You are amazing Jake. I love the little 'bass' run at 0:37 to 0:40 and the transition thereafter and also the little bit between 1:24 and 1:27. It's all good though.

  • This is one of those gorgeous half-forgotten tunes which serve to remind us how pitiful the current music industry is. You did a great job creating a convincing arrangement of it on your axe...hats off!

  • sounds great!! just incredible piece of art,

    are you in standard tuning?

  • Thanks! Yes, standard tuning... I'm not sure if this shows up in the annotations, but I have an instructional DVD showing how I play this arrangement if interested... Thanks again!

  • What is that gizmo on your tailpiece with the 9V battery? Sounds great!

  • Thanks! That's a preamp for the bridge piezo pickup.

  • I usually avoid acoustic versions of this type of music but This SO smooth...Mr. Jackson would be proud of your treatment of his composition!!!!

  • This is just BRILLIANT! I know this is nothing to do with Steely Dan, but if I were Donald Fagen I'd get you on board for my next album.

  • I'll go with Donald or Joe any day, pass along my number... ;-) Thanks for the kind words!

  • fantastisch... einfach nur GUT

  • awesome arrangement and killer machine you play it on

  • Nice playing man!Would love to jam with you. Ever come to Philly? I play drums(40 yrs.).

    Dan

  • Awesome!!!!!

  • Hi ! I'm watching & listening to the persons that had covered Joe Jackson's songs (in fact, I was searching persons that had covered "It's different for girls", and after having watched them, I felt on your video). Cool video. Did you record it in a music shop or are all those guitars and drums yours? If it's the case, I've looked but always saw you with the guitar that you use here. I'm very interested by the guitars, that's why I'm asking myself if it was your guitars? Cool video. BYE !

  • Wow thats exactly what i was looking for. that sounds perfect now if i could just learn how to play it...

  • Wonderful arrangement. Perfect execution. I really enjoyed this.

  • oh yeah

  • <3wow<3

  • what else can i say? MISMO!!!!

  • Man if I had alot of money I'd just pay you to follow me around and play guitar all day! hahaha Your kind of playing never gets old or annoying

  • These are tough times, it will cost you less than you think! All reasonable offers will be considered... ;-)

  • That was amazing. If I could play half as good as you I'd be a happy person.

  • Thank you sir! I have ALWAYS loved this song!

Your composition just adds that much more to it!

  • There are guys who play guitar, and then there are guitar players... you sir are a natural-born guitar player.

  • Thank you!

  • divine, very, very good indeed!

  • So good. You've got a good ear.

  • Really good performance. Really good sound. Bravo.

  • "..We -

So tired of all the darkness in our lives

With no more angry words to say

    Can come alive

Get into a car and drive

    To the other side.."

    BRILLIANT!

  • Wow! I've played piano for 23 years and I got to tell you that's some great playing!

  • Beautiful! Thanks for the relaxing music, my friend!

  • Awesome!!. Where can i find this version?

  • Thank you! I have the original high quality wave file of this performance so I can make a CD for you. Choose 10-15 of my tunes, I'll make a CD for you for fifteen bucks plus S+H. Please let me know if interested. Thanks again!

  • Beautiful rendition of one of my favourite songs.

  • For someone who was always lumped in the Punk/New Wave genre, this is certainly a vindicating arrangement. Beautifully played.

  • Great work here ! I've always admired those who can play quality arrangements for the solo guitar. Joe Pass was my favorite in this area.

  • one of my favorite songs. but that was an incredible rendition.

  • that was amazing

  • awesomeeeeeeeeeeeee !!!!!!!!

  • Jake. Please start recording. Your music will make a great addition to my Ipod collection. I'm a drummer myself , but your guitar play made a believer out of me.

  • amazing. i like your guitar.

  • this is brilliant.. thanks

  • WOW!!!...Just freakin WOW!!!

  • Very good, Les Paul would be proud!

No more short trousers please (and yes it is OK to smile to camera - you obviously are enjoying making music).

  • Very beautiful! Come play in Bend, Oregon! The Tower Theatre is a great venue.

  • This is what I call music! Thank you for sharing this beautiful interpretation with us.

  • Man, you need an award for your playing. You are precise and on point with it. Keep it up!!!!

  • BRAVO BRAVO!!! Nicely done!

