"yoga" means unity at its source. in the western world full of mental and emotional suppressions, it's difficult to experience unity, especially when yoga is taught as an exercise. yoga is a technique, just as are many meditation techniques. ultimately only a witnessing consciousness can liberate the being. yoga helps to balance the inner energies so witnessing can happen easier, but to know what is in the depth of ones unconsciousness yoga practice alone without self-awareness is not enough.
not too sure if you know 'yoga' and its deeper experience to comment on it through not knowing enough of this subject. perhaps it is your observation of the forms of 'yoga' in the west that you may have practiced that you feel gives ample wisdom on yoga entirely.
after attaining the luminous radiance in the seeking of light, the luminous can be spoken about as experience.
