerous and risky on the long term, especially if you do it with bad form. Working out is not a natural proces!
for the clean and presses you clean the bar from the floor, what you are doing are hang clean and presses. on the back squats if you can lift into position it isnt enough weight, you should either get a squat rack or do front squats instead, also you should go all the way down for max muscle recruitment. on the bench press you should get a rack so that you can use more weight and when you go down touch the bar to chest. the good mornings that you are doing look dangerous you should do deadlifts.
@zerordieb87 Lol, what good mornings, there are no good mornings in this video. I only did deadlifts, regular ones, not stiff legged ones. I know the weight was to light for the squats, it was the safest amount I could lift above my head. Now I got a squat rack with which I can perform safe bench presses as well. The clean and press wasn't perfect, but it worked well. Thanks for the comment though, but don't judge someone on just one video in case you did.
@jlvi13 you should check your form on the deadlifts then. its cool that you got a squat rack that will really help. i didnt judge, ive seen your other vids and they your bodyweight stuff is impressive i was just trying to help you get the most out of your workouts.
@zerordieb87 Okay, thanks. That's a good quality, not judging after one video or after one first impression. My first impressions are almost always wrong.
@jlvi13 You are missing one of the key components of how Bruce Lee lifted weights. HE BELIEVED IN LIFTING THEM AS FAST AS POSSIBLE, and not only should you be looking to increase the amount of weight you use as you get stronger, but you should be able to move the weight faster. Everything in "The Art of Expressing the Human Body" is ALL about speed being dependent on strength and its all about doing strength exercises to get FASTER. This a huuuuuuuuuge detail you missed out on.
@kgamer121 I've read that, but I personally don't really mind to much about speed. I'm not a martial artist. I more care about safe lifting with maximum benefit, that is strenght and muscle developement in this case. I get your point, but lifting very fast increases the risk of injury and more use of momentum, thus less muscle developement.
@jlvi13 I promise you'll see faster muscle devepment lifting more explosively than through isometrics. Or at least more functional strength gains. Because you're going to fire more muscle fibers if you are exploding as fast as you can, and there are safe ways to lift explosively. That is why a barbell is recommeneded here, rather than dumbells. Good examples of explosive lifting are Kettlebell training , hitting tires with sledge hammers and olympic lifting.
@kgamer121 This is not isometrics. There is a huge difference between lifting slow and isometrics namely that the latter one is motionless. I get your point, don't worry, but I prefer to lift slow since that works better for me. I've had done some olympic lifting and stuff, but the controled slow from gives me a better burning feeling then explosive exercises.
@Rockninwill There are easier ways to get in better shape then him. Although, you'll probably not be able to be so complete as mr. Lee. He wasn't particularly muscular, but he was strong, flexible, fast and had great skill and an amazing endurance. I stick with strenght and flexibility. It's unrealistic to try and develope all those fitness goals equally. You got to make some choices.
@jlvi13 Wah, thanks nice reply. Yes i Think I should stick with strenght And endurance but i don't know which exercises I should do because Bruce writes in his book, some exercises that are way too hard to do.
@Rockninwill Work yourself up to it. There comes a time you laugh at thinking those exercises were hard. It only takes time to develope strenght. If you don't give up, you can never lose!
Good job with your research. Lee favored compound barbell exercises and trained with weights 3 days week. Of course he did other specialized exercises like forearms waist isometrics cardio. Lee was concerned with strength rather than size.
@iceblue4u Yeah, this is perhaps 1 / 100 of his workout history, but it's the part I like most, since it makes sence. I have had over a 50 workout routines as well in the past 3 years, so asking me what my routine is, would be the same as asking him. Nobody sticks with the same routine much longer then 3 monhts (which already is very long). Thanks for the comment!
@und3r22 Actually, I think that's why he was not as strong as he could have been. The isometrics are fine, but the running didn't really make him stronger. His lunges maybe, but not his body.
@jlvi13 if you talk about muscles is clear that it could be bigger, but mess up the speed, running is good for the whole body, especially for breath and legs and burn calories. personally think that there is no exercise more complete for the legs than run, works most muscles of the leg, you can see the result in 1 week, is not about muscles, but the power of his hits, he was more focused on speed as that the kinetic energy of the blows increases more when there is more speed than mass.
@jlvi13 He did lift weights. Remember, your body is one piece. Anything you do has a benefit for the whole, but the point is, which Bruce was searching for, is to find the most efficient ways, while keeping it interesting.
@notlengthy I can't argue that it makes some parts of your body stronger. Tell me why a K1 fighter should be able to run 10km in 40 minutes while he only does 3 rounds of 2-3 minute fighting on very high intensity. Running can't be compared to a fighting match, because those matches most of the time take less time and more intensity. That's why running long distances (like mr. Lee did) are not functional for MA in general. Sure, it improves lung and heart function, but so do HIIT workouts.
