Forget that! Working for FREE is the best option for individuals such as myself. Although Im not getting money, I am most certainly able to market myself AND build networks with professionals in the field. Its better than sitting at home and playing the Wii.

This is a down economy and employers in these companies are trying to do everything they can to save money and still make money even if it means using an intern they have no intentions on hiring for little to no pay. You really need to wake up. That's how companies work.
Yea, it's a good idea to at least get some experience. I've heard of stories where hiring managers will not even consider anyone who hasn't worked in some means in 6 months. The thing is when you decide to go to college, you implicitly take up any costs to get that degree, which may mean you have to go and pay to get an internship or volunteer, but it's worth it. I just graduated from college in December with three degrees in a science background, and I work for minimum wage at Sears.
@redoctober90 You should've thought about that before you went to college. You would've gotten a better education from the military. Paid on the job training and you can usually get hired at a civilian job right away when you get out. College is just a Bernie Madoff Ponzi scheme.

And yea, there's preference for veterans. But a lot of them come out hardened and thinking that they had it harder than anyone and that they can push management out. Not so. The truth is that college is not the end all, but the first step in a lifelong journey. It might be different down there though.
job market was brutal in mid-late 1990's. as a new grad already passed RN boards I offered to work as a nurse assistant and if they liked how I work can be considered for hire as a staff nurse. no one hires without experience..even today.

@DontGoToCollege because working for free is exactly like wasting time. if you do an internship and your getting graded for your work, see if internships exist that also grade you but pay you even minimum wage to make the effort worth while.
always negoitate your worth in time, otherwise, your invalidating the commodity of labor.

Instead you could learn by yourself there's a lot of resources this day to do so, you can buy almost any book online, and just the internet is full of resources even tho a great book will always be he best option; Study, research, develop, get experience and be modest (yes working for free, my first job was $50/week now Im CEO)

TRue, not every grad can afford it. Many of us don't have support and will be recieving bills for student loans in 6 months time.
