  • only words of wisdom come out of his mouth

  • I love his hand gestures :')

  • I like his way of thinking :')

  • Those who don't know Christ have darkened reasoning. It is only by the light of Christ that we are even free to truly begin thinking. This makes me sad, but I'm used to the world's buffet philosophy. I'll have a bit of this and a dash of that. In the end, we make ourselves our own God's, no matter how much we think it through.

  • he is so wise

  • In 2004 I did not know, that somewhere lives Damien Rice ^^

  • I do wish he would hurry up and make another studio album, lovely artist xx

  • "the moment you think you know something is the moment you stop learning" that in fact is a big buddhist and zen teaching. Very wise words from both people who speak them! damien and buddism! hehe

  • What have you been smoking Damo?

  • Oh please tell me he's a non-beliver. I'd respect him even more.

  • "maybe we're in heaven right now...maybe we don't realize"...Beautiful quote

  • one and one is two. i know that and it doesn't make me want to stop learning new things. i think he doesn't know what he's talking about (even though I adore his music).

  • @jan040793 bicycle + elephant = tree. Symbols are imposed to intellectualize the irrational. All logic is subjective.

  • i could listen him speak all my life... and if someone told me that Damien Rice is a God in human body i would definatelly believe in him

  • I'm a Christian but all this arguing needs to stop. Am I the only one who thought his southern pastor impersonation was dead on? That's what all the comments should be about.

  • @theassassin43 i agree. also a Christian, and although i see what he is getting about with people having closed minds when they say 'i know', i don't think that has anything to do with the bible. we are always learning more!

i LOVE his music, but i don't agree with hardly anything he says in this interview!

  • 1.15 damien making a box around his face xD

  • I met Damien in 1998 and and am still listening to him today.. I'm now 19. when he gave me an autograph he drew a quick sketch of me just like the cover of his album "O".. One of my favorite memories. Amazing person and artist.

  • At 4:00 he is talking about cold water, and i realised that is exactly the premise of "laughing with" by Regina Spektor, about how people may not believe in anything but as soon as something terrible happens they try thier hardest to beleive something is there to help them. Then i thought... 'hmm, maybe regina listens to damien rice?' haha :)

    Good stuff

  • @NestGuns That's a fabulous thought, perhaps one day he will write a book and share all his beautifully philosophical, and wonderfully human ideas and thoughts with us all. That would be a book I could read over and over again.

  • This man is real.

  • very odd I never heard of him and yet he was in my "recommend for you" , so I clicked on the video and I must say I did enjoy watching the interview , he does believe in the same views as I do.

  • @THEBADASSOROMO Watch his song "I Remember"!:) The one with 1,3m views is the one I like best:)

  • i think the idea that "maybe we're in heaven now" is a great philosophy!

it makes me want to take every day and appreciate it :)

  • i love his impersonation of that preist ha int he beginging!!! haha

  • i like the things he says. like his views.

  • Awesome interview. Very clever guy.

  • well this is why I worship him.

he's the guy i would like to have by my side all life.

to share his dreams, his hopes and disappointments ...

he's like a big kid, in a biiig, big world... finding his way to make the best of his life, the best that he can... very inspiring.... :)

it would be very nice to hear him play in serbia [ no, not siria, not sibir. serbia. balkan. :) ]...

maybe not many people would come, but it would be very nice expirience for us, the fans...

  • @jucilija Potpuno se slazem. Pozdrav! :)

  • Esse cara é muito inteligente, mesmo!

    rsrsr!

  • fell in love with him again .

me apaixonei por ele novamente .

  • First interview ive ever seen of Damien,, and the funny thing is i knew he would think this way, before even hearing him. there is no way someone creates music like that,,magic like that,,and isnt a deep ,aware, human being :)

  • That's what I thought- First time I've heard him describe what goes on in his head, and he's just as I imagined.

  • spot on

  • @FridaBlues the same happened to me... i had never heard him speak... but everything he said, everything he thinks, is in total compliance to what i "thought" (i never really thought about the way he though). Somehow, the honesty in his words and in his feelings, the way he sings, even without paying attention to the lyrics, reaches you... like you say, so much truth, feelings this pure, had to come from a deep, AWARE, human being... :)

  • @FridaBlues I knew it too :) this man has helped so much, i cant even explain it.

