Tons of these trucks come in the land fill where i work dropping off loads all the time. Any toyota form the 80s i have seen and there are only about 3 or 4 that come have wooden home made beds.
At the end when he says "An '84 pickup at an '83 price", I laughed out loud. $5993 for a truck... wow. My 1992 Silverado (Regular cab, V-6) cost $12,000 brand new. My uncle has a 2009 Ford F-150 that cost $48,000 - Trucks are not what they used to be. The dang thing is so plush and pretty it will never see dirt, gravel, mud or deer camp... almost wrong to call it a TRUCK.
There are rarely any old Chevy's on the road, especially compared to the number of old Ford's on the road. I see more Model A's and Model T's then 1500's.
What I meant by it was that I have rarely seen any older model Chevy's riding around town. I have seen more 91' F150's out pulling machines and such, then 91' Chevy 1500's. I have driven both, and the only truck I trust in my fleet is a Ford. From the 150 to the 650 and above, Ford is better than Chevy period.
And besides, your 14 so STFU, you can't even drive let alone judge.
@18CRS i've done my homework. i can agree that the older 150s like the models you've shown me are real trucks. i was refering back to the 1997-present models. personal experience has NOTHING to do with reliability other than your reliability story. mine, i mean my cousins, has a 1987 chevy blazer with 543,000 miles with second motor and third tranny. sure, not a comfy ride like ford, but it lasts like a rock
And what I'm saying is that the 79 has only had the tranny replaced, nothing else! Except general maintenance of course. My 81 would smoke that shitty Blazer any day of the week.
@18CRS the 79 is a diesel right? international engine i bet...those things are reliable. the blazer is a SUV and its nothing compared to the size of your 81. for a blazer that has a 4.3 that last that long, thats quite an achievement.
Believe me, I'm not saying 500,000 miles is not an achievement, but anything smaller than a 5.0 I am not surprised when it has that many miles on it. I mean, my neighbors first car was a early 90's Saturn and had 250,000 miles on it, and it was treated like shit before he got it. Size also has nothing to do with it.
@18CRS well what im saying is diesels tend to last longer than traditional combustion engines. your truck is a great example. chevy does well in their combustion vortec engines but their duramax sucks.
And by the way, I have nothing against you, or Chevy, if its American, it's fine. I'm just simply stating that durability wise, Chevy cannot stand up to a Ford.
I have a vid of my 81 F150 by the way, if you want to check it out.
@18CRS then why does chevy honor the warranty if you use the 1500 for snow plowing but the ford f150 does not. Ford says you have to buy the f250 if you want to use your truck for plowing and keep the warranty. What happened to "built ford tough".
It's because the Super Duty includes the plow package as a standard feature. Most people won't buy a 4x4 1500 or F150 for plowing anyways, and you know that.
Besides, they give you a warranty if you buy the package through Ford on an F150, so get your facts straight.
I owned a 1984 4WD Ranger with the old 2.8V6. NOT the 2.9EFI, this was the old 2.8 with adjustable valves. I flogged this truck for 12 years without any major problems. I even taught my daughter to drive stick shift in it. Yes, the engine rattled, the interior fell to pieces and it was nick named "the rolling dent". When I sold it in 1997 it had 312,000 miles on it!
This truck with the 4cyl. was one of the most underpowered trucks I have ever test driven! The Toyota I eventually bought could run rings around this snail from Ford....
well lets see do the math. Ford outsells toyota in pickups always has. And how many japanese trucks do you see onthe road from the 80s. They all turned to rust! I'll take the 4 cyl Ranger anyday you can't kill it.
my ranger is a beast! I can tow more then many people think and it never bogs down. Love the thing to death. Id rather a torquey snail then a load of jap crap that rusts from the frame out...
@Lumotaku My 19888 4runner is still on the road. Apart from it not passing emissions cause it needs an exhaust, and I have no job at 14 and cant afford to replace it. Toyota way outlasts Ford.
@compaqeo ? My 4runner only has a rotted out exhaust, thats it. No rush on the Body, Chassis, ect. And unlike the domestics at the time, it uses a highly rigid Fully boxed chassis. Not to mention the Pickup/4runner looks alot better than Ranger/Bronco II.
@Motorfordtoyota Clearly you dont get snow where you live. the toyota frames rust behind the rear spring hanger because there boxed, the water with salt goes in and stays in and isnt as easily washed out. and the 79-82 toyota trucks yes they look better then the rangers but the 83-88 rangers look better then the other years of yota's. The 4runner looks WAY better then the bronco 2 though all years.
im not hating on the toyota because go wheeling with them and there pretty hardcore.
@compaqeo Yes I live in an aera where the only reason you get rust is because your car is 80 years old and you never waxed not once. Or you went Boggin , got mud in your frame and underside, and never washed it out, causing rust. But I just prefer Toyota, although my GrandFather's 91 or so Ranger 4.0l has about 150k and still has 100% perfect compression in all 6 cylinders. Cool.
Having a Toyota in my area sucks ass, I only see Fords, or Dodges, older chevys are going down the drain. However, that being said, my buddys parents have a 4runner with a turbo diesel in it, and they also have a 2001 F250 Super Duty with the 7.3 in it
They are both at cost level the same to replace u joints and ball joints, its just how they are now
Almost every other truck in my town is a toyota its the fords and chevys that are rusting in peoples front lawns. and you can kill a 4cyl ranger all you have to do is drive the damn thing.
@Lumotaku Here in California i see waaaayyy more Nissan,Toyota and Mazda trucks from the 1980s than Ford Rangers still on the road.I see a decent amount of Ford F-150s from the 1980s still on the highways. Rangers from the 80s are rare.
@Lumotaku sorry but I haven't seen a first gen Ranger or Bronco II on the road in years (let alone a first gen Tempo or Escort), whereas I'll still *occasionally* see '80s Toyota pickups plucking around.
@kz1000ps I see a lot of both. Never see first gen Tempos or Escorts, though, but everyone in the world knows those things all died before the new gen even came out. Except for the one one of my friends had... it died when the right front wheel came off under braking.
@donbehatin Ouch! I hated those POS Tempos...the Contour seemed like a godsend by comparison.
I should also disclose that I live in one of them durn liberal elite commie bastard fascist (did I get them all?) cities in the northeast, where imports greatly out-number domestics, so that is definitely skewering my impression.....
