  • What's a "foodswith?...1:45

  • what kind of AMP are u using to hear the music? I have one that I have not used yet because of course I cannot hear any patterns

  • I was using Roland Cube 15 at the time.

  • How much would guitar center pay for this used?

  • haha, this guy is awesome

  • Hey great review and loved you in that last movie Jackie !!

  • ha ha, thanks!

  • @lotoqui online it says it includes a footswitch. Does this mean the switch lets u switch from a verse to chorus pattern?

  • Yes in a way it is. Each pattern has two sub patterns so you can think those sub patterns are for verse & chorus.

  • As well as plugging in to the mains, can it also run on batteries?

  • no battery...

  • Hi could you mix in your own music from your ipod and play along with it?

And also could you plug in a midi controller (for example: the alesis USB Studio drum kit?) and play a drum kit on it?

  • Yes I believe you can do all that, just get a conveter so you can plug your 1/4 inch jack from Alesis to iPod.

  • @lotoqui thanks.

Also where would you plug your ipod into, because I look in the back of it there are a lot of plugs, but I don't know which one is the one for your ipod? Sorry if this seems to be a dumb question, but I don't really know much about all this stuff.

  • One of the holes at the back of SR-16 is called: OUTOUT (LEFT), take a 1/4inch cable and plug it into that hole, plug the other end of that cable to your iPod. The only problem is iPad has a small jack (hole) so you need to buy a jack conveter to make that 1/4inch same size as the hole in your iPod.

  • @lotoqui Ok Thank You for you help

  • @lotoqui could you also plug in headphones?

  • plug headphones to SR-16? i don't remember SR-16 has a headphone jack, you can't really plug your headphone to the OUTPUT jack because it will blow your headphone

  • I just got a sr-16. but the drum machine only. where do I get everything else at ?

  • What do you mean everything else? All there is in the box are: SR16, Power Cord, Manuel, that's it...

  • @lotoqui midi cord && power cord.

  • you can get the power cord from radio shack, just make sure you get the right one...

same for the medi cord but just so you know, medi cord is not included if buy new but the power cord is.

  • Hi,

Does it come with the power adapter ?

  • Yes my friend, it comes with the power adapter.

  • I have SR 16, will never use presets, fill, etc.I bought this 4 yrs ago and the guy in charge left with no instructions. I Want to program Bo Diddley beat, 2 toms and a kick. Mona, etc. for practice only. I need start to finish, how to record ,add, delete, call up and save, t he beat. as a basis to give me a point of reference. I have A.D.D. the manual is to much information non usable to me. I just want bare bones. HELP PLEASE

  • goggle SR16 manuel and you can fine the manuel :)

  • @lotoqui: Thanks for the response, however I do have the Manual , to much informaion for My A.D.D. issue, not straight forward as much as it would seem to others with my dissabilities.I need straight forward no fills no presets, Something I can program now start to finish, self developedd beat, record, save, add on's later later and recall. Bo Diddley beat such as song Mona or I am a man would give me a place to build on. Start to finish, a, here is how. Help will be ,Greatly appreciated.

  • engrish.

  • Do you know if there is any way to use a trigger with this machine? I know its a drum machine and not a module but my drummer is thinking about getting a trigger for his kick drum and if there is a way to use the kicks off the sr-16 I'd like to know.

  • no i don't think you can use a trigger on this machine.... sorry...

  • Wheres the cheerleader?

  • Its not bad for the price, Very cheap

  • hey i was wondering, how the hell do u plug it into an amp, sofar i am guessing my ports dont work

  • i believe ur guess is right...

you plug one end of ur cord into the OUTPUT (MOMO L) of ur Alesis and then plug the other end of ur cord into the INPUT of ur amp.

  • @lotoqui thanks, im going to have to get another one of these next month and again, thaaaanks

  • Hi lotoqui, I am learning how to set up home studio. I am using Cubase 5 Essential and wonder. Instead of using premade drum sampler, I like to know if Alesis SR-16 Drum works with Cubase 5. Do you know ? Thanks

  • Although Cubase 5 is a sotware but I don't see why not, as long as there is an input to accept the signal from SR16...

