fairly basic q here, ive literally just got a guitar(electric) but im also in market for an accoustic but as of yet cant play, i have a book but it dosnt help with this 1 thing, when playing in a fret do i press the string into the metal? or into the space between the metal parts, ive heard different things and its confusing the hell out of me, does this vary on what sog or chord /singular string ur playing at the time? thanx

you press in the space between the two metal parts, but your finger should be close to the metal of the fret your playing. So if your playing the fifth fret, your finger should be in between the 4th and 5th metal bars, but should be much closer to the 5th. Its not terribly important, you just have to press down hard enough. experiment for yourself. No, it has nothing to do with the song or chord.