@jlvi13 bruce lee didnt do marathon running, he had a method where he would sprint to his hardest and then go back to a steady pace and he would repeat that for a couple miles.
@darkstarfear Yeah, I know that, it's called interval training. If you repeat it for a couple of MILES it is long endurance training. A couple of miles takes you about 1 hour minimum, so it can hardly be called High Intensity Interval Training. Fact is that he burned a lot of calories with it, calories he didn't eat. At least, according to the dietplans I've seen of him.
Nice work-- Good Mornings are done with the bar across your back. You're doing Deadlifts. I couldn't hear the audio, but the Deadlifts are safer as I did hear you mention that Bruce injured his back doing Good Mornings.
Ive been practicing pull ups everyday, like everytime i walk past my bar i do 1, currently, i can do 3 in 2 weeks of having the bar... Is that progress good or bad?
@TheMrClarko The progress is quite decent, BUT the way you do it is as wrong as can be. Don't work out the same muscle every day. Work out the same muscle group (in this case, lattisimus dorsi) only 3x a week max!
I'll send you a link of doing 15 pull ups in 15 weeks!
@beller66 That's already very good. Not a lot of people can do 15 pull ups, so well done. Take your time to get to 20, fast results often don't go for long.
@jlvi13 yeah. I used to be able to do 20-25 easily when I was 5. Now I can do only one. That's what no extercise and sitting around all day does. But working my way up there.
@beller66 Don't often do chin ups. I prefer barbell curls for them at the moment. When I do pull ups I do about a 100-130 in sets of 10 with 60 seconds of rest in between. When you go up and down as far as you can then you will get a great workout and don't have to do more then that. I can do about 25 in a row though, but I always feel like pull ups are way harder then push ups.
@beller66 You can easily fit them in 1 workout routine. Do note, that you don't really work out your upper back with this routine. Do some pull ups on other days.
If you like you can also spread it, but it's not neccessary since these are only 2 sets for only 1 exercise.
hi, i know you talked about bruce lee's diet plan but i'd like to know what your own diet plan is cos i'm actually the same age and height as you and i've tried all sorts of workouts but never really gotten any major gains. i wanna try this workout but i'm guessing there's some sort of diet plan with it? also, do you do any kind of martial arts?
@ajcksn24 Yeah, there are tons of websites showing it, but it's not really a good diet. Nutrition happens to be my field of specialty and I can tell you he didn't fuel his body as good as he had to. I'll send you a link, but you could've just googled it.
@namonamonamonamo 19 years old, bench press 71kg, 5 reps. Don't have a safe bench to press (no racks), so I could probably work up to 80 easily when I had.
Hey j, so what is your diet for this? do you follow the bruce lee diet... lol, Im thinking about doing this work out, how long does it usually take with all the reps etc excluding the good mornings, also what should I buy equipment wise.
@SealedsProductions No, I use my own diet, Bruce's wasn't really covering the amount of calories the average person will need to build muscle. I'll send you a link.
It will take you probably 1 hour or so. There are no pull ups in here, but I assume he did that apart from the weightlifting. I got the pull up routine on my channel as well in the playlist upper back.
You'll need a bench (with special racks for bench pressing), barbell and weights. Amount of weight depends on fitness level.
@kaindrg Yes, that, and he eats almost nothing. Which is why he had such low BF. He wasn't extremely muscular, although I don't believe he focussed on getting huge.
@jlvi13 mmm im sorry. Being that I study nutrition... eating less has nothing to do with lowering BF...BTW.. the workout you were doing on the bench is called the skull crushers. they work your triceps mostly. most of the workouts you've mentioned are compound workouts and yes they do initiate muscle growth and help to reduce body fat because your working more than just one muscle group. Also, what you eat is 80% of getting the body you'd like. 20% is sleeping habits, h20 and workouts.
@hawaiiancerveza I study nutrition myself as well. If you are going to deny that eating less will not lower your body fat then reread all the books you've ever had in hands, because it does. Yes, of course it's not the way to lose weight healthy, which is probably what you meant, but it will lower your bodyfat as well as overall bodyweight. The pull over was performed badly, but was a skull crusher. Skull crushers are with steady upper arms and only forearms moving the weight.
@hawaiiancerveza How many experts in a certain area can dissagree :)
I do agree with you on the eating and sleeping part, but working out obviously has an important part as well.
'Sleep like a baby, eat like a horse and grow like a weed'.
If you know how Bruce Lee's complete workout routine and dietplan would look like, you would probably agree with me that those 2 were not in balance. At least not, according to the resources I've had.
@jlvi13 true it is a percentage and it goes along with everything else. And yes from what you were saying Lees dieting was a very low calorie diet. Not the best for someone who is very active. Lee must of had a high metabolism to allow him to be so cut. Not many people can get bodies like that with a below calorie diet. His workouts seem to have ben with a lot of calisthenics (body weight) workouts. Personally I believe these are better than with weighted work outs yet some continued...
