  • 15 years after, I still have perfectly this music in my head

  • best 2d shooter ever

  • poor master system is so underrated

  • do you have the FM version of this?

  • I played Super R-Type on the SNES... same game just upgraded visuals and audio. Such an awesome game

  • This game uses chip FM on japanese Master System/Mark 3 for better sound quality

  • I thought Chris Hülsbeck made the music to R-Type...

But whatever. Koji Kondo, Chris Hülsbeck, Rob Hubbard, Martin Galway... great composers, we won't forget them.

  • awesome

  • I know I have one of the later R-Types, but I never got around to playing it. Listening to this video, though, really makes me want to crack out that game and compare it to this one. Amazing stuff.

  • I sure missed the bosses' song. It's the best in the game, almost heavy metal.

  • love these songs. especially the last one. whats the of it

  • now this game did some freaking good music for 8 bits.

  • HA this is one of the tracks tha Machiane supremacy used in one of their songs XD

  • this is the best r-type, in my humble opinion. sega master system.

  • Yeah, think so too.

  • Phantays Star, R-type, and Wonder Boy 3 are the three best games for the sms! Thanks for the upload! :-)

  • This game defined my life on the sega master system. Brings back wonderful memories.

Think i'll pick it up on PSN.

  • ... It's on the PSN!? :D

  • Hellz yeah!

Its R-Types on psn. It has both r-type and r-type II. And its only 5.99.

And Delta is on there too.

  • ORLY? Is it available in Europe?

  • Not sure. I know its on American and Jap stores.

Pretty sure Delta is on Euro store.

  • r-type (zx spectrum version) was my first video game...great

  • Just FYI, Compile is the developer of the SMS version.

  • Cool, thanks.

  • I prefer the TG-16 version myself. Still, impressive that the SMS can handle a port of this game.

  • I've wanted to feature the original arcade version for a while now, but since I can't seem to track it down, I might look into the TG16 one.

  • i didn't know there's an older r-type lol! 1988!!! whoo!

  • R-Type, the Android Assault of its time!

  • GREAT

  • nice

  • Please... would you tell me the name of the last track?

    It's really beautiful!

  • Its the bonus level track, only on the SMS version of r-type. the level is in the 4th stage.

  • Through the audio test cheat I got to know not so long ago.

Thanks for taking the time to tell me anyway.

  • Just as a 'heads up', Chris Hülsbeck only composed the intro themes for the C64 and Amiga versions, mate.

Absolutely fantastic series of videos you've got here. Many thanks! :)

  • Thanks man. Happen to know who the main composer actually is by any chance?

  • Masato Ishizaki

  • Nice, thanks.

  • did this come out before Gradius? or was it a bad knock-off?

  • They both had really cool music...

    Check gamespot...

  • R-type was released in 1987, Gradius in 1985 but R-type is a classic in it's own right.

  • r-type is mine all time favorite shoot em ups and nice music and i have the game on the sega master system.

  • If I had this game when I was young, I'd probably get creeped out every time I heard that scary intro music. Music pretty nice here.

  • You should have gone with the NES version in my opinion. It sounded the best for what kind of soundtrack it was.

  • There is no NES version of R-Type

  • SEGA always had a worse sounding audio chip. Ugh. Nice game though regardless.
