I checked it out. This is a fake petition from Frederick Seitz. The guy is a fraud. He has denied science in a number of cases including that tobacco smoke causes cancer. This petition is is completely laughable. By their own admission, only 39 out of the 31,487 are actual climatologists, and they didn't even have a way to verify the credentials of the respondents.

Last year tied with 2005 as the world's warmest year on record (official tracking began in 1880). Regarding global temperatures for winter alone, last year (winter ending in Feb 2010) was the fifth warmest on record (1.15°F above the 20th-century average). Both of my stats come from the National Climatic Data Center.

Whether it's factually correct, consistent with what's been said previously, logical, all boils down to who said it. Media matters will never ever get anything correct, even if it's just a video compilation of Limbaugh contradicting himself, because Limbaugh will tell them it's edited & doctored.

I don't think the scientific community is as unified on the issue of global warming as Cenk likes to believe. Instead of talking of behalf of 99% of the scientists out there you would do better to quote or point to reliable sources like review journals. I don't like how global warming has become an oversimplified political issue. Politicians should not be telling us what is and ins't going on in the environment; they are not specialists on the issue. That's what scientists are for.

I checked it out. This is a fake petition from Frederick Seitz. The guy is a fraud. He has denied science in a number of cases including that tobacco smoke causes cancer. This petition is is completely laughable. By their own admission, only 39 out of the 31,487 are actual climatologists, and they didn't even have a way to verify the credentials of the respondents.
