You know... when you put those intros where you are playing all those cool songs, that really makes me feel motivated. And now that I know I'm gonna play one of those I'm really excited. =D
Hi, these lessons are helping me immensely. I'm practicing like a crazy person. But it feels like my left forearm is on fire now. Is this normal for a beginner?
Yes... absolutely! If you feel the burn it's a good thing* It means you're working muscles (building muscle & finger memories) like you've never done before.
After awhile it won't hurt after you've had time to rest and go back to the same exercises.... you'll be shocked how your nervous system adjusts to new tasks. Thanks!
If you can identify that I'm playing chords along the scale of C major ... then it sounds like you're probably at a more advanced level (and there are plenty of videos on YouTube for those who are *not* beginners).
However, what *I* do here is go at a slow enough pace to reach out to those who are not as knowledgeable as you seem to be beyond the basics.
So I am just going to keep on the lessons, now this is my third day and I am already on Lesson 7. I am going to be taking piano lessons in the fall and I still don't know how to sight read a sheet of music, even though I know the notes I don't recognize them fast enough to play a perfect harmony any advise on how I can improve on that area?
I love to play the piano, but I don't really know how. I've taught myself to play fur elise and moonlight sonata and a few others. And I sound like I can play, but I have gotten into such a bad habit. I don't sight read, I memorize the songs from the notes, one note at a time, I write the letter above the notes and then memorize it measure by measure. Can you reccommend any drills or anything to help me break my habit? I have a bad habit too of playing by ear.
unless you want to start taking formal piano lessons (you know... the boring stuff).... it sounds to me like you're doing all the right stuff.
There's nothing wrong with "playing by ear". Many of the best piano players historically never learned how to read sheet music or learned the "traditional way".
If you want to stop yourself from practicing bad fingering habits there are books you can get from the library on basic finger drills for piano.... if you feel you need them.
Bad? .... of course not. In fact that's exactly some of the things I do in my upcoming DVD. Its always a good idea to get creative.
You will see segments of all my lessons here on YouTube... but my website is where you'll gain full access (however it will take some time to get all 50 lessons developed and posted) - Thanks.
I can't follow when you speed it up after doing the slow part. But good work. Could you put the note letters in instead of numbers? I need to drill until I figure them out, just like in typing (50 years ago). (I am 69 yr. old)
im learning so fast... now i know how to read notes and everything.... yay i love you all sooooooo much.... i love you getpianolessons teachers....

lol Like the reference! I guess I need to practise more and then some more!! Are they any other good left handed excercises I can do?
Charrister 2 years ago
Absolutely! However I hope you don't accuse me of pushing my DVD if I tell you that all my best piano exercises (for both hands) appear on Disc*
After all, all the piano lessons you see here on YouTube culminate with the work I released on DVD.... but then again I'm not trying 2 promote* :)

Great videos. It's a good speed for those of us who are absolute beginners.

i don't understand why it would take until the 50th lesson to play this? It just sounds like you're playing the chords of the C Maj up and down.
Don't get me wrong, I'm sure I'll learn alot from them, but it seems like its being dragged out.
