Actually, the first edition stuff was my favorite because of the cartoons and light hearted stuff Gary included. He founded the role-playing industry.
that game is like another world, when people judge you and criticize you can always go off and save the same people or hack the hell out of them... whatever you want but its more than that, its a world that he created.
Nice post! Gary Gygax has a place in the hall of fame of Roleplayers. I found a tribute Site for devolopers and gamers alike. GygaxGamers C0M , sign up and show your support. Thanks Gary, your legend will live on.
Me and my buddies are going to play D&D all weekend in honor of Gary. Dalkiel the Cursed is going to tear some undead ass! RIP Gary, thanks for creating limitless fun!
I grew up with D&D. It was the shit and so was my Wizard bitches! I lived in Milwaukee for a time and I thought many times of visiting his home, meeting the man and shaking his hand. Fuck. R.I.P. Gary.
The only experiance I've had with D&D and role playing is through computer games. There was never any one around where I lived to play pen and paper. But the video game industry wouldn't be the same without influences like D&D.
Damn guess he fail his saving throw. Hey I know a necromancer that can animate dead, granted he won't be the same gygax we know but hey you get me a player with a high level priest that can raise the dead and I'll show you a roc's tooth.
RIP Gary Gygax. Role playing games (especially D&D) helped me vent some things that are rather unsavory by most standards. They then helped me expand my imagination and distracted from some of my issues.
In character, I was usually some kind of bard (charismatic and/ or diverse type). I was always self-sufficient but shined when I had others with me.
I am my own RPG world based upon Gary Gygax's system. I am also writing based upon stories that I DM'd in his worlds.
I've only done a bit of actual D&D a few times in my life, but I've always been into fantasy and such. When I was a kid, I grew up playing some of the old DOS D&D games - Secret of the Silver Blades, Death Knights of Krynn, Eye of the Beholder...
In remembrance, I just grabbed my old copy of Greyhawk Adventures Book 1 - Saga of Old City, by Gary Gygax. This also was a book I really enjoyed when I was younger.
D&D helped me stay sane during my Army enlistment. I was never deployed or anything like that, but I definitely did not enjoy the lifestyle... it was kinda an escapist thing for me at first, I guess.
I always play some kind of spellcaster. Finding creative combinations and applications of spells and magic items are among my favorite moments as a player.
I love to DM, too. I can run a killer Zelda-esque dungeon run!

I played AD&D from 9 to 20 years of age.
It seems weird that the creator is dead.

What a heart felt, uncynical commemoration. My sentiments exactly. I was always a Fighter if I wasn't DMing.

If you haven't already check comic book stores. I've got a few in town where they sell D&D books and people advertise for players.. or games.

Well it's been years since I thought about it. When I was a kid I couldn't get into the city easily. maybe I'll give it another try.

So is it like when the "head" vampire dies and all the other vampire die too? I mean will all of the other nerds die too?
