  • Most darskinned people especially in the states have this issue.Carribean people dont really have this problem in mass numbers like america.Africans treat me real nasty and short and i catch them staring at my skin alot.Darkies are fucked up in the head.Cant say that i care they dislike me or sabotage me behind me back...ive learned to stay away. Its really sad.

  • OMG i thought i was the only one in the world that would compare my hand with another persons and try to see who was lighter. lmao. im brown skin tho.

  • thanks for being brave enough to talk about this issue...in my fam everyone is light skinned so i never understood the light/dark skinned issue until i got outside of the house...this stuff is real serious and ppl can be ruthless when it comes to sumthin as simple as skin tone

  • People associate being darkskinned black with being african and africans by most people are seen as being backwards, primitive, violent, etc.Thats the main issue and then reality is the tv and media is dominated by white people worldwide almost and they put white features on a pedestal and when they feature blacks its usually darkerskinned in negative light (especially the males) and lighterskinned is almost always positive lights(especially the females)Even when its black authored media.

  • This was a great video. I am of dark complexion, but my parents (especially my mother) always made a special name like "hey little pretty chocolate daughter of mine" or "dark and lovely." It kind of hurt hearing others say negative comments about you, and take it to heart not know as a kid they only did it: to make themselves look good, because others were saying it to them (most of the people were dark skin), or because you had something in you they wanted for themselves.

  • I really appreciate this video. I am "light" and my brothers are "dark'. My boyfriend is chocolate and I am totally addicted to his color. I think it is beautiful.

  • Dude, take off that stupid hat and braids. It's 2010, get a new style.

  • @visionimagify Wow, you're a cornball homie..don't worry about what I'm doing in 2010, thanks

  • @visionimagify ...and furthermore of course you have no videos of your own, this is youtube not youspeak, get outta here with that.

  • its jus your t zone (4head, nose, and chin) a lot of ppl have issues w/ oily t-zones its not that bad.. i always jus rub my 4head for dear life and jus smile for the pic

  • When are we going to realize that color doesn't matter. A persons color means nothing. There is good and bad in all colors. When it comes to black women, I believe the darker the better. Dark women are gorgeous. Just look around at the advances black people have made, it should make us all proud to be American.

  • I can tell you that this light skinned boy way prefers dark skinned men.

  • The soap you are using for your face may be too harsh which will make your sebaceous glands overreact. You may want to use an oil-free moisturizer and witch hazel toner after washing...and cameras were not calibrated for darker skinned people...seriously, which is why lighting is soooo important for us. Always turn towards a light source and as for the oil, sop it up with a cloth or tissue, man.....We women call it "powdering our noses"...ALL women with T-zone issues do it...it's not unusual.

  • Do you know how beautiful you are though? You have very thoughtful eyes, a beautiful complexion and the voice...magnifique.

My complexion is VERY DEEP. I was also a print model and makeup artist in NYC. It's not grease, my dear, it's your YOUTH POTION. As a makeup artist that youth potion gives black models longevity. You know the white models skin starts age when they hit about 20. The texture of their skin becomes loose and delicate hence an industry filled with 14 year old white models.

  • I am a dark skinned black female and growing up I went through hell. I would always dye my hair light, wear contacts and try to stay out of the sun. I would tell people that the under side of my arm was my real color. I went through this because I was always called names being dark skinned and honestly it came from other dark skinned people. Now I nip that ish in the bud when someone comes to me with it.

  • All of my dark skinned cousins that beat up on my baby dark skinned cousins at the time, all have white or hispanic mates now. What does that tell you?

  • When I was young I would see my older dark skinned cousins beating up on my dark skinned baby cousins. I was to little to stop it but I tried, they would always pick up the biracial babies & hug & kissed them & show them love but they would beat & yell at the dark skinned babies. When I was younger I did not understand it, it just did not make since 2 me. Now that I am an adult I can save a dark skin child now from self hating people. Bc I can tell who has the self hate disease right away now.