@hawaiiancerveza Agreed on that one. I often see people who never workout and drink loads of alcohol and eat a lot that still are ripped. They just are muscular naturally and burn a lot of calories without doing anything. Genetics makes us the persons who we are, we can only try to improve the things we're not good at or focus on things we are good at to get even better.
@jlvi13 ya Im kind of jelous of those people. But my dr said I do have a body that can gain weight fast as well as loose weight fast when I am relaxed. When I m stressed I retain weight and it just keeps going up. But I think that can go for everyone.
@hawaiiancerveza Your body should actually be losing weight when it is in stress. There are different types of stress. Disseases/illnesses, burns, colds, bloodloss and psyshic stress are all forms of stress of your body that will burn more calories. So the fact that when you are stressed and gain weight is most likely because you start to eat more when you're stressed out.
@jlvi13 The body goes on a famine mode slows the metabolism down and tries to reserve what it can. When the body is on constant "rev" stress, bad stress the body will try to hold on to as much energy it needs effecting the body not to use much energy since the body is in a flight or fight state rather than relaxed it won't burn much energy because it reacts to the stress perfectly. It is preparing to run away from what ever danger the person is facing.
@hawaiiancerveza Nice words, but there is nothing really right in those words I'm afraid. Stress definitely raises the metabolism leading to more energy burned which can result in losing fat, not gaining it. Only people with Ulcerative colitis will lower the metabolism in stress periods, but only 0,1% of the population has that problem. Besides, that last theory hasn't been proven. It's just a suggestion of scientists. I'll send you a link of my source. Could find more if I wanted to.
@jlvi13 weighted workouts are beneficial when they are applied to work outs that are a normal activity action such as cutting wood.(not the best example but some people do cut wood daily.) I had a cinese friend and we used to call him Bruce Lee because no matter if he ate a lot or not he maintained his ripped body. He never touched weights too and yet he was ripped due to the type of body he had. I assume that Lee had a similar body. He id workout but his genes id play a large part too. =)
This is just one of the many workouts Bruce Lee did, although the repetitions are a bit inaccurate, this is one of the later barbell routines that he used.
The good mornings he recommended to use an empty bar, rather than a weighted bar, because it is more of a complimentary exercise and more weight is unnecessary.
You should definitely read the art of expressing the human body! it's a great book and has a lot of his workouts and training notes!
@Segadoway Well, this is what I've seen in the book and on the internet, so don't blame it on me. Even though I think the reps are actually accurate, no offence. Yeah, he never sticked with one workout. I don't do that either, I have about 20 different routines each year.
Good mornings with just a bar is not as effective as deadlifts
@Segadoway It's a pretty decent book, but I've seen better books on working out. People need to design their own workouts and not copy that of others. People think they will get the same results from Bruce's workouts as he did, but they most likely won't. The book has interesting workouts, but the nutrition part is really dissappointing. According to the book, he hardly ate any calories and worked out to much. Thanks for the comments though, it's a decent book, but don't turn it into your bible!
@Tigersteele Nope, I don't practise martial arts. Only do some kicks and punches every now and then. I do gymnastics, some martial art kicks and skills, freerunning, weightlifting and sprinting.
@vincent7125 Read the title. It shows you what Workout Bruce Lee used to do. It's a very common asked question, so that's why I covered his workout in a video. And you should know that it is to build power and some more muscle mass. That's pretty common for weightlifting.g
@3therock3 Thanks :) Well, I do have some issues with saying the 'r' ;) Always pronounce it as W. Have that in my own language as well. I can only pronounce the R properly in Spanish.
@jlvi13 well youre not like Bruce Lee but this routine should have helped very much to this result(sorry for terrible english but I am not english or american )
pull over is not for the back, it for the lat and chest depend the grip you hold wide grip for the lat and narrow grip for the chest. However do you take whey protein, dude
@vincent7125 And your lats are... that's right they are upper back muscles! I know it's for the lats, lats and upper back are considered the kind of the same by most people who work out. Most people who work out talk in Upper back and lower back, although they both consists of seperate muscles! It's like the Chest. Chest is not 1 single muscle either.
@RSkazuya True, I often used that exercise as well, BUT this is a barbell workout video of Bruce Lee, not a dumbell workout. Doing barbell curls with a EZ bar can also put strain away from your wrists.
@vincent7125 I agree on that. I just dislike the pull over. To get a stronger back I prefer to do barbell/dumbell rows for the thickness of my back and pull ups to get a wider span.
@vleon1012 Thanks, I don't do the pull over myself, so that's why it looks so awkward. Hope you can find the exercise in better form somewhere else. I could try it in another video, but I never liked the pull over.
Do you practice martial arts ?..

