  • She melted my on the spot.... Completely lost it, she's so beautiful with her voice and strumming.

  • Melanie's Magic.

  • When I first heard this version on the radio. My god. That was a good day.

  • Unglaublich!!!!!!!! Einfach nur super!

  • 21 und ich glaube4 ich bin im falschen jahr geboren :) <3 love her

  • danke,

wie lang habe ich sie nicht gehört?

  • Oh by the way, you should be able to write messages to Melanie at her website, which I can't seem to give the URL for here, but google Melanie Safka and you'll quickly find it. A good way to communicate with her is to comment on her journal entries there, and you can add other things you want to say or tell her too. Melanie is pretty serious about her journal, so I'm fairly sure she'll be reading any comments people make there. And it's GREAT reading!

  • Arrrgh!! it just cut off again, and took me by surprise. Actually I know someone who just might have the full version of this video... I will check!

  • This is the best live version of this song on the net, which makes it even more of a pity that it cuts off before the end. Fritz, is there any chance of uploading the full clip? If you don't have the full video, I have the full audio recording and would be happy to share it with you so you could maybe use the ending of that to add to your video? Just message me if you'd like to do that. But thanks for putting this here, it's everything other people have said...

  • @Melmanian Even better than this version is the duet of the song between Melanie and Don Everly, taken from The Everly Brothers' television variety series, "Johnny Cash Presents The Everly Brothers Show," a summer replacement for Cash's series on ABC-TV in 1971.

The Everlys were gifted with two of the most beautiful, male singing voices ever recorded, at least in a popular music context. I'll concede there are greater male voices in opera, a genre of which I am not especially a fan.

  • @gymnastix Excuse me, that Everly Brothers' summer TV series was in 1970, not 1971. And the date of the ABC-TV broadcast on which Don Everly and Melanie sang a duet of "Ruby Tuesday" was 07-08-1970.

  • @Melmanian 'I disagree with those who have written here this version of "Ruby Tuesday" by Melanie is better than the original studio recording by The Rolling Stones. To favorably compare the version of "Ruby Tuesday" here by Melanie with the Stones' original is an exercise in futility.

  • @Melmanian While there's no doubt Melanie's raspy roar of a voice packs a punch, that Safka may really belt out a tune, to state that her recording of "Ruby Tuesday," as a whole, is superior to the Stones' very textured, orchestral studio arrangement of the song is to state other than what is truthful.

  • @Melmanian Seriously, play both recorded versions of this song back-to-back. Listen to the fluty flutterings of Brian Jones' recorder, the celllo duet of Bill Wyman and Keith Richards (Wyman pressed the strings against the fretboard, as Richards worked the bow), and Mick Jagger's precision of phrasing and the almost solemnity of his tone that renders the tune beautifully haunting.

  • @Melmanian Not only is the Stones',version better than Melanie's minimalist, folk arrangement of the song, the Stones' original studio recording of "Ruby Tuesday" is a masterpiece of baroque pop music, a testament to a virtual renaissance of classical influence upon a mid-1960s' pop/rock ouevre.that included The Zombies, "Walk Away, Renee" by The Left Banke, and the Stones' take on chamber music with "Lady Jane."

  • @Melmanian In fact, this is not even the best version of "Ruby Tuesday" on which Melanies has sung. That distinction belongs to a duet version of the tune sung by Melanie and Don Everly, on ABC-TV's "Johnny Cash Presents The Everly Brothers Show," July 8, 1970. In that renditioin, one may hear one of the most powerful female singing voices of popular music, accompanied by one of the two, most beautiful male singing voices of rock & roll.

  • @Melmanian A pity no studio version of the Melanie/Don Everly duo singing this song was ever recorded. For such an ideally-recorded rendition may have been a more serious competitor of the Stones' studio original of this song.

  • @Melmanian A pity no studio recording made of the Don Everly/Melanie duo singing this song, as such an ideally-rendered version may have been a more serious competitor of the Stones' studio original, based sheerly on the power and beauty of those combined singing voices, and perhaps with an orchestral arrangement.

  • It's a very rare song from the Rolling Stones which has been covered so nice - and one of the best by Melanie Safka

  • This is a classic performance of the song by Melanie. Unfortunately the clip seems to cut off before the end, which is a pity.

  • yeah Melanie was good ,better than the stones version no doubt , why all the moaning about the German audience ? eveyone knows they are serious cunts :P ☭

  • does anyone know how to get a hold of melanie plzzz leave a note ?