  • When you feel like you know something, that's when I think you begin to stop learning because things starts shutting off and the learning goes down. The moment you say "I know something!" I think is the moment where you miss the point.

  • love his view on life.. :)

  • Jesus, invade his life with your love. You long for him to feel your love. Believe me, I would never keep seeking Jesus if I didn't experience Him. I would die for you all to feel the love I've felt after searching for Jesus. It makes the world boring. Religion sucks. Religion is fake and cultish. But there is a man who loves you more than anything and He wants to be in relationship with you. I wouldn't try to spread fake religion around. But love this good is impossible not to share.

  • @kcervantes100 that is so beautiful. i'm totally praying for the same thing

  • yep... religion was...

    but true spirituallity trumps all...

  • I could listen to him all day long :)

  • i love him,

    he is a genius!

  • i'm so glad the interviewer doesn't interupt him. He let's him talk on and on for 15 minutes! Great!

  • everyone who is looking at damien as inspiration or influence, that isnt what he is about. You arent suppose to believe in what he believes specifically but be open about who you are and how you live you life and dont cage yourself in a box. I think he is trying to tell everyone to not be justified in what everyone else thinks persay

  • He should teach seminars to jaded, exhausted, striving for perfection students like me. I wish I had his carefree outlook.

  • His insights into the nature of air make me want to stop breathing! What a prong.

  • wow this guy shares my ideas on lots of things. hes a true artist openminded.

  • This man is VERY intelligent...

My god, this guy is intelligent. I actually never thought this guy was this intelligent - even from his spectacular lyrics - until I saw this interview. I have a huge amount of respect for this guy. I always liked him, but my god I love this guy now.

Damien is a very open person, and I find it very hard to find find any flaw in his philosophy or logic. Him, and Jeff Buckley are easily in my list of biggest influences ever, and not just musically.

  • Damien's fantastic!!

  • hah! i'm from alabama and i am visiting ireland very soon. my heart just kind of jumped!

  • plz pple what did he say about bible and quran i didn't get it !!!!!!! plz someone can explain me what he means from 50 sec until 1 min???? pllzz

    thx

  • "he believes that whats written in the bible, the way its written in the bible, thats the truth and there is no other truth. And I said well what about the koran? NO the bible! And I said well what about buddhist teachings? An he said no the bible is the truth"

    hope that helped

  • care to elaborate on that sunshine?

  • He is soooooooo deep! and so right! everyone should take his advice

  • he's so fucking inspiring!

  • He is FREE!!!!! What a Happy boy

  • i love when people call people out for not believing in heaven like hes a bad person. funny cuz damien rice, dave matthews, and others are all extremely rich, yet they all donate back and make the world a better place. you need to reevaluate your look on people

  • i think u toke that wrong, he doesn't just have some perfect life and think this is heaven, i think he's saying maybe we should stop complaining about what we have or don't have, and stop expecting that we'll be in heaven some day and everything will be perfect, instead maybe this is heaven, and we have everything we possibly need here to have heaven..

  • no... there is no way that this is heaven...

when someone is in the position to take your life, like kill you with a gun... we don't have control... there is no way to have what we want... how would you call you heaven... i think damien has good logic, but slightly misguided... but he's so deep, i think that he is such a person, and knows that the life is precious...

  • He is actually right on. I love his comments about truth, learning, and knowing. It is like Jiddu Krishnamurti said, "Truth is a pathless land". The moment we think we know truth is when we have ceased to explore...ceased to learn.

  • Pretty convincing Southern accent he demonstrated there. Didn't know DR was quite the natural philosopher. Makes me appreciate him a bit more.

  • could somebody write what he is saying here?...cause I don't understand everything.

  • Bit late... but what do you not understand?

  • I would much rather listen to Rice than your ranting shite.

  • anyway hes amaizing

  • I didnt know that a mucisian you like could so easily touch you with his toughts.

    Just amazing.

  • I think he's a very honest and open person, and that's something that I respect and appreciate...those of you who don't like tis must not be open minded enough...

  • Is Damien Rice Christian?

  • No, I don't think so.