Quasar0324 1 month ago
@Quasar0324 Genetics play a big role also. I personally don't have good genetics for building muscle, so I need to work really hard for each gain. Besides that I'm a short dude, so I will not look as big as someone who is taller.
jlvi13 1 month ago
@jlvi13 how tall r u and how much do you weigh? Yuu have a similar physique to Bruce Lee im not kidding! Just do more deadlifts/bent over rows to widen your back, and work more on your forearms! (indoor rock climbing is fastest way to strong hands and forearms)

Quasar0324 1 month ago

Just type gsp training on search
skittleszy 1 month ago
@jlvi13 yeh if you look at muhammad ali who never used weights and was around 210-215 pounds when he was heavyweight champ, and then look at david haye who was around 210-215 pounds when he was heavyweight champ. Their physiques are so different because Ali never used weights while david haye used a lot of weights in his training.
skittleszy 1 month ago
@skittleszy I think Haye has a more muscular physique than Muhammad had back in the days, but maybe I have googled the wrong pictures. It can also depend on the genes, not everybody developes the same kind of muscles. It takes quite some time to reply to everybody, but I have plenty of free time this year, so why not hehe.

Or would you do chest on mday, shoulders on tuesday etc
skittleszy 1 month ago
@skittleszy I prefer to last option. I make my own routines rather than following that of others. My routines now usually consist of 1 muscle group per day, although my newest routine consists of training the bigger muscle groups 2 days a week, but with a lot less sets and exercises.

@c0smicdweller Make sure you check your stature when performing exercises. If you have access to a big mirror you should use one to look in during workouts. What is wrong with my shoulders? I don't really see one arm is higher than the other :) Probably got something to do with bad execution of the exercise. It's been more than 1 year ago since I've made this video.

Why do those exercises Build your testosterone?
Is it something in particular about them ?
Thanks for the video
citizenlares 1 month ago

Witch brings me to my point that i suspect running raises your hormones
citizenlares 1 month ago
@citizenlares I suspect I sometimes become a millionair, but I got no good reasons for that, nor do I think it will actually happen :P So why do YOU think it raises your hormone level?
I don't run because I first of all hate it, apart from sprinting maybe once in a while. It doesn't work for me and it burns calories I need for building muscle and feeding my brain!
jlvi13 1 month ago
@citizenlares yes... of yourse running raises your hormones...there was a study with soccer player who didn´t go to the gym but they trained 2-3 a week + 1 game!
the opposite of them were those who attend the gym but don´t run or sth. similar...
result: the soccer player have developed far more than the gym´s ...
Sinan97082 1 month ago
@Sinan97082 So you honestly dare to say that you can raise hormone levels by doing soccer by just one study? And can you tell me if it's the same for running? Running and soccer is something completely different as soccer requires a lot more different techniques than running. There really have to be way more studies to make something a fact.

@jlvi13 ah thats cool. thanks for answerign my question. I am under the impression that running and other aerobics is quite good for you, but whatever works for you right? bruce ran miles every day. and yeah great job
MrChrill7 1 month ago
@MrChrill7 Yes, and I don't run at all and my bodyfat is almost as low as his bodyfat was. So it proves that cardio is not always necessary if you have a proper workout routine and nutrition plan.
jlvi13 1 month ago
@jlvi13 Interesting take on it.. but fitness is not all about bodyfat.. cardio does alot of other things for our body, namely strengthing your legs, heart, and most importantly oxygenating your body. instead of beating around the bush, im just going to give you a link that you and everyone you know should take a look at, its called the buteyko method and it rly is by far the best proven way to improve ones health, fitness, wellbieng, and cellular oxygen levels. plz read website:normalbreathing
MrChrill7 1 month ago
@MrChrill7 True, although I don't think everybody needs to improve their oxygen capacity. Of course it will improve your health, but cardio such as running is very damaging on a long run for your knees, feet and lower back. It's about what way you prefer to workout. If you don't like cardio, then don't do it, but just do other things to improve your health like quit smoking and eat less saturated fats. Which will all strenghten heart as well.
jlvi13 1 month ago
Damn, you take any supplements bro? Nice job btw.
WuTang011 2 months ago
@WuTang011 Supplements don't give results, working out does. I'm against every supplement (including whey protein, although it's a good protein source). Almost nobody, including professional athletes don't need supplements. There are some groups of people that need supplements like those who are pregnant, some people with dark skin in a cold country, vegetarians and vegans and people with certain disseases. I'm probably missing a couple, but healthy sports(wo)men won't need supps.
jlvi13 2 months ago 2
@jlvi13 i agree with this to a point, however i believe i need something, i am what some people refer to as a "hard-gainer" i do not gain weight at all really... i tried whey protein once and it started doing something but, unfortunatly im a procrastinator so i couldnt stick with it, but that was the only thing really....i work out, i get stronger but for some reason the weight stays the same (give or take)...for most ppl there are other methods but i consider myself as an exception
DakotaWiggles 1 month ago
@DakotaWiggles It is proven in many studies that whey protein is not necessary and that you won't grow more with it than you would with a regular good nutrition plan. Which brings me to your problem. You can only be a 'hard gainer' if you don't eat enough. Eat more and you'll grow, unless you have metabolism problems which is very unlikely. Sure, ones metabolism can be faster than the other, but if you eat more the problem is solved. Send me a PM for reviewing your diet if u like.
jlvi13 1 month ago
@jlvi13 i never really had a specific diet, but i DO eat enough, trust me, people are usually amazed at how much someone like me can eat without gaining!!
DakotaWiggles 1 month ago
@DakotaWiggles Yeah, that's what they say about my brother too. He's skinny as hell and he really doesn't eat that much. I can tell, because I know how much he should eat and he doesn't eat that much. It's hard for a lay to tell if he eats enough or not. If you still can't gain weight when you eat enough you have got medical issues, but trust me, you just don't eat enough. If you think you do, add 500 kcal to your diet and you should gain 500 grams a week!

