Its pretty amazing that the Ferrari 3.6lt n/a engine can keep up (by a car length anyway) with a Porsche 3.6lt turbo! I guess ownership costs are likely to be far less with the Porsche, but the Ferrari is always the ultimate goal if you can afford a weekend only car. We see both these cars race in Aussie GT, pretty evenly matched.
@MangoSmoothie16@MangoSmoothie16 no your right on that they dont have it but lets face it Ferrari is moving on do i wish they had a 6 Spd? Yes of course, but when 95% of F430 owners wanted the F1 transmission can u blame them for scrapping it? And if you want a good source i suggest Fastest Laps website if u love cars like me youll love this website they have some great info!
I would prefer 996GT3 over the Turbo as -many people are misunderstanding this- a naturally aspirated engine mostly more fun and feels more "precise" than a supercharged or turbocharged, also the sound is better. If you dont believe-i have driven Porsche 964 RS (260hp) and 964 turbo 2 (320 hp). The handling is totally different and i dont know any petrolhead you would the choose the Turbo over an RS and GT3 or any naturally aspired engine of the same power. Try it and you will see for your own.
I am glad the 360 did so well. Keep in mind the 911 got 4WD and Turbo (which can be adjusted for test too....) The result is very close and i am wondering the 911 should have done better. I owned a 911 now a Ferrari. You cant compare. Porsche often is faster but Ferrari way, way more fun to drive as their engines are more lively.
@MangoSmoothie16 :yeah right you are offending people you dont know. tthats typical on youtube. i am working as a safety driving insructor, i wonder wht your profession and skills are....
@mk2007al If you drove a Porsche then a Ferrari, you should know the Porsche is more lively and fun to drive. A Ferrari is a status symbol. Except the 458.
@MangoSmoothie16 : Can't you accept that people's taste are different? I am not a fan of Porsche Turbos but i love Porsche RS. Turbo lacks of the pure feeling. It isnt straight line speed what defines a sportscar. Its boy talk who ist faster. There will be a more faster car everywhere. So i hope you will someday drive a 996 Turbo and thereafer a 996 GT3 and you probably will think again "which is more fun". If you do like straight line speed you will get it more cheap by a Crvette (no offense)
@mk2007al GT3 RS 4.0 is my dream car. I don't like turbos either. I'm not a fan of corvettes. Maybe you do find ferraris more exciting. Seeing as the closest Ill get to either is realistically a Cayman R, I would never know. I do prefer engines in the back though. And a manual gearbox. Ferrari doesnt really offer either.
@MangoSmoothie16 :yeah right you are offending people you dont know. tthats typical on youtube. i am working as a safety driving instructor, i wonder wht your profession and skills are....
The Gallardo sits next to the Ferrari and the Porsche one row back. There are those who hate Ferraris because many idiots buy them, but as a car to drive they are fantastic no question.
They are indeed excellent to drive and that noise mmmm.... That small amount of time between things going wrong in a ferrari is a very good driving experience.
Porsche use 3,6 liter twin turbo engine and AWD transmission , Ferrari uses a 3,6 liter normally aspirated and RWD transmission. The difference in accelaration is minimal. Why they don't use a naturally aspirated 3.6 liter 911 (996) carrera for the test with the Modena ? The mighty porsche need a turbo to keep up against passion crap ?
Ok so you confirm that a normal carrera can not keep up against a Modena ...
Do you need a 996 GT3 RS ?
If you compare it to its natural rival (360 challenge stradale), it can not keep up as well. See video answer or top gear test that can find on you tube
@lbonu1967 - Can I just point out that I have actually worked for Porsche in Zuffenhausen and also Ferrari in Via Trento. So first of all stick your "seems your an expert" comment where the sun doesnt shine, as your expertise created from watching the occasional top gear episode is nothing short of comical..... If you ever (and im guessing you probably wont) get the chance to get an inside look into the way these companys work and create vehicles you may understand, my comments.
1) First I'm an mechanical engineer with automotive specialization
2) I work in automotive field as Ferrari supplier, and also with Porsche for Cayman bodyside that have been realized in Italy (ITCA).
3) I'm asking to you NOW in which department you've have been employed in Ferrari and name of responsable. If I don't get any answer from your side, it means you are just one internet troll. Come e-mail me, I will check you're trying kidding me.
@lbonu1967 LMFAO thats the fanciest name Ive ever heard of for a common as muck mechanic.... not that this will mean anything to a grease monkey such as yourself but since you asked - I managed the implementation of Ferrari's chosen ERP system. Again I dont know why im bothering but for the sake of the argument - the project manager within Ferrari at the time was Andreas Panceri...... So there ya go soppy bollocks enjoy doing "Porsche cayman bodysides" whatever the hell that is?
At the end you don't have any experience about car or mechanical in general. Just an internet troll writing about cars and with ERP system implementation experience. Don't you feel ridiculous just a bit ? Take a look to motor vehicle engineering book, you will discover that a car have body panels, headlamps, suspensions or gearbox, components I have experience with. If not came back to your software station, you have only authority to post about mouse or keybord quality.
And I don't need top Gear to know about Ferrari or Porsche performance. There is actually difference between Italian and german approach to car's development. This doesn't mean nothing about car performance and what we are discussing in this video post
@brad1brad and you can drive your Porsche every day, it will ride speed bumps and will not be temperamental. I love my 996 911 tt, just had it remapped to 530 bhp with 707 pounds feet of torque by DMS Andover. Awesome car.
@brad1brad why should i save u that who gives a fuck that your car is a bit faster put your modern turbo against a 458 and see what happens idiot and not to mention the porsche is fugly
@unclepic1 A 458 italia can't handle a GT2 or GT2 RS around the ring. And the look is you're opinion. And can I get the 458 in a manual gearbox please? Oh... no... I can't.
@MangoSmoothie16 ill certainly give u the GT2 RS for sure think it could keep with the normal GT2 anytime of day and the ring lap times suck cause they are all independent driven by all different people and sure a manual is nice but the 458s gearbox is one of the fastest and most advanced in the world far better then PDK
@unclepic1 Im going by wikipedia for lap times. Probably not the best of sources. And I'm not saying the gearbox is shit or better than the PDK... I'm saying I want a 6spd with a clutch even if its a little slower shifting. Ferrari doesnt offer that at all anymore, do they?

Sports cars are designed to be cool as well as fast not just good looking alone

and the Turbo is very heavy, with lot of comfort in it, it's an "all around" according to Porsche, their "sport cars" are GT3 and GT2