  • Well considering you are Swedish and i am irish and know what a Kildare accent is as well as knowing that he grew up there constitutes that it is a kildare accent.

  • I wasn't responding to your comment about his accent, I was responding to your question on whether or not he was a Christian.

  • Oh ;) Sorry mate! Yah your right, probably Buddist or something.

  • i think hes ignostic

  • I think you mean Agnostic

  • sounds like he read krishnamurti

  • haha.. it's like he takes a little bit from every beliefs and jumbles it into 1 me belief...

  • OMG! Its like he is reading my mind. I totaly agree with what he says! Wish we had more peole like him in the world!

  • noone asked you to listen...this isn't a lecture, so why are you treating it like one

they asked him, because they wanted to know more about him - it's about him

he wrote the songs for himself, we as fans choose to listen, but noone forced us

  • I didnt say anyone was forcing me to listen. I want to hear what he has to say but I was dissapointed by it. I dont think anything you've said is remotely justified.

  • All of my philosophical views and thoughts are better explained to me now, I'm not done what with my view on the world and what and who is in it, I may never be done but, I used to think I was the only one who thought, in general, just thought of what was around me but there are people out there, my girlfriend actually, my best friend, has shown me that people have beauty inside of them that is worth the time to find. I really love her and life and music and all of my family and friends.

  • omg.. i think i have found my soul mate

  • Damien, you ultracool hippy,I totally feel with you. And the fact that you are so sincere makes me hope for more integrity even though its not commonly shared.

I am waiting for your new album with absolute compassion and curiousity! Take your time, I know it will be worth it...

    Love Petra

  • I'm in Love.

I'm in love with Damien Rice.

  • that is quite a limited point of view; had u studied religion and it's history, u would'nt say that? just Bcos religion, be it christianism or other was used as a pretext for political reasons doesn't automatically imply that it is bas per se...

  • a girl from Alabama... I live in Alabama. Who was she? Anyone know?

Damien pulled off the southern accent well

  • how do you know it isn't?

  • How do you know it is?

  • never said i did know. calm down will you. im just looking at things from all sides which neither rabid fundies or diehard atheists seem to be able to do. i asked a simple question but all the atheists could do was reply with silly comebacks. atheists are just as blind as fundamentalists in alot of ways its pathetic.

  • Haha, Damien is super high in this interview. He has a lot of really good points. I would like to live in the world he envisions

  • Yes sir!! he is in ganja concioussness talking the truth! :D

  • omg! im in total agreement with the things he said in the interview! he´s awesome, his music and him!!

  • me 2 lol

  • oh my goodness. i want him. =P

  • Me too !!!!!! We can share, I don't mind :P

  • hi!can you tell me what he says about?

  • that's IS the best southern accent i have ever heard ...XD

  • It's a Kildare accent.

  • 1998...man it seems like it just turned 2000, but it's been 10 years. It makes me feel so old.

  • Very good interview. He has a lot of good stuff to say.

  • i dont think im gay. but darn it, hes good.

  • i am struggling with backing up my beliefs. one of my struggles.

    it's a nasty struggle too

i mean i was brought up christian,

but unfortunately like the cookie cutter stuff

and now i'm exploring more and deeper into the bible's truth and theology

    and it's so awesome

  • i understand what damien's saying,

but also the bible is the truth

BUT the priest can't just say that without backing his beliefs up

he can't say the bible's right without

    saying why

    i am christian

and i love damien so much!

    i agree and disagree

    awesome interview

i want to talk to him so badly

  • why is the bible the truth then ?

  • I was wondering the same thing. Why don't you back up what you're saying.

  • this is what i struggle with. i have personal beliefs that remain as such, however, i feel betrayed when people who follow the word of God, judge those who do not. This is a hypocrisy i cannot stomach.

I can never question curiosity. i think also that sometimes religion is used as a method of mass control.

  • damien doesnt say that the bible is wrong hes just saying that it isnt the only true thing on the earth, for example the book of mormon, a lot of people havent read it and say they dont believe it because they hear stories from people tht really arent true. the koran aswell as he said, people dont believe that because they listen to others views upon it and not their own

  • he talks sooo much sense. love him.

  • What a legend.

  • Hero.

  • Thanks for posting this, it's great! xx