@aneeqster5 It's never to late to learn new things, so you are not to late for martial arts. But, you might not get your blackbelt on your 18th birthday if that's your goal. Start when you are less busy with school and feel you're ready. School is more important, so focus on that for a while and that way you will keep your parents happy too. how can I replace the Pullover and the upright rowing??!
Thanks
vezz1986 3 months ago
@vezz1986 This should be it:
Squat, Bench press, bent over row (which is already a replacement of the pull over), Clean& press and finish with barbell curl. A military press is a shoulder exercise, just like the clean and press. It's difficult to do two of these heavy shoulder exercises in just one routine!

HI JLIVI13, sorry but he exercise Goodmorning who you make, isn't deadlift.. but goodmorning are Hyperextensions! true??
vezz1986 3 months ago
@vezz1986 As I mention in the video, I think the good morning exercise is not safe. That is why I replaced it for deadlifts, as that is the number one lower back exercise anyways. Goodmornings are no hyperextions. Just google it and you'll know what they are.
jlvi13 3 months ago
@jlvi13 ok, but for you... which exercise was lee does? deadlift? or Goodmorning?
and You have followed this training program? really?
with what benefits?
Thanks ;)
vezz1986 3 months ago
@vezz1986 Lee injured his back by doing Goodmornings. He probably also did deadlifts. Please understand that this is just ONE routine he ever used. If he's like me, he has had over 50 different workout routines over the year. There is not one single routine that will give you endless results. Variation is very important. This routine is nothing special, it's just a very basic routine with most of the main exercises. He also did pull ups, which are not in this weightlifting routine.
jlvi13 3 months ago
@vezz1986 The benefits are that you can workout every bodypart in one routine. The downside is that after lifting a few sets you are tired and can't lift as heavy for the remaining exercises. I've used it for a few weeks, just to get some variety in my own routines. It's good, but not special as I mentioned before.
jlvi13 3 months ago
@jlvi13 Oh great! thanks for the answer.
do you think is best deadlift or Hyperextension + legcurl??

jlvi13 3 months ago
@jlvi13 Thank you soo much! good website!!!
but I need a routine for Martial Arts, maybe a fullbody! do u have?
This Lee's routine for me is a good solution because is fairly complete and trains all the muscle's chains.
(Certainly is very important to change the routines).
What do you think about?
vezz1986 3 months ago
@vezz1986 You'll need to work out the upper back by doing pull ups and rows seperately though. There is not a decent upper back exercise in this weightlifting routine. I have a martial arts video. Go to my channel again and look through my uploads. I've uploaded it a few weeks ago.
jlvi13 3 months ago
vezz1986 3 months ago
@vezz1986 Worse: press behind the neck is not good. Just do regular military press, upright row is not that effective in general, same for te pull over. Doing a barbell curl as the number two exercise is not logical if you are doing heavier exercises after that. Your biceps should be the last muscle group to work on, apart from the forearm region maybe.
jlvi13 3 months ago
Hey dude, I was wondering if you could answer my question. Deadlifts look like they could by deadly to your lower back. Can these workouts have a negative effect on your back in the long term? Thanks in advance for your answer!
Thewhiteronin 4 months ago
@Thewhiteronin If you perform them badly and if you don't do a good warm up and lift too heavy, yes it can be bad for your back. But, if you perform them with good form and build it up gradually you will benefit from it since it will help you to build stronger back muscles which help avoid injuries. So safety and performing it well is most important. Every exercise can be dangerous and risky on the long term, especially if you do it with bad form. Working out is not a natural proces!
jlvi13 4 months ago
for the clean and presses you clean the bar from the floor, what you are doing are hang clean and presses. on the back squats if you can lift into position it isnt enough weight, you should either get a squat rack or do front squats instead, also you should go all the way down for max muscle recruitment. on the bench press you should get a rack so that you can use more weight and when you go down touch the bar to chest. the good mornings that you are doing look dangerous you should do deadlifts.
zerordieb87 5 months ago
@zerordieb87 Lol, what good mornings, there are no good mornings in this video. I only did deadlifts, regular ones, not stiff legged ones. I know the weight was to light for the squats, it was the safest amount I could lift above my head. Now I got a squat rack with which I can perform safe bench presses as well. The clean and press wasn't perfect, but it worked well. Thanks for the comment though, but don't judge someone on just one video in case you did.
jlvi13 5 months ago
@jlvi13 you should check your form on the deadlifts then. its cool that you got a squat rack that will really help. i didnt judge, ive seen your other vids and they your bodyweight stuff is impressive i was just trying to help you get the most out of your workouts.
zerordieb87 5 months ago
@zerordieb87 Okay, thanks. That's a good quality, not judging after one video or after one first impression. My first impressions are almost always wrong.
jlvi13 5 months ago
@jlvi13 You are missing one of the key components of how Bruce Lee lifted weights. HE BELIEVED IN LIFTING THEM AS FAST AS POSSIBLE, and not only should you be looking to increase the amount of weight you use as you get stronger, but you should be able to move the weight faster. Everything in "The Art of Expressing the Human Body" is ALL about speed being dependent on strength and its all about doing strength exercises to get FASTER. This a huuuuuuuuuge detail you missed out on.
kgamer121 5 months ago
@kgamer121 I've read that, but I personally don't really mind to much about speed. I'm not a martial artist. I more care about safe lifting with maximum benefit, that is strenght and muscle developement in this case. I get your point, but lifting very fast increases the risk of injury and more use of momentum, thus less muscle developement.
jlvi13 5 months ago
@jlvi13 I promise you'll see faster muscle devepment lifting more explosively than through isometrics. Or at least more functional strength gains. Because you're going to fire more muscle fibers if you are exploding as fast as you can, and there are safe ways to lift explosively. That is why a barbell is recommeneded here, rather than dumbells. Good examples of explosive lifting are Kettlebell training , hitting tires with sledge hammers and olympic lifting.
kgamer121 5 months ago
@kgamer121 This is not isometrics. There is a huge difference between lifting slow and isometrics namely that the latter one is motionless. I get your point, don't worry, but I prefer to lift slow since that works better for me. I've had done some olympic lifting and stuff, but the controled slow from gives me a better burning feeling then explosive exercises.