  • hahahah this is awesome! you rock

  • no, it can run on both AC and DC

  • You sure can~

  • This is pretty cheap in the uk, £100 from play.com!

And great video man, awesome english dude

  • ha ha, thanks!

  • Does this machine allow you to create your own drum patterns for use in recording for example?

  • Yes.

  • Hi,cool machine.How much was it?

  • around CAD200 Can't remember...

  • thanks great video

  • Thanks for the review - I am thinking about getting this and your video gave me a good idea of how it works. And great English by the way!

  • thanks man!

  • Me Rikee!

  • hi lotoqui: when switching from Pattern A to B with footswtitch, do you have to press the button exactly on time or does the machine do this automatically if your early or late? thx.

  • Machine do it automatically.

  • can you record your own loops with this, ie record into the machine through mic from my instrument, then bank it, then put another beat over the top so that it auto quantises and so on, or can you only use the preset patterns?

  • You can't record your own loops into SR-16 but you can only create a new pattern, however when create a new pattern, I don't think you can mod the existing one and add new beat on top of it, you have to start from 0

  • @soulsnurf @soulsnurf What you're describing can be done with a sampler. There's all kinds of them depending on your price range and needs. I have a Roland SP 555, but those have gone up to about $800 at retail now, and there might be better options now then when I bought mine over a year ago. Korg just came out with a pretty sick MicroSampler that has a keyboard where you can assign samples to it and it will automatically move the pitch of the sample up or down with the keys.

  • Thanks for posting this clip...made learning the basics of the machine very easy!

    Much appreciated!

  • thanks for the quick reply. What type of footswitch are those in the video? Also do you know if a KRK RP5 Rokit Powered Studio Monitor would work?

  • I think any type of studio monitor would work, mean all you need is a speaker. The footswitch I use in this video is M-Audio SP1. Any non latching momentary switch will work.

  • That was a really useful review, thank you. Are the two patterns, and the fill, totally customisable? So if I wanted I could create my own patterns for all 3?

  • If I understand your question correctly, each pattern has it's own two sub-patterns and it's own fill so it's not customisable... You can't use sub-pattern 1 from pattern A on pattern B, same as the fill.

You can sure create your own patterns.

  • what external speaker are you using?

  • I was using Roland Cube15 at the time

  • Very well done. I appreciate your thorough demonstration. Alesis should pay you a percentage! I found my local Guitar Center has one in stock so I am going to go purchase it right now. Thanks again!

  • lol... i wish...

  • Thanks, this was very helpful.

  • Hey man this is a really cool video and it helped a lot. I am thinking about buying one. hahah of subject you remind me of that guy from "Heroes" hahaha

  • lol... i hate to say this, but you are not the first to say that to me....

  • Dude it's a compliment! haha I love that dude.

But your cool as hell man though doin this review.

What kind of music you play?

  • mostly blues and the good old rock n' roll...

  • Can u record on the SR-16??? some1 please awnser

  • I don't think you can because there is no memory in it. I know it says you can create your own drum patterns but I believe SR-16 is looping it instead of actually recording it.

  • helpful video, i bought a used one off ebay, but it didnt come with any leads, my friends lent me a 9V AC adaptor but do i need to plug it into a amlifier or does it just make sound it self? im really comfused please help

  • Yes you do need an amp because there is no speaker in SR-16

  • Does anybody know how to just use this as a clicktrack?

  • i didnt know jackie chan knew drum machines.

  • @imjustdope Only 1%!

  • Yes you can. I have a JamMan so I plug the output from SD16 into the input of JamMan and then record it.

  • Can I loop this to my pedal board If u could answer I would greatly appreciate it

  • glad my clip can help but you can always download the manual from the Alesis' website

  • I just bought a used SR-16 and it did not have a manual. This brief video helped.

  • Do you use latching or non latching foot switches?

  • latching one

  • what is better to buyt the SR-16 or the SR-18??

  • The major difference between the two is SR-18 got better sound quality, I believe SR-18 is 32-bit and SR-16 is 16-bit. Other then that the features are almost the same but SR-18 cost way more then SR-16, like $150-200 more...

