I'll tell you why Kenny Chesney and todays "uber Nashville stars" can't sing music like this today... they aren't fully grown men and can't reach the microphone!!! I've been listening to Dale for a dozen years or more. He's as real today as he was back then but he represents the same things that Johnny Cash, Waylon, Conway and those guys did back in their day... they can't be controlled and wouldn't be anyones puppets. Their music will live forever, Chesney and Co. WONT!!!
No Nashville bullshit, no fasle and contrived conveyer belt crap. Just a great singer, a great song and a truly great artist. Dale Watson is the real thing, there is no doubt that he is indeed the saviour of traditional country music. Long may he continue to do for real, give us more more more!
country people always love to balance the scale here in eastern kentucky if some one hurt my child id bet my life they wouldnt make it through the trial my husband believes firmly in an eye for an eye this is a wonderful song with a real message to send
I have to agree, I think there is a lot of the spirit of Merle Haggard in his music too, not so much in this song, but in a lot of his material. Either way, as you say, he kicks ass. I wish we had music like this where I live, all we get is cliched mainstream pop country and the non country abortion that is "Irish country" UGH! Much respect to Dale and all true country music!
Wow, his voice reminds me of Johnny Cash! I don't think I've ever heard such a similar voice, it's pretty rare to find, because Johnny had a very deep, particular voice... Anyway, I like the song and I love that James Denton starred in that vid! Thanks for posting!
Same Here,Johnny Ca$h is my hero & Dale is my favourite living legend,I never thought someone else would get to me the way Johnny did/does but Dale is getting there,I'm a lifelong musician & the stuff he does & his attitude is spot on,Comes from me being a Johnny Ca$h & The Cla$h fan,Country Punk,LOL!
Going to see Dale this next weekend as he's in Scotland!
I tell you what, i cant listen to country on the radio nowadays, i listen to waylon, bocephus, jones, and the other boys on cds. If country is gonna make a comeback, its on Watson's shoulders.
This song is deep...has a lot of truth to it. Love your music Dale!

People say Dale's channeling Cash. And certainly he is with the subject matter. But I think he's voice and vocal delivery is more Conway.
But either way...
Dale kicks ass
As does this song.
