  • Thanks. Good review .Cool accent (Dutch ?)

  • @theoutremerlibrary Norwegian. Glad you like the first review I ever made - three and a half years ago!

  • What the hell! This is the first time i have heard a Yankee talking about the British Paratroops...

  • @samosammo123 I'm no yank!

  • Comment removed

  • dont like airfix becasue they all look the same.

  • I cant believe that airfix is still making this crap. I had these back in the late 70s. The quality was crap then and still is it seems.

  • hows the ww1 infantry?

  • i had these when i was a kid and i didnt like them then and i still dont like them now but im really curious to see how you make them look ! by the way i tried finding you on Skype..did several searches and nothing , i dont get it?

  • how i could make a table sized battleground someone tell me

  • that kit is from before i was born and it already sucked back then ;) i remember, it was one of the few boxes i didn't like... what happened to the matchbox molds?

  • its not as bad as the 1:72 british infantry set, no sten guns stupid positions and they are all a head higher above any other airfix infantry

  • what miniatures pack do you recommend airfix or tamiya

  • @DuhMulti Of those two, I'd recommend Tamiya.

  • @JordanR730 It's not a Sten Gun.. Later research shows it's a Reising SMG.. Bad Airfix..!

  • Figurer of soldiers are interesting too but I prefer aircrafts from WW2 ;)

    Good vid!

  • These are awful soldiers LOL.... Airfix never made a good set of figures, EVER!

  • @ekmad - that's harsh!

This set is poor - that's because it's 45 years old & still in production - and the figures were never intended to represent Brit paras. (they're sculpted as USMC paras, armed with the Reising M50).

But for maybe twenty years, Airfix were way better than anything else available.

Check out plasticsoldierreview for scans & reviews of all the airfix sets - some of them are still very good.

  • @ekmad , compared to modern 1:35 sets, which are assembled individually (I.E, without weapons/equiptment moulded on) these figures do fall into mediocracy. However, to say that Airfix NEVER made a set of good figures is very wrong indeed. It is undisputable that Airfix made the best WWI German infantry and probably the best Prussian landwehr and of course the best WWII Italians. Some sets can be bad, but you must NEVER dismiss Airfix from the modelling market.

  • @whikless Another point to show is that without Airfix, there would most probably not be a modelling market.. And I have seen some very nice figure kits from them!

  • @whikless No actually I think all the figures are very well made. although revell and italia ad more features airfix is for kids whereas the others are for mad modellers.

  • what accent is that?

  • @darkslash67 The third one :)

  • no i meant what country

  • Hehe, I know.. Just having a little fun. I would be found in the country Norway, and speaking with what many would call a Norwegian accent :)

  • cool

  • A good set from Airfix is the Italians. I use them as Russians in my wargames. The Airfix Russians suck horribly. The Italians poses are very aggressive.

  • not bad i have 1/32 men from airfix

  • for figures i would go for Matchbox in 80s, airfix is better in the modeliing tanks or planes with more detauls,, nowadays i guess theres only tamiya for figures, checked the airfix webpage,, clasic and new stuff,,

  • I remember those , paint went everywhere and my dog ate half of em. I set the rest on fire ( my childhood was epic)

  • So I hear :)

I have done some weird things myself....

  • LMAO

  • just wondering thoose airfix models are they good quality like games workshop products or are they more like low quality toys? pls answer

  • Games Workshop is top notch quality. These Airfix kits are VERY old, and not good when it comes to details. If you want one to look good, you do have to spend some money. And their figures are the worst.. Just the vehicles can go.

I have yet to try their brand new kits. The moulds of this kit has been around since the -60's, so not good at all... ;)

  • i have british paratroopers on scale 1/32,american para, modern british, british support groep, german africa corps all scale 1/32 and russian soldiers 1/72

  • That's quite some.. All Airfix? Didn't know they made those in 1/32..

  • the most soldiers of airfix are 1/72 but i like 1/32 more

  • italira or whatever it is are good for choppers and planes and tamiya for tanks jeeps figures etc

  • here in USA most ppl are into model railroads so other kits are 'few and far between' as the saying goes but are found in aviation museums...I liked this review:)

  • i ordered this set. i diddent expect there to be has meny things. is the WW2 US marine set this large aswell?

  • One of the guys I regularly wargame with (28mm & 15mm metals) has discovered a big bag of his boyhood Airfix 1/72's at his parents house.

We're considering painting them up & doing some retro-WWII skirmish using some demo game rules we picked up at York wargames show.

  • I can sure see that's alot of fun.. Wanted to do WWII wargaming for a while myself! =)

  • lol i got a bunch of 1:72 scale figures on my shelf including those british paratroopers. airfix rules lol! where do you get your figurines?

  • The only thing that's "true" Airfix here is the box artwork..the originals would of been HO-OO scale

  • Memories - My brother and I used to have 1000´s of asorted Airfix soldiers of different nationalities back in the early 70´s that we used to play with. Years after we moved away from home my mother find snipers in flowerpots and other strange places. Those molds have been around for a long time.

  • hahaha I can imagine me many other people have the same story to tell :)

  • Has anybody noticed the figures in this set are slightly bigger than other airfix 1:72 soldiers

  • never noticed, never had any other 1/72 by Airfix.. or, not when I got this tho'.

  • that is being feirly picky thou dont you thingk?

  • Not really. It makes a big difference.. Of course, it varies with how serious you are into modeling, of course! :)

  • yes i suppose. but its only a picture on the box. on most airfix sets its not 100% like it..

  • yes,it's true!Bigger than other figures,as i had these figures since i was a kid and compared to the others...they are bigger!

Also in my opinion one of the worst packages of Airfix, two or three poses ok,the soldiers with the parachutes, the supply crate, but no one with a beret, the guns lack reallity....as compared to the german paratroopers it even not seem an Airfix soldier kit!

  • do you paint your soldiers ?

  • Yes, I do.

  • I'm very familiar with those litle figures.. I used the figure of the soldier being shot as a 'Tank Commander' in a Swedish S-103 C Tank. I also used another of the figures to make a small diorama, featuring the S-Tank in a snowy landscape.. :)

  • ooo great idea! Thanks :)

  • Okey.

I have done a Dragon sd.kfz. 251 auf. C (german halftrack) but I have never done Tamiya.

I live in Holland we can't get Tamiya everwere...xD

  • Isn't Tamiya available in Nederland?

    That's weird..

  • I bought the heller set 'd-day air assault'.

it came with a glider, jeep and trailer, german infanterie and these britis paratroopers.

    They are real crap.

I had never painted or bought airfix figures, I always use italeri.

Italeri has so much more qualitie than this...

  • Yeah.. I know what you mean.. Haven't tried any Heller WWII kits.. But Italeri has quality, indeed.. You should check out Tamiya and Dragon. They are actaully a little better than Italeri.. But Italeri is still one of my favorites! ;)

  • This set was originally sold as "Allied Paratroopers".

The figures are based on U.S. Marine Corps parachutists, ('paramarines') which explains the bazooka, and why they're wearing tunics rather than the British Dennison jump smock.

The 'Not-quite-right-looking' Thompson SMG is the clincher - it's the Reising M50, a real piece of junk which was only carried by USMC paras.

  • Great info! Thanks alot.. that explains it all! thanks.. alot!

  • Thanks.. Hope my films can help!

  • My microphone is crap though, and I cannot get to Norway.