  • shut up and play us some samples. a minute in and all i want to do is hear the damn thing

  • if you just want to hear the damn thing, i suggest you give this a try: go type DRUM SOLO at YouTube search, you can hear the damn thing play for more then 3mins.

I would give you the link but for some reasons, it didn't allow me to type the web address here...

  • i just got one of these from my dad n i'm havin some problems

can you do one on hip hop beats?

  • good review !

  • I have composed my song with programmed beats and fills, then pressed the perform button, then the play button; the digital window shows the song playing, but no sound. What am I doing wrong?

  • Today i ve just bought a new one!! check out my first sample.

  • one question. can u make ur own custom beats on this?

  • Yes you sure can!

  • Very thorough review! Thanks.

  • thanks for the info i will check them out. very good video thank you .

  • what type of amp are you using ? I just bought one and i dont even know how to set it up. I wish someone would do a video on how to set it up and show how to do a basic beat.

  • That's what this video is for! Anyway the amp is Roland 15

  • Thanks, man.

  • What is the model of the footswitches are using? greetings

  • M-Audio SP-1 Sustain Pedal

  • Comment removed

  • hahaahha :D

  • yeah man thanks. rock on.

  • Can I do double bass pedal on this? is it possible? For like Metal playing. particularly THrash metal.

  • I don't think so unless you want to create your own drum pattern

  • Well I do want to create my own pattern, Does it still work good for that?

  • It shoudn't be that hard... I've been meaning to make another clip on how to create your own pattern but I got tie up with other stuff. I will make that clip within a week or so...

  • Awesome Thanks

  • @PoliticalDestruction the main use of the machine imo is making your own drum patterns.. the presets are just tere for the hell of it. it would be great for thrash patterns

  • Alright awesome thanx, i gotta get one hahaha

  • can you store your patterns in it for later, does it have internal memory? and can you lay out like an entire song with it at once for practice purposes, like: intro verse chorus verse chorus etc...

  • Comment removed

  • No, You DO NOT need a computer. You "put together" patterns in the SR16 to create 'songs' within the SR16. Patterns are easily created from scratch or simply modify one of the 198 presets available.

  • As for setting a "Time Signature" . According to my manual, this has to be done by "adding or subtracting beats in a measure" Page 14 in the manual.

    3/4 time signature is possible.

  • Comment removed

  • Yes, it has internal memory for storing user created patterns. Yes, you can also program it to change patterns for song arrangements. I've recorded many songs using only this machine for the last 10 years, and it's fantastic, especially for the price.

  • awesome thanks bro

so for like a 4/4 pattern you can program in a verse fill for 4 times and then switch to a chorus fill 4 time etc. ?

  • Yep. Even though one of my projects now has an actual drummer, all of my recorded material here on YouTube features the SR-16. Too bad that some of the audio is super-compressed by YT, otherwise you could hear how great this machine sounds.

  • Yes, you absolutely can do double bass. There are also 49 different bass drums to choose. You can tune each drum as well.

  • I have a friend who has one, and he says that he cannot get a 3/4 beat pattern on it. Like a waltz.

    Any comment?

  • It's not in the manuel for sure unless your friend creating his own pattern...

  • Very informative! You should do more of these Demos. Greetings from Vienna! DKDU

  • this clip is about 9mins long but i think it actually tool me 90mins to record... no more demo for now...

  • This demo pretty much only shows how to play the presets, or the built in drum patterns w/c is easy, even those cheap 90 bucks keyboards have those. What is more needful to know is how to build a beat from scratch.

  • Really useful clip and very thoughtfully presented. Rock on Lotoqui ;-)

  • thanks man!

  • no problem, enjoy your SR16

  • TONS OF INFO!!! THANKS SOOO MUCH!! Im problably going to buy it now too! so Alesis can thank you too!

  • Glad you found my clip useful. SR-16 is very easy to operate as long as you don't get to the design your own drum pattern part...

  • Thanks for the info, dude. Was planning on getting one of these from craigslist tomorrow, but wasn't sure how it would handle fills. Should do all I need it to quite easily!