  • i'm not very light and not very dark (some black folks call my complexion "clear") but growing up i was constantly told that i was "dark" and "black" or "ugly", that my nappy hair was "bad" hair. only after i got older and befriended blacks/hebrews from other countries that i was able to let go of those issues. now i'm fine with my complexion, my nappy locks and i give MUCH RESPECT AND LOVE to my dark-skinned sistahs - WHO ARE BEAUTIFUL TOO! color oppression is a tool of "divide & conquer!

  • Yes I have a very oily face......The great advantage of oily skin is that it ages at a slower rate than other skin types. Just use oil-free moisturizers

  • I came across your video and was wondering why do u guys care so much about your shades i am not black btw to let you know. to a non black person if your black your black no matter what shade is. weather if its light to almost white or dark black everyone outside your ethnicity will care less. just be yourself and live on everyone is beautiful. its the blacks against the blacks i notice this and i can say the world is changing everyday lifes too short to be worrying about things like that

  • @luvorange1 > that's nice in theory. I don't mean to offend but, the reality is people outside our ethnicity might not mind but they don't live our houses, go to our churches or school, or our blocks, etc. It's easy to say it shouldn't matter when you're outside the race (and it SHOULDN'T) but for now, people inside the race treat others inside the race in our homes, schools, etc act like it does. It matters to those of us who get called "too dark" or "too light." It matters because it hurts.

  • @JayneMariefromDet What does too dark or too light mean? Too dark or too light for what?

These are only opinions of some people, but they don't hold water they are only one mans opinion. The color of a persons skin has nothing to do with the type of person they are. Personally I think Dark skin is beautiful.

  • I have very oily T-zone. 1st, the oil is good for ur skin. However, I can understand not wanting to be greasy. Here's what u do. Get milk of magnesia, I get Equate brand version of Phillip's @ walmart. Shake it up, put a lil on a cotton ball or on finger tip and smooth over areas that tend to get oily. Let dry for a few mins and if u get a white film, just wipe off wit fingers or towel.

  • I'm dark-skinned and I too have the "greasy face". It's actually because we produce more oil on our faces. It can be a blessing because people with oily skin won't produce wrinkles as much as others and the fact that we're dark (more melanin), we also won't age as fast as other complexions.

  • you look like peter tosh

  • i think you are cute and I am white the way i see it is its whats inside a person that counts its not the color of their skin its the person.

  • I'm from the south and my family on one side happens to be light while the other side happens to be dark. I'm dark and my light family members would make comments but I never let it bother me. I like who I am and how I look.

  • i think your cute. i think choclate/dark skinned men are sexy... thats just my opinion though =)

  • you wanna know something, it never changes for dark skin tone Sistahs, matter of fact it can get worse. willie lynch did a hellava job on blk males, with thier color struck selves and the dark tone male are worse than the lighter tone half the time, anyway all men get a pass on what is considered an accepted look, an ppl should stop comparing acne, being gay, even height, see a persons skin color is what it will always be, we happy with it but society wants to make sure you get uncomfortable

  • Oh alot of black people have oily skin, my advice is to use a clacy mask every once in a while and carry oil sheets for your skin throug the day. you can get it them from a drug store. Also just wash your face after riggerous activities or if your feeling hot.=) hope this woeks for you! -SydonneD.

  • It sucks so much that insecurities exist! You're really cool to talk about them. I'm not dark-skinned, but I can relate -- I have always had insecurities about my looks and features. It's sad that things like dark skin, red hair, freckles, being tall, being short, etc. can become huge sources of insecurity. Our society needs to change some more, and I really hope to see that happen in my lifetime.

  • Breaks my heart 2 know there're so many ppl who were made 2 feel bad @ a young age. I'm looking @ u and I think u have great features. Nice eyes, lips, nose and beautiful skin! It's so even and flawless. I'm sorry for the morons who think that skin color determines attractiveness. Features make you attractive not complexion. It's messed up that some blacks have internalized a racist way of thinking. I hate to say this but I'm sometimes embarrassed to be black b/c of this mentality.

  • HA! dude you should be lucky your a man.. try being a dark skinned woman!! the shit is nearly impossible... Especially wit lil wayne and every other rapper saying that they wanna light skinned so and so with long hair and green eyes.. hell they got one lil dude that says he doesnt do dark butts its crazy!