  • @altocumulas I think a few of us would like to get hold of Melanie, but seriously I guess internet search would be the best start ;o)

  • Is this a German audience, they all look as if they've had one viagra too many and their whole body has stiffened up.

  • @RikkiD46 Good one, ha!

  • ist immer gut solche musik zu hören, wie maache musik von heute.

  • meine Schwester lebte auch in Träumen,

  • Im came at least fucking 20 years to late on Earth.. damn..

  • we of the 45+ are soooo lucky.we have music like this.now there are covers done by Boys own .....HAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa ha.

  • best version ever even better than the stones

  • Melanie is rather a Pretty girl

  • Das ist eine wirklich gute Interpretation des Songs, ich bin begeistert!

  • i want to hear the full version -.-

  • excellent

  • It was in 1980 or 81, Melanie wanted to stay here in Innsbruck, Tirol, Austria.

For some reason, I don't know. Everyday she called her family, her kids in USA.

Still, held out here in the Alpes. Sad, sad girl. She sung this very song and others of her repertoire.

Hope she's allright now, back in the US.

    Bye, bye, Melanie

  • It's very rare that a cover impresses me more than the original. And as much as I like Keith Richards' song, I like this cover more.

  • The younger generation now has Justin Beiber!!! WHAT A TALENT!!!!

    yuk total and utter crap

  • One of the great songs, about the amazing Linda Keith, I understand...

  • stones kick this girls but

  • The girl on 1:03 nearly gets tears in her eyes ...I understand why!

  • Earthy voice and she has guts to play the style she wants.

  • In the day she was the most adorable little songstress. Sexy, sweet and unique voice. Very underrated. Love her.

  • Thank you very much for this song. I like Melanie very much . Many years ago my friend gave me a tape with her songs. ( in Poland). I still have it. Her voice is fantastic!

  • Ronnie Scotts Wednesday 29th June, 7.30-8.30 a great opportunity to see Melanie. Don't miss it!!

  • saw her at isle of wight festival 2010, she did all the classic stuff, now plays with her son and daughter backing hershe was great.

  • Should she be in the rock and roll Hall of Fame? I think you could make a very strong case for her but I doubt she cares much about such things but she should be considered....

  • wow :)

  • ...wow! i never knew her surname (didn't know she had one) but this was a stunning performance - wonder what happened to her?

  • @TheAutofax She is still making music with her children and living in Nashville.

  • what a fantastic cover, if you like this check out p.p.arnold with first cut is the deepest.

  • Melanie, que deviens-tu??

  • Anyway you could upload the video again without cutting off the ending? What a great cover of a great song. Thanks.

  • Ein WIRKLICHS SCHÖNES lIED!

  • Ah.....Melanie. Remember this from the 70s. Such an awesome song and a beautiful version. Here in the UK remember seeing Melanie singing this.... Getting old!!...but love this song. Love Melanie. She looks great too. From the UK Melanie, remember lots of nights with this playing. Thank you and love to all fans of this great version.....xxx

  • man this is amazing.... reminds me of my childhood days

  • Un - freaking - believable how fantastic this is..... & the memories it brings back.

  • Wow love this...I like this a lot more then the stones cut and I am ashame to say it but I have never even heard of Melanie Safka. Thank you so much for posting this.

  • Cover version better than the original... WAY better

  • Even when she covers someone elses song, she some how makes her own. A remarkable talent and a remarkable woman.

  • Maybe better than the Stones. The ultimate flower child . Thanks for posting.

  • Always liked the "still I'm gonna miss you" part as done by Melanie. Always liked Melanie. Thanks.

  • According to Bill Wyman, "the song was completely written by Keith Richards." According to Marianne Faithfull, "Brian Jones presented an early version of this melody to the rest of the Rolling Stones."

According to Victor Bockris, "Richards came up with the basic track and the words and finished the song with Jones in the studio."

According to me: it's a really nice song. Listen to it and enjoy it (it's time we shut up with speculating the author[s] . . .)

  • ich auch:)

  • Ich LIEBE Sie ! forever and ever !!!

  • A grand take on a special song...special and grand to so many of us. Memories. xx

  • record producers don't give a fuck weather justin fucking bieber and like can sing or not, chidren wanna hear his music. It's all about the money, always has been.

  • My favourite song from Melanie - used to listen to this all the time. Good to hear it again - thanks for posting!

