With a little research David Wolfe would discover that it was not the Hopi that Kit Carson attacked and destroyed their trees. It was the Navajo tribe that suffered the invasion of their lands by Kit Carson. In the 1950s, the U.S. government planted Russian Olive trees creating an environmental disaster. On the desert landscape, Russian Olives became a weed using water needed by native plants and trees. So, there is a need to cut and remove these trees from the Hopi and Navajo reservations.