  • Lol I thought I was the only one that really notice that in his lyrics..........

  • When you said the greasy nose thing, I almost cracked up because when I was young, I used to LOVE rubbing baby oil on it so it got all shiny and sparkly. Lol, I thought it was cute. Btw, i don't live in the US so maybe I am not getting this issue but I was the only black kid in my school from primary school until i graduated and funnily enough I never had a complex. People would say horrible things but I was always like whatever. My point is don't worry about it, I think your skin is great ;)

  • I actually have what I call dark skin envy. I'm the lightest person in my immediate family and outside of them i have like an aunt and a couple of cousins who have the same complexion as I do, but my family is HUGE (over 30 first cousins alone) so only having about 3 or 4 family members isn't much of nothing. So I've always admired dark complexion on men and women. So continue to love your skin b/c i'm sure there are others like me who wish they had it.

  • You are so sobering and honest. Thanks so much.

  • Actually my mother said I was 2 black Yes my mother I love her but she did say this.... I am a few shades lighter than you are and my mother said this 2 me but I always knew that BLACK is Beautiful and I still know it is ... People may not say this but many African Americans think white is better or lighter skin is better because people have brain washed them all I have 2 say is ignorance is really BLISS....People love your skin because u can't change it.....

  • aw baby shiny skin is great!i put mineral oil allllll over my body!

  • LOL...I hear ya on everthing you said, I've been there and been apart of that...I really have had a rough time with niggaz sayin' or rankin "you a black ass nigaa" or try to say something of that nature, but I've never had a problem with the ladies, and I've had some very nice lookin ones mostly light skin (hatin to brag). I think us dark niggaz have alot of advantages bro...when I was in the Air Force and went overseas it's the total opposite...darkskinned was the main attraction

  • AND...........

  • i apploud you for being open and honest about your experience because people think the whole color complex thing doesn't effect men but it does, and especially at a young age where many girls fawn over light-skinned boys refering to them as "pretty boys" when a brown or dark-skinned guy can be even better looking but not given his props because of his skin tone, the problem IS VERY deep rooted and even in 2009 there are ADULTS who still carry one, i honestly don't when this will stop : (

  • Your right, but I guess the problem will stop when parents start telling their children how beautiful they are from young

  • ur fine!

  • Insecure about your skin tone??? Boy , don't you know u got that chocolate. haha

Neways thanks for the video. Unusual for men to come here and talk about it so openly.

  • Sadly, I used to target people darker than me and make jokes about them... I (i didn't have much room to talk) I remember one corny thing I said. I told a dark skinned girl that when she takes a bath the water turns to Tea....In elementary school that was bad...I feel mean now.

  • lmao @ Tea...but I know how it is, I used to look for an excuse to call someone darker than me...quick ego booster...bad conditioning I tell you

  • A damn mess i know...

  • I liked this video very much as it reminded me of my own experience when i was younger altho mine is reversed. I always thought my skin was darker than it was and when a class mate said to me i was brown skin when i was 15 ,i remember feeling very offended by her comment. For years i actually felt confused. I think it's because the majority of my family and friends are alot darker then me. I love my dark skinned brotha's sister's and every other shade of brown out there. Respect.

  • MAN WHO U TELLIN? i used to not go outside when the sun was out due to me not wanting to get dark. I had to literally give myself a reality check and READ myself about the negativitiy i was bringing to myself. People made jokes, but i had to really look at myself and never realized how SEXY dark skin is. Especially if u got white teeth LOL We dark skinned folk have history. Were tough, were strong, beautiful, and rich on ther inside, I love my dark skin/roots. i wouldnt change it. EVER

  • I agree, we've put ourselves through such EXTREMES....for what? nothing at all so it just goes to show that awareness is the first step to rebuilding yourself into a better person from one issue to another...Thanks for watching!

  • I love how you stepped up and said your part about dark-skinned complexed people or being dark-skin yourself. I am beautiful and dark-skinned. Check out my facebook page. Anyway, all my years of dating, I've only dated dark skinned men, love them to death. i am Nigerian-American, so most of my family is dark-skinned. I'm proud to say, I never bleached my skin, I use Palmer's cocoa butter! HOLLA! No offense, to my light-skinned people, but WE"RE BACK! My name is Miracle.