Rockninwill 7 months ago
@Rockninwill There are easier ways to get in better shape then him. Although, you'll probably not be able to be so complete as mr. Lee. He wasn't particularly muscular, but he was strong, flexible, fast and had great skill and an amazing endurance. I stick with strenght and flexibility. It's unrealistic to try and develope all those fitness goals equally. You got to make some choices.
jlvi13 7 months ago
@jlvi13 Wah, thanks nice reply. Yes i Think I should stick with strenght And endurance but i don't know which exercises I should do because Bruce writes in his book, some exercises that are way too hard to do.
Rockninwill 7 months ago
@Rockninwill Work yourself up to it. There comes a time you laugh at thinking those exercises were hard. It only takes time to develope strenght. If you don't give up, you can never lose!
jlvi13 7 months ago
Good job with your research. Lee favored compound barbell exercises and trained with weights 3 days week. Of course he did other specialized exercises like forearms waist isometrics cardio. Lee was concerned with strength rather than size.
iceblue4u 7 months ago
@iceblue4u Yeah, this is perhaps 1 / 100 of his workout history, but it's the part I like most, since it makes sence. I have had over a 50 workout routines as well in the past 3 years, so asking me what my routine is, would be the same as asking him. Nobody sticks with the same routine much longer then 3 monhts (which already is very long). Thanks for the comment!
jlvi13 7 months ago
nice vids. Bruce aways run a lot every day and make a lot of isometric exercises. i think that why he was so strong!
und3r22 8 months ago
@und3r22 Actually, I think that's why he was not as strong as he could have been. The isometrics are fine, but the running didn't really make him stronger. His lunges maybe, but not his body.
jlvi13 8 months ago
@jlvi13 if you talk about muscles is clear that it could be bigger, but mess up the speed, running is good for the whole body, especially for breath and legs and burn calories. personally think that there is no exercise more complete for the legs than run, works most muscles of the leg, you can see the result in 1 week, is not about muscles, but the power of his hits, he was more focused on speed as that the kinetic energy of the blows increases more when there is more speed than mass.
und3r22 8 months ago
@jlvi13 He did lift weights. Remember, your body is one piece. Anything you do has a benefit for the whole, but the point is, which Bruce was searching for, is to find the most efficient ways, while keeping it interesting.
CountVonBrink 8 months ago
@jlvi13 You cant actually argue the fact that running makes you stronger... Especially as a fighter, cardio is extremely important.
notlengthy 7 months ago
@notlengthy I can't argue that it makes some parts of your body stronger. Tell me why a K1 fighter should be able to run 10km in 40 minutes while he only does 3 rounds of 2-3 minute fighting on very high intensity. Running can't be compared to a fighting match, because those matches most of the time take less time and more intensity. That's why running long distances (like mr. Lee did) are not functional for MA in general. Sure, it improves lung and heart function, but so do HIIT workouts.
jlvi13 7 months ago
@jlvi13 bruce lee didnt do marathon running, he had a method where he would sprint to his hardest and then go back to a steady pace and he would repeat that for a couple miles.
darkstarfear 7 months ago
@darkstarfear Yeah, I know that, it's called interval training. If you repeat it for a couple of MILES it is long endurance training. A couple of miles takes you about 1 hour minimum, so it can hardly be called High Intensity Interval Training. Fact is that he burned a lot of calories with it, calories he didn't eat. At least, according to the dietplans I've seen of him.

@durty1calhoun Yeah, I know, that's why I replaced it by deadlifts. I also find that a more complete exercise then good mornings.

