Utd supporters claimed the same about Eric Cantona' but again' he never did anything at international level' to justify global greatness!

@kingarocknroll Rooney hasn't been great at international level (particularly the WC2006 and 2010, although was very good in wc2010 qualifying) but to be fair the entire England team has been poor in both those tournaments, and hasn't been performing well for many years. It's hard to do well as a striker with a weak or underperforming team behind you as you're so reliant on them for supply. @kingarocknroll yes true, although I think judging players against barca isn't always fair, as barca are the best team in the world at maintaining possession (seeing as their style is drilled into players playing with each other since they were kids) and so good players playing against them have far fewer opportunities, although Messi (who is the best player in the world by far imo) does have the advantage of being in a side which maintains 60%+ possession in most games and thereby (cont,,)

Rooney didn't have many chances but still managed to score (although I admit he didn't play particularly well the rest of the game). I think he's very inconsistent which is annoying, and comparable on individual technique and forward play he isn't even near Messi or Ronaldo (brazilian) but his qualities as a playmaker are very underrated I think :)