  • as ususal, great rendition of an alltime classic, love it. i'd like to know, how much of it is improvised and how much is planned out beforehandß<

  • Thanks! In my arrangements, for the most part, I treat pop tunes like I would jazz standards, I play a loosely/mildly arranged head and improvise all the solos.

  • yeah, i thought as much. all the more admirable. arranging a poptune in a jazzy fashion is one thing, making it work full-fledged with solos and everything is an entirely different beast altogether, imho. very tasteful, no overload on flashyness or anything (as usual with your videos), just pure music and skill. i'm starting to get a bit envyous :-)

  • haha, i just realized i'm starting to sound like a fanboy :-) no worrys, i'm not going to stalk you or anything ;-) i'm just a fan of great guitarplaying, that's why i seem to follow you around, haha

  • Will you play in France in December-jannuar ? Bergerac is in the south-west, nice country for the cooking tradition, and good wine!

  • Yes, I have some guys, very good bass and drums, I play with every time I go which is 1-2 times every year. I don't have the schedule yet but I can let you know although it's probably too far for you to come... Maybe next time I can go all the way south. Thanks!

  • wonderfull ! may be you'll make jazz standards with these pop songs...

  • Thank you, that's the idea...! I will be in France in the Bergerac area around Dec 20 into early January.

  • whoa beautiful. 34-35 secs into it.

  • great job yet again!

  • then please catch all these "once in a whiles" on camera and share it with us!

  • you are a genious! it seems to be so easy for you....simply perfect! a pleasure to hear and watch you playing this song! thank you

  • Thanks! Genius seems a bit too strong a word, it's just that I live, think and feel music all the time and have done so for many years so every once in a while something good comes out of my guitar...

  • Wondeful job!!! You're fantastic, very well done, you respect absolutly Joe Jackson with your incredible art!!! five stars for you is not enough!!! bravooooooooo

  • Grazie!

  • Love what your doing. Peace.

  • Great as always. I'm always stunned at the harmonies you find in these rock and pop classics.

  • Fantastic as always-wish you played live in the uk.

  • Hey man, $50 will get me going almost anywhere! Seriously though, I travel to France every year. If I can build up a small (or big!) fan base in the UK, I'd definitely be into making a detour so who knows!

  • Great!!!

  • Thanks. You got a great channel too, i subscribed (and suggest others do the same) and will soon comment on your great music. What part of Spain are you from? I travel often to the Bergerac region of France. If you are not too far from Pays Basque maybe we can get together and jam sometime.

  • Thank you!! I'm in the Costa del Sol, Málaga. It's the south of Spain , Andalucía, far from Pays Basque. I really like the way you play pop tunes with that beatiful jazz languaje. Some of these are tunes that I hear when I was a teenager (Baby Come Back,Time, Eye in the Sky, Hey Nineteen and some other) it's a surprise to find it played in a such a good way. Keep up that good work!! Wish could see you playing soon.

  • Great job as always.

I would love to hear you bop into Cha Cha Loco as well.

  • Apart from his first album,my fave JJ.You did a very fine job.*****

  • Simply fantastic! Joe Jackson is such an amazing composer/performer who consistently draws from multiple genres. It seems so appropriate for you to record a Joe song since your playing and arranging draw from such a variety of traditions and styles as well. As with all of your "covers" you have honored the original while making the song your own. Well done...This is top notch!

  • Nice Playing...if u dont mind could u tell me what Ibanez guitar is it? thanks

  • Thanks. Artcore AG75.

  • Great job Jake. This is an awesome 80s new wave song, but there are so many more good ones in that genre. Even in the sub-genre of new wave ballads there's lots of good ones. You could try True by Spandau Ballet, Time After Time by Cyndi Lauper, Holding Back the Years by Simply Red, or one my favorites, The Captain of Her Heart by Double. I could go on and on. Actually you already did an 80s new wave ballad before, Save a Prayer, which I really liked. Take care for now.

  • Thanks. I play all those songs. I actually recorded Time After Time on my CD 16 songs. I sell all my tracks, including high quality MP3s of my YouTube performances, for a buck a piece through Pay-pal if interested. Thanks again!

  • Jake - This is one of my favorite songs from one of my favorite artists! Great job as always! Thanks for sharing these songs with us!

  • Yo Mark!