Ive been practicing pull ups everyday, like everytime i walk past my bar i do 1, currently, i can do 3 in 2 weeks of having the bar... Is that progress good or bad?
TheMrClarko 8 months ago
@TheMrClarko The progress is quite decent, BUT the way you do it is as wrong as can be. Don't work out the same muscle every day. Work out the same muscle group (in this case, lattisimus dorsi) only 3x a week max!
I'll send you a link of doing 15 pull ups in 15 weeks!
jlvi13 8 months ago
Your in boss condition , really fit looking
jeeaaman 8 months ago
wow thats impressive. im trying to get to 20 in a row. i did fifteen the other day. almost there.
beller66 9 months ago
@beller66 That's already very good. Not a lot of people can do 15 pull ups, so well done. Take your time to get to 20, fast results often don't go for long.
jlvi13 9 months ago
@jlvi13 yeah. I used to be able to do 20-25 easily when I was 5. Now I can do only one. That's what no extercise and sitting around all day does. But working my way up there.
TheFitnessShinobi 8 months ago
thx alot dude! pull/chin ups are my favoret exercise. how many do you usually do?
beller66 9 months ago
@beller66 Don't often do chin ups. I prefer barbell curls for them at the moment. When I do pull ups I do about a 100-130 in sets of 10 with 60 seconds of rest in between. When you go up and down as far as you can then you will get a great workout and don't have to do more then that. I can do about 25 in a row though, but I always feel like pull ups are way harder then push ups.
jlvi13 9 months ago
I think your voice is too away from the mic. You should record your voice separately. Nice videos, btw. :)
foxmpcbr 9 months ago
@foxmpcbr Yeah, I'm doing that in my newer videos. Got a better mic as well.
jlvi13 9 months ago
should i do these exercises in 1 day or should they be spread out?
beller66 9 months ago
@beller66 You can easily fit them in 1 workout routine. Do note, that you don't really work out your upper back with this routine. Do some pull ups on other days.
If you like you can also spread it, but it's not neccessary since these are only 2 sets for only 1 exercise.
jlvi13 9 months ago
hi, i know you talked about bruce lee's diet plan but i'd like to know what your own diet plan is cos i'm actually the same age and height as you and i've tried all sorts of workouts but never really gotten any major gains. i wanna try this workout but i'm guessing there's some sort of diet plan with it? also, do you do any kind of martial arts?
harknessj112 9 months ago
@harknessj112 Made a video about it a while ago, I'll send you the link.
jlvi13 9 months ago
Hey this is a great video...would u happen to know Bruce Lee's diet plan? Because he was lean as hell!
ajcksn24 9 months ago
@ajcksn24 Yeah, there are tons of websites showing it, but it's not really a good diet. Nutrition happens to be my field of specialty and I can tell you he didn't fuel his body as good as he had to. I'll send you a link, but you could've just googled it.
jlvi13 9 months ago
how old are you?
and how much can you bench bress? just curious
namonamonamonamo 9 months ago
@namonamonamonamo 19 years old, bench press 71kg, 5 reps. Don't have a safe bench to press (no racks), so I could probably work up to 80 easily when I had.
jlvi13 9 months ago
hey man what is your weight? and How tall are you? I have the same body as you except for Abs (I'm working on it)
I want to have a reference
Thanks you

@jlvi13 thanks! BTW nice work, keep going! it works!
autonom 9 months ago
Hey j, so what is your diet for this? do you follow the bruce lee diet... lol, Im thinking about doing this work out, how long does it usually take with all the reps etc excluding the good mornings, also what should I buy equipment wise.
SealedsProductions 10 months ago
@SealedsProductions No, I use my own diet, Bruce's wasn't really covering the amount of calories the average person will need to build muscle. I'll send you a link.
It will take you probably 1 hour or so. There are no pull ups in here, but I assume he did that apart from the weightlifting. I got the pull up routine on my channel as well in the playlist upper back.
You'll need a bench (with special racks for bench pressing), barbell and weights. Amount of weight depends on fitness level.
jlvi13 10 months ago
i read bruces diet and that shit involves wayyy tooo much commitment.
kaindrg 10 months ago 5
@kaindrg Yes, that, and he eats almost nothing. Which is why he had such low BF. He wasn't extremely muscular, although I don't believe he focussed on getting huge.
jlvi13 10 months ago
@jlvi13 mmm im sorry. Being that I study nutrition... eating less has nothing to do with lowering BF...BTW.. the workout you were doing on the bench is called the skull crushers. they work your triceps mostly. most of the workouts you've mentioned are compound workouts and yes they do initiate muscle growth and help to reduce body fat because your working more than just one muscle group. Also, what you eat is 80% of getting the body you'd like. 20% is sleeping habits, h20 and workouts.
hawaiiancerveza 9 months ago
@hawaiiancerveza I study nutrition myself as well. If you are going to deny that eating less will not lower your body fat then reread all the books you've ever had in hands, because it does. Yes, of course it's not the way to lose weight healthy, which is probably what you meant, but it will lower your bodyfat as well as overall bodyweight. The pull over was performed badly, but was a skull crusher. Skull crushers are with steady upper arms and only forearms moving the weight.
jlvi13 9 months ago
@hawaiiancerveza How many experts in a certain area can dissagree :)
I do agree with you on the eating and sleeping part, but working out obviously has an important part as well.
'Sleep like a baby, eat like a horse and grow like a weed'.
If you know how Bruce Lee's complete workout routine and dietplan would look like, you would probably agree with me that those 2 were not in balance. At least not, according to the resources I've had.
jlvi13 9 months ago
@jlvi13 true it is a percentage and it goes along with everything else. And yes from what you were saying Lees dieting was a very low calorie diet. Not the best for someone who is very active. Lee must of had a high metabolism to allow him to be so cut. Not many people can get bodies like that with a below calorie diet. His workouts seem to have ben with a lot of calisthenics (body weight) workouts. Personally I believe these are better than with weighted work outs yet some continued...
hawaiiancerveza 9 months ago
@hawaiiancerveza Agreed on that one. I often see people who never workout and drink loads of alcohol and eat a lot that still are ripped. They just are muscular naturally and burn a lot of calories without doing anything. Genetics makes us the persons who we are, we can only try to improve the things we're not good at or focus on things we are good at to get even better.
jlvi13 9 months ago
@jlvi13 ya Im kind of jelous of those people. But my dr said I do have a body that can gain weight fast as well as loose weight fast when I am relaxed. When I m stressed I retain weight and it just keeps going up. But I think that can go for everyone.
hawaiiancerveza 9 months ago
@hawaiiancerveza Your body should actually be losing weight when it is in stress. There are different types of stress. Disseases/illnesses, burns, colds, bloodloss and psyshic stress are all forms of stress of your body that will burn more calories. So the fact that when you are stressed and gain weight is most likely because you start to eat more when you're stressed out.
jlvi13 9 months ago
@jlvi13 The body goes on a famine mode slows the metabolism down and tries to reserve what it can. When the body is on constant "rev" stress, bad stress the body will try to hold on to as much energy it needs effecting the body not to use much energy since the body is in a flight or fight state rather than relaxed it won't burn much energy because it reacts to the stress perfectly. It is preparing to run away from what ever danger the person is facing.
hawaiiancerveza 9 months ago