  • Thank you, I felt it was something I should put out there...its not really talked about and I know it was a big part of my childhood. Now I truly embrace it. Thanks for the comment, I'll check out your facebook.

  • I got teased alot for being dark when I was young. Sad thing was it was done by friends and family members! I had no choice but to deal with it because they were my family and my only "friends". I think I repressed the thoughts then and they are now starting to get to me. Maybe because I'm just really starting to understand how the "real world" /society works. And yes, I have oiliness in my t-zone. I put on a little powder though.

  • yea as a chld and until 13 i was very light but after i started to be more and more dark and now am almost like u, well maybe like u and yea it gave me a few dumb issues llol but who gives a fuck afterall, were black wtf lol and this greasy nose thing happens sometimes yea

  • We women have the advantage of wearing makeup. The only other solution I have to help you cut down on a greasy or shiny complexion is to carry blotting paper or rice paper sheets. I know this advice sounds really metrosexual but I guess it all depends on how much it bothers you. If it's any consolation I think you look handsome shiny nose or not.

  • Aww Thanks, believe it or not lately I have not been experiencing it at all...not sure why?

  • black folks period ..we can really eat each up over that damn complexion & feature shit. especially during childhood. I was constantly picked on for being light and for having a broad nose, I remember trying to figure out what the hell was going on b/c the people that would terrorize me & call me Ms Piggy had a nose just like me. lol I aint gon lie, it took me a MINUTE to get over that mess.

  • kids are cruel and it could leave a deep scar , maybe even a permanent one if not dealt with, but im glad you deal with it

  • I am dark skinned, hated it when I was younger because I lived in an all white neighborhood - and would occaisonally forget about color at all until someone would "remind" me. Now I am chocolate crazy! And that chocolate includes the oil - who wants dry chocolate!?

  • Well I'm so glad you explained it that way, I'll embrace my oily chocolate lol.

  • im definatley doing a video response to this one.

  • :) das wassupp!

  • we all black people have to deal with that especially in high school. shit people would consider me light and my nose be dumb shiny 2. dont worry about it that is all black ppl. usually its the lotion we use cuz natural lotion and oil dont do that stuff but this regular white folks lotion makes u shiny like keri and all of those. but"light skinned" people deal with the same shit cuz most of the time they want to be darker.

  • I'm starting to notice that I'm just so used to seeing or rather hearing dark skin folks talking about wanting to be lighter but then again I guess its them same when a lighter person boast about having a tan

  • WEll I'm the lightest one in my family. They all make fun of me. Say I'm adopted. I think its funny because I used to think I was light skinned. Then some light skinned people put me in my place. I floated aimlessly in the abyss for a minute only to realize I was black. And black is black.

I get the oily everything too. The nose is really the black feature thing where it is that we tend to have the broader surface area (me especially). But if its that extra little slick surface that is.......

  • ....keeping me from getting skin cancer then I'll embrace it as a gift from my ancestors. Secrete away oh fair skin.

LOL I sound like one of those brothers on the 3 train preaching about the second coming. But thats real.

  • Wow you took it to the 3 train brota!!! lol

  • I'm in between. I never made fun of dark skinned kids because I knew it would hurt their feelings but it wasn't until I had this conversation with most of the light skinned people I know that I realized they got it real bad. Even into adulthood people would jokingly call them yellow etc. I did it myself not thinking they took it seriously. Needless to say I stopped.

  • idk y my comments keep disappearing but it seems u got it via email r something i might try to post it again later so ignore that

  • lol. no numbers behind my name. isn't that crazy what we subconsciously or even consciously pick up from society and hold as true. i was a little different when i was younger. i wanted to be darker, still do. back in elementary school i would put vasaline on my legs and go out in the back yard trying to tan. i think that smoothe, dark complexion is so sexy. big up urself. . . as far a shiny face, lol, get a face wash and face lotion for oily skin. u'll b aiight

  • Lol, Thanx! I've had a couple pple tell me they want to be darker and it kinda throws me off because I'm so used to back in the day and dark skin considered to be negative so I guess theres always two sides to every story
