Those who don't know Christ have darkened reasoning. It is only by the light of Christ that we are even free to truly begin thinking. This makes me sad, but I'm used to the world's buffet philosophy. I'll have a bit of this and a dash of that. In the end, we make ourselves our own God's, no matter how much we think it through.
"the moment you think you know something is the moment you stop learning" that in fact is a big buddhist and zen teaching. Very wise words from both people who speak them! damien and buddism! hehe
one and one is two. i know that and it doesn't make me want to stop learning new things. i think he doesn't know what he's talking about (even though I adore his music).
I'm a Christian but all this arguing needs to stop. Am I the only one who thought his southern pastor impersonation was dead on? That's what all the comments should be about.
@theassassin43 i agree. also a Christian, and although i see what he is getting about with people having closed minds when they say 'i know', i don't think that has anything to do with the bible. we are always learning more!
i LOVE his music, but i don't agree with hardly anything he says in this interview!
I met Damien in 1998 and and am still listening to him today.. I'm now 19. when he gave me an autograph he drew a quick sketch of me just like the cover of his album "O".. One of my favorite memories. Amazing person and artist.
At 4:00 he is talking about cold water, and i realised that is exactly the premise of "laughing with" by Regina Spektor, about how people may not believe in anything but as soon as something terrible happens they try thier hardest to beleive something is there to help them. Then i thought... 'hmm, maybe regina listens to damien rice?' haha :)
@NestGuns That's a fabulous thought, perhaps one day he will write a book and share all his beautifully philosophical, and wonderfully human ideas and thoughts with us all. That would be a book I could read over and over again.
very odd I never heard of him and yet he was in my "recommend for you" , so I clicked on the video and I must say I did enjoy watching the interview , he does believe in the same views as I do.
First interview ive ever seen of Damien,, and the funny thing is i knew he would think this way, before even hearing him. there is no way someone creates music like that,,magic like that,,and isnt a deep ,aware, human being :)
@FridaBlues the same happened to me... i had never heard him speak... but everything he said, everything he thinks, is in total compliance to what i "thought" (i never really thought about the way he though). Somehow, the honesty in his words and in his feelings, the way he sings, even without paying attention to the lyrics, reaches you... like you say, so much truth, feelings this pure, had to come from a deep, AWARE, human being... :)
When you feel like you know something, that's when I think you begin to stop learning because things starts shutting off and the learning goes down. The moment you say "I know something!" I think is the moment where you miss the point.
Jesus, invade his life with your love. You long for him to feel your love. Believe me, I would never keep seeking Jesus if I didn't experience Him. I would die for you all to feel the love I've felt after searching for Jesus. It makes the world boring. Religion sucks. Religion is fake and cultish. But there is a man who loves you more than anything and He wants to be in relationship with you. I wouldn't try to spread fake religion around. But love this good is impossible not to share.
everyone who is looking at damien as inspiration or influence, that isnt what he is about. You arent suppose to believe in what he believes specifically but be open about who you are and how you live you life and dont cage yourself in a box. I think he is trying to tell everyone to not be justified in what everyone else thinks persay
My god, this guy is intelligent. I actually never thought this guy was this intelligent - even from his spectacular lyrics - until I saw this interview. I have a huge amount of respect for this guy. I always liked him, but my god I love this guy now.
Damien is a very open person, and I find it very hard to find find any flaw in his philosophy or logic. Him, and Jeff Buckley are easily in my list of biggest influences ever, and not just musically.
"he believes that whats written in the bible, the way its written in the bible, thats the truth and there is no other truth. And I said well what about the koran? NO the bible! And I said well what about buddhist teachings? An he said no the bible is the truth"
i love when people call people out for not believing in heaven like hes a bad person. funny cuz damien rice, dave matthews, and others are all extremely rich, yet they all donate back and make the world a better place. you need to reevaluate your look on people
i think u toke that wrong, he doesn't just have some perfect life and think this is heaven, i think he's saying maybe we should stop complaining about what we have or don't have, and stop expecting that we'll be in heaven some day and everything will be perfect, instead maybe this is heaven, and we have everything we possibly need here to have heaven..
when someone is in the position to take your life, like kill you with a gun... we don't have control... there is no way to have what we want... how would you call you heaven... i think damien has good logic, but slightly misguided... but he's so deep, i think that he is such a person, and knows that the life is precious...
He is actually right on. I love his comments about truth, learning, and knowing. It is like Jiddu Krishnamurti said, "Truth is a pathless land". The moment we think we know truth is when we have ceased to explore...ceased to learn.
I think he's a very honest and open person, and that's something that I respect and appreciate...those of you who don't like tis must not be open minded enough...
Well considering you are Swedish and i am irish and know what a Kildare accent is as well as knowing that he grew up there constitutes that it is a kildare accent.
I didnt say anyone was forcing me to listen. I want to hear what he has to say but I was dissapointed by it. I dont think anything you've said is remotely justified.
All of my philosophical views and thoughts are better explained to me now, I'm not done what with my view on the world and what and who is in it, I may never be done but, I used to think I was the only one who thought, in general, just thought of what was around me but there are people out there, my girlfriend actually, my best friend, has shown me that people have beauty inside of them that is worth the time to find. I really love her and life and music and all of my family and friends.
Damien, you ultracool hippy,I totally feel with you. And the fact that you are so sincere makes me hope for more integrity even though its not commonly shared.
