The fact of the matter is your comparing a guy who has near enough the same method of acting in every film (Does Professor Snape seem rather camp to you? Or is it just me?) to a guy who immerses himself completely in every film and has never been honoured by the academy. The best movie ( to me) that Luc Besson has ever made was Léon, The Professional (1993). Loved Gary as Stansfield. So intense , its wonderful.

He should have won an Oscar for his role in The Professional. Even Natalie Portman says working with him was the easiest acting ever, because their scenses together were almost terrifying for her. Oldman is one of the best in the movie business without doubt.

@rubend2007 I totally agree that G.O. is so underrated as an actor. If he were American and not a transplanted Brit, I believe he would have that nomination and Oscar by now. He's easily as talented as Deniro, Pacino, Nicholson and even the lady of many accents, Meryl Streep. He also swims against the tide, politically, in Hollywood, which is career suicide for most entertainers, but I believe it shows his intellect and just plain common sense, and I applaud his independent spirit.