  • What a hauntingly beautiful version of this classic tune. Lovely and simple.

  • I think the counter of likes and dislikes tells the story.

  • Astonishingly good! What a voice, what a performer, what a great heart. Thanks for posting this!

  • What's going to happen to Justin Bieber after his voice changes and he has to shave or grow a beard ??? The other night I saw Justin Bieber shot 5 times in the chest on CSI: Las Vegas. It's a good thing to happen for us guys who were growing beards at 15 years of age and tooting a baritone. Barry White still kills !!!

  • best song ever i cry every time i heare this song i dont now why

  • Melanie was 16 when she received a huge applause at Woodstock. During this tour, the then 16 year old accompanied by her mother and even brought home. so how it was before. Look Punk Merkel please

  • got shivers on that first goodbye. as if it was the last.

  • hey Justin Bieber is multitalented, he just appeared on a US drama show..

  • Random ugly woman at 1:02...wtf?

  • @Mcgoo66 or maybe the eye of your soul is ugly?

  • Yeah, because back then the music biz was nothing but killer stuff:

    Billboard Top 100 - 1975

    01. Love Will Keep Us Together » Captain & Tennille

    02. Rhinestone Cowboy » Glen Campbell

    03. Philadelphia Freedom » Elton John

    04. Before The Next Teardrop Falls » Freddy Fender

    05. My Eyes Adored You » Frankie Valli

    You tell 'em, gramps.

  • @joynthis Back then--as now--there were different outlets for music. There was the popular AM stuff that you cite--that all the "lames" listened to (Like Bieber)--then there was the underground FM stuff they only played on college radio. Learn some history beofre you criticize, Skippy. Out of the underground came such artists as: Santana, Led Zepplin, CSN&Y, Jimi Hendrix, and The Greatful Dead. Your lack of musical knowledge is glaringly apparent. Get an education before you open your mouth.

  • I got to meet and talk with her when she came to my town last year. Great voice.

  • Micks version was wonderful , and Melanies was magical. call it a score draw

  • You aren't missing a darn thing.

  • my favorite version by far

  • fantastische Musik!!

  • Simply fantastic

  • Oh, the memory! I wore this vinyl out years ago. Pure musicianship, sincere emotion. Not all that glitz and machine we have now.

  • Oh.... baby baby...baby baby...Oh...baby baby

  • And I'M soooooo GLAD that the music industry has just

gotten soooooo much smarter!!! Thanks all you "so - called"

    music producers

The younger generation now has Justin Beiber!!! WHAT A TALENT!!!!

    ;-)

  • @tobama08 I am very familiar with Melanie and her beutifull music but who is justin biebar? as a folk and ballad fan I havn't heard of him -am I missing something

  • @noproblem53 No, you're not missing a damn thing, unless you're either a pre-teen girl or a male pedophile. Justin Bieber's voice is 10% talent, 90% studio-concoction. Even so, nothing exceptional.

Take away the girlie face and hair, Bieber would still be singing with a hairbrush, in front of the mirror in his bedroom. In fact, I'm not sure he doesn't still do that anyway.

  • @noproblem53 As for dancing ability, Michael Jackson (speaking of the latter Bieber fanbase), at Bieber's age, was a pop music version of Fred Astaire when it came to choreography, while Bieber is merely an awkward teen practicing his moves in public.

A kid like Bieber should go to a performing arts high school, learn some real performance skills, then maybe would be qualified to appear on Broadway or in regional theater at age 19 or 20, as a chorus boy.

  • @tobama08 Wonder why I see Justin's name used on almost every video I watch..: /

I barely know who is is, but people use him in a negative manner to compare classical rock to today's music, meaning Beiber... He can't be all that bad..

  • @TheAlysheba are you sure about that? he's a disgusting product and reflection of profit motives as being the impetus for popular music these days.

  • @storybeliever Am I sure about what? I see him compared to a lot of classic artists on youTube. I don't know much about him, or his music. I assume he's in poplular music, a bubble gummin', teeny boppin', heart throb kinda guy? The teen idols of the 70's and early 80's actually had some talent. I mean David/Shaun Cassidy, Rick Springfield, The Monkees, The Jacksons, Donnie Osmand and clan could SING! Guess I'll listen/watch one of JB's videos here to see how well he does; any suggestions?

  • @TheAlysheba to be fair, the fella can actually sing quite well. its just easy to hate what everyone else hates.

