  • Miss you Johnny Boy.

My hurt in my heart not passed since you'v gone.

Glad a had a drink and puff with you in Ireland.

  • I'm sure I can hear this song coming from above...guess he made it ok and is still performing to packed audiences above...you are missed down her John...RIP and God Bless

  • wow. He went from being young and fit and handsome in a very short time to being completely fucked. What happened ?

  • @luckylangerie .. I think it was excessive drinking..I love his music.. although to me he was the Oliver Reed of the music industry. But then that's the price that genius's pay for their talent.

  • I had to hold back the tears ,i always loved his music especially in the 80"s.rip,Ian

  • Saw him once, young and more than just healthy. This really hurts.

  • bit sad really. a man who had so much heart, it killed him

  • STAG - Stop Talking At Gigs.

  • OMG someone finally posted a video of this gig! I was in the 3rd row! this brings back happy memories for me, but at the same time I realise he is not here any more and his passing makes me very sad- It seems i finally made one of his concerts just in time. R.I.P John . A legend never forgotten.

  • :'(

  • Can anyone tell me why he needed the wheelchair-did he develop some nasty illness? R.I.P John

  • @GalaxyHorse He had a cyst in his leg which burst and the leg went gangerous.causing him to lose his right leg below the knee!

  • My father went to school primary school with him, I've been listening to his music since I was a kid. He is truly the best there ever was.

  • 2 sheeple are off to watch some mainstream shit like lady ga ga and the like

  • What a privilege to have seen him in Glasgow on this final tour.

  • Love John Martyn with your head and heart (yes I know how cheesy that statement is)

  • i cant write anything im floodin with tears right now

  • @Own13r But ya managed anyway,,

  • Grace & Danger is one of the most powerful and moving albums ever recorded - thanks for posting - he was awesome!!!

  • Oh fuck - John Martyn is dead? Damn. Hadn;t thought of him in a while, and then went to look up his songs here - well, may God, if there is a god, bless his soul, if he had a soul -

I saw him in DC about 1982, a nice show - his last number was such a pretty little ditty that half the audience was whistling along - well, good-by to you, John Martyn, best of fortune in the afterlife...

  • @SupernalOne (if there is a SupernalOne) I only just discovered John and now you're tellin me he's dead! Thanks very-bloody-much!

  • @birdstuckinchimney

So sorry, I'd raise Martyn from the dead if I could \:^/ -- the experience surely would give him a lot of new song-writing material :^)

yeah, the good seem to die young, Rory Gallagher vanished while I wasn't looking too -- maybe "popular musician" is a high-risk occupation. Well, turn other people on to his music, his spirit at least will live on

  • blessings on this sweet man.. his music speaks to my inner been,

awesome gift sadly on longer with us.

  • @hazelbinks inner been,, WOW

  • @Dogsterr2111 i was there and after this song i shed a tear WITH John.

  • legend

    RIP

  • I was there...proud to be there...he plays this soooo beautifully!

    So much passion,soul...

    Many thankx for posting.

  • grandissimo

  • I first heard him play this evening, my dad sat and told me about the good old days. Ive gone through 3 of his albums so far and cant seem to stop. Despite only being 16 i can relate to this song, as can most.

Saddened that i never got to shake his hand =[

  • Danny Thompson was the name of the bass player back then. RIP John :(

  • just want to say thank you. Bless the weather and curse the storm.

    Cate

  • Sweetwaters NZ early 80s he mesmerised us with his absolutely superb performance....he was at his peak & that was the one and only time our paths crossed. he inspired me hugely . He was a king ,God bless his soul. the bass player he was working with was a prodigy...anyone happen to know his name?

  • Early 1980's: If it was a full band, it would most likely be Alan Thomson (Alan Thomson on this video)

If it was a duo with Bass then its probably Danny Thompson

As prodigy refers to someone young, my money is on Alan Thomson, a fantastic player. very underrated.

  • I nearly went to Sweetwaters that year but wasn't too inspired by the line up. Problem is I had no idea who John Martyn was, and to be honest I only have just disacovered him now, this very day...25 years on. If only there was Youtube back then I would have been there.

  • RIP, may you hurt be at peace now Xxx

  • RIP

    cant believe your gone

    xoxoxpats

  • when I returned home after work and read the sad news, I started crying for a musician the very first time in my life. he had it all: soul, lyrics, emotion. As I missed his only concert in Austria, I hope I will meet him playing his gorgeous music somewhere over the rainbow. the hurt in our hearts will never go away, John, RIP

  • this man pulled me into life and gave me all the music i needed my god rip iain

  • He lived life as it should be - to the max!

He will be sadly missed although some of his guitar tunings won't! God bless you big man and RIP!!

  • I cannot stop the tears and can't quite wrap my brain around John's death. Like many others here and on other sites, John was the soundtrack to life and the pain of life for 30 years for me. He is my favorite singer and songwriter of all time. No one articulated the difficulties and exquisite beauty of mortality like John. Like patterns in the rain...

  • The first musician I ever cried at when he died. His music covered all the moods and his passion was enviable. I saw him in Edinburgh, Milton Keynes and all over Glasgow. He was amazing and will always remain deep in my heart. From One World, John Wayne and Acid Rain to name a few, he was amazing. Tried to convert my wife to him but you can't win everything. The concert I took her to he was out of it, so not the best introduction.

Wish I'd caught his last one, but that's the way life goes......

  • @DEFuning You put it beautifuly man :-(

  • @DEFuning Said it better than I could - but I feel the same.

  • @DEFuning wot u said about john martyn was lovley, i had the joy of shakeing him by the hand b 4 one of iz gigs.

  • @DEFuning -one of the unique of all tjmes-

  • @DEFuning i am grieving for the fact that i have only just been introduced to this genius. I so wish i'd been and seen him while he was alive. What an amazing genius, i've never seen/heard anything like him....wow, thank god i've discovered him now! John Wayne was first track i heard wow wow wow so comanding yet soft....totally with ya hon :) i've fallen in love with him as soon as i heard him. So heart felt hey, his music will stay forever, a happy life to you xx
