Me, TJ and the comment below me have something in common. I'm 14 and i don't care what people think about me. I like telling people that I'm an atheist so that i can laugh at their minor knowledge of their own religion and their irrational stupid replies on how they can prove god.
I love telling people I'm Atheist, its best when they're devoutly religious, the response always reminds me of the double-rainbow guy - It just reads 'What does this mean?' haha :)
@monmondr3 the majority of people are just default christian, they 'leave that box ticked' so they fit in. Idk how it is globally but here in the uk religion is disappearing. No one believes in that fucking trash anymore.. Watching this video makes me laugh at how it is in the us, coming out as an atheist is treated as if you're coming out as gay.
I often wonder how many closet Atheists there are in the world. I'd imagine a fair few. If they could reveal themselves simultaneously, it might rattle a few cages.
@isolate92 In 2009, 2.04% of the world was atheist and 9.42% was non-religious which is just agnostic and such. I really doubt the number has jumped from 2.04% to 14% in just 3 years.

Especially if you factor in those who have the courage to come out about their lack of belief, as well as those children who were denied the ability to admit it because of parental oppression becoming adults and able to admit it, as well as the fact that religion membership as a whole is on the decline and has been for some time .. it's extremely possible, and even likely.

i told my mom and dad i was an atheist 2 years ago. sure they got mad at me when i told them but after a couple months they respected it. your parents love you no matter what happens.

If i don't, you have your standard excuse of me not being sincere enough. The problem is that sincerity cannot be measured, and thats another reason why this is an ineffective way of determining the likeliness of gods existence. If you want to prove the existence of god, you need something measurable.

@lewiss1100 I'm not talking about measuring God himself, but surely he has to have measurable effects in our reality and our lives if he exists and supposedly meddles with our affairs on a daily basis. If you can demonstrate such a measurable effect, and prove that it originates from God, then you have a case. Otherwise us non-believers have no choice but to conclude that it's all in your head. Reality is complex, and religion gives simple answers, that are easily accepted by uncritical minds.

my home town was crazy, the majority where catholic and christian, any other religion was automatically shunned and from what I remember there was a like maybe 3 Jewish family's and everyone would tag their houses and throw rocks through their windows, who knows what would have happened if someone came out saying if they where atheist/agnostic

If someone asks me I'll surely tell them. If it comes up in conversation I'll just say it. BUT, my mother makes me go to church so I pretty much keep quite there except during youth class. In youth class I openly express my opinion about how sick the god of the bible is and the like. But since I was so involved in the church only a year ago, I think they still believe I'm a christian but I'm just a little back sliden. There trying to get the "fire" back into me that I had before. One cannot choose to believe a certain way. If i tell you i have a dragon in my bedroom, even though all evidence suggests otherwise, you cannot simply choose to believe it, can you? You can say so, but you still know that it isn't so.

If i don't, you have your standard excuse of me not being sincere enough. The problem is that sincerity cannot be measured, and thats another reason why this is an ineffective way of determining the likeliness of gods existence. If you want to prove the existence of god, you need something measurable.

@lewiss1100 I'm not talking about measuring God himself, but surely he has to have measurable effects in our reality and our lives if he exists and supposedly meddles with our affairs on a daily basis. If you can demonstrate such a measurable effect, and prove that it originates from God, then you have a case. Otherwise us non-believers have no choice but to conclude that it's all in your head. Reality is complex, and religion gives simple answers, that are easily accepted by uncritical minds.

If someone asks me I'll surely tell them. If it comes up in conversation I'll just say it. BUT, my mother makes me go to church so I pretty much keep quite there except during youth class. In youth class I openly express my opinion about how sick the god of the bible is and the like. But since I was so involved in the church only a year ago, I think they still believe I'm a christian but I'm just a little back sliden. There trying to get the "fire" back into me that I had before.