  • @tobama08 i know right

  • @tobama08 how can anyone - anyone compare justin beiber with so much more talented voice like meanie ...

  • @tobama08 and of course Justin Bieber is all we got these days... I feel sorry for you that that's all you've got to know about today's music..

  • @emvi89 i think tobama08 was being sarcastic :)

  • @tobama08 where is it then?

  • @tobama08 Why always somebody has to tell something about Justin Bieber? It's boring!

Chillout, enjoy the sound of the best artists. (:

  • @tobama08 you are so right! :) xxx

  • @tobama08

Thats not true, Im 16 and listen to this ;) I HATE justin bieber :P

  • I saw her St. Patricks Day 1972 Westbury Music Fair First show. She was tired & stressed but still great. She really was bothered by all the people crowding round her, including me.

  • Truly one of the best !! Brings back great memories. Miss the musicians of the 60.s 70,s can play this song over and over and over!!!

  • Wow at times i get pissed off with the advanceing years but looking back on the great people who were around in my youth i am glad i was born in the time i was ...........

  • @eurotrucker99 I share your sentiments exactly! They were exceptional times and we had amazing artists to chronicle it.

  • Too kule for skule. This is a true STAR.

  • I Love Melanie even after all these years, just love her and her music and her voice, oh my heart still throbs when I hear her

  • I'm smiling big time!!

  • its a really great song i love it ♥

  • The very first time I heard Melanie sing this song I nearly ejaculated like a great big horny bull! I mean, there was semen everywhere!---Including some on the lampshade!

    Rock on, Melanie!

  • i dont like this .... i love it and always have done ...it seems to have a special kind of magic to me... re release it please ...xxx

  • Met her Mom, then her after one of many of her concerts in NYC around this time...the real article...genuine...true talent...two guitars and one big voice making all this beautiful music...

  • I Adore her!, Im only 28 and I just cant think of a musician that has moved me like her.

  • Thumbs up for hippies and there music!

  • listen to my version beth connor on pmtvocals runcorn

  • I love her voice she is fantastic....she's like Janis Joplin with more talent

  • This is fantastic!

  • wtf this girl rocks

  • Incredible! Beautiful. I like it better than the stones--so much soul.

  • I bought this song on itunes, but this live version is better. I have come back to watch this one and others many times of late. Never really knew her. I just remember the brand new key song as a child. What a talent!

  • The best concert I ever had the pleasure of seeing. She did not do "Brand New Key"

  • @Eddie2499 Not only did she do Brand New Key, she wrote it.

  • @onebaud I meant she did not sing in at the concert I saw. Sorry I word things poorly.

  • Melanie is always at her best when live

  • Great music !

  • Beautiful..

  • Ha. Listening to this I didn't know it was from 1975, and I thought, "wow, this reminds me of great, soulful 70's stuff." Great performance.

  • stunning vocals

  • My life in 1975 or so.... right before college! And now, a Ruby Tuesday restaurant is about to open next to my office! What goes around, comes around... as they say.....

  • My life in 1975 or so.... right before college!

  • Great arrangement of this Classic Brian Jones classic. Thanks.

  • @aliwhitwell Brian Jones? It was written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards.

  • @cbak12sg There has long been an argument about whether Brian Jones or Keith Richards wrote this song but hey, who cares, it's a great song whatever. Certainly Jagger admitted that he had no part in writing the song!

  • @aliwhitwell Brian Jones? I thought this was written by Mick 'n' Keef.

  • @emjayeuk It was. More of the Brian/Mick/Keith feud.

  • I like Melanie. She had a style all her own, and did some wonderful stuff in the early 1970s. Definitely a part of the better memories of my high school years!!! Thanks for posting this.

  • die beste Musik die es je gegeben hat

  • I first saw your concert on TV in 1980, i recorded it on cassette i treasure it.

  • the stones are better but you are also very good

  • She's unique!

i'm so used to her version of this song that i can not stand the original version (yeah, it's a bad thing to say but melania is so charismatic..)

  • Melanie Safka covered this in 1970, not 1975, though this performance may be 1975

  • @EyeIndependentFilms That's why it says "Melanie Ruby Tuesday 1975"

  • @EyeIndependentFilms

You're right I must have worn it out in our cafe juke box, played it again and again and again.

  • Wieder mal was Neues kennengelernt. Gefiel mir sehr.
