  • i had my septoplasty repaired, but the nasal docter didnt use packing or splints why is that?

  • Hi MR D

In my video there is no packing or splints used either. If done properly it is not required.

Good surgical technique, amount of intranasal surgery, intranasal bleeding at time of surgery all account for whether packing is required.

  • thanks for the quick reply doctor. alot of what you said sounds similar to what my surgeon told me. in my situation, alot of the deviation was the bone towards the bottom, just above the columella. is it possible for this bony part of the septum to bend back? or is it only the cartilage part of the septum that can redeviate due to memory?

  • Bone has no memory only cartilage

  • Under 5% for most. In my hands , I remove the crooked cartilage and bone first. Then, I re-straighten the cartilage and bone and replace what was removed after morselizing (weakening) it. I suture/now staple the flaps together and don't pack. In my hands, the chance of re-deviating is well below 1% and approaches 0.1%.

  • hi dr, what is the likelyhood of the septum redeviating (due to memory) after a septoplasty?

  • No. No reason to unless life and death

  • do you use packing?