hawaiiancerveza 9 months ago
This is just one of the many workouts Bruce Lee did, although the repetitions are a bit inaccurate, this is one of the later barbell routines that he used.
The good mornings he recommended to use an empty bar, rather than a weighted bar, because it is more of a complimentary exercise and more weight is unnecessary.
You should definitely read the art of expressing the human body! it's a great book and has a lot of his workouts and training notes!
Segadoway 10 months ago
@Segadoway Well, this is what I've seen in the book and on the internet, so don't blame it on me. Even though I think the reps are actually accurate, no offence. Yeah, he never sticked with one workout. I don't do that either, I have about 20 different routines each year.
Good mornings with just a bar is not as effective as deadlifts
jlvi13 10 months ago
The art of expressing the human body, get it and read it!
Segadoway 10 months ago 4
@Segadoway It's a pretty decent book, but I've seen better books on working out. People need to design their own workouts and not copy that of others. People think they will get the same results from Bruce's workouts as he did, but they most likely won't. The book has interesting workouts, but the nutrition part is really dissappointing. According to the book, he hardly ate any calories and worked out to much. Thanks for the comments though, it's a decent book, but don't turn it into your bible!
jlvi13 10 months ago
@jlvi13
I was just meaning in terms of the Bruce Lee workouts hahaha.
I definitely agree though, and the nutrition part is a little hazy.

Nice video.
One tip, when you are doing (barbel curls last exercise) try to hold your elbows as close to your side as possible.
1 question: You practice any martial art to ?
For the rest great video, keep up the good work.
Tigersteele 10 months ago
@Tigersteele Nope, I don't practise martial arts. Only do some kicks and punches every now and then. I do gymnastics, some martial art kicks and skills, freerunning, weightlifting and sprinting.
jlvi13 10 months ago
For the barbell pullover keep your elbows in. Never let them bow. Other than that your form for everything else is great bro!
goodtimesagoogoo 10 months ago
@vincent7125 Read the title. It shows you what Workout Bruce Lee used to do. It's a very common asked question, so that's why I covered his workout in a video. And you should know that it is to build power and some more muscle mass. That's pretty common for weightlifting.g

Lazaros20ify 10 months ago
pull over is not for the back, it for the lat and chest depend the grip you hold wide grip for the lat and narrow grip for the chest. However do you take whey protein, dude
vincent7125 10 months ago
@vincent7125 And your lats are... that's right they are upper back muscles! I know it's for the lats, lats and upper back are considered the kind of the same by most people who work out. Most people who work out talk in Upper back and lower back, although they both consists of seperate muscles! It's like the Chest. Chest is not 1 single muscle either.

With hammer curls you can avoid the stressing of your wrists and also develop your biceps just as well with the regular curls.
RSkazuya 10 months ago
@RSkazuya True, I often used that exercise as well, BUT this is a barbell workout video of Bruce Lee, not a dumbell workout. Doing barbell curls with a EZ bar can also put strain away from your wrists.
jlvi13 10 months ago
bench press with too heavy weight, you will get struck
vincent7125 10 months ago
@vincent7125 It as only 62kg man, I usually press away 71kg.
jlvi13 10 months ago
pull over is hard to do dude
vincent7125 10 months ago
@vincent7125 I agree on that. I just dislike the pull over. To get a stronger back I prefer to do barbell/dumbell rows for the thickness of my back and pull ups to get a wider span.
jlvi13 10 months ago
very helpful video. so jealous of those abs, im getting there though.
ElJimmie 11 months ago
@vleon1012 Thanks, I don't do the pull over myself, so that's why it looks so awkward. Hope you can find the exercise in better form somewhere else. I could try it in another video, but I never liked the pull over.
