  • Apparently, Jay Ungar composed "Ashokan Farewell" after hearing Tom Anderson's "Da Slockit Light". You can hear the same mood in this tune too.

  • Thanks for posting. I have heard the tune once or twice played by people here in the Borders. Never found a good fiddle version on you tube though.

  • That was wonderful!

  • Gael 147 has it right. The full title is "Da Auld Resting Chair," composed by the late Shetland fiddler Tom Anderson.

  • Beautiful tunes this. Two friends of mine play this as a concertina duet sometimes. It works really well.

These guys would unlikely be related to Sean McGuire, kirsty519. These brothers are from the Sligo direction and Sean was from around Belfast I think.

  • Does anyone know if the fiddlers are related to Sean?

  • It's called The Resting Chair by Tom Anderson

  • No wonder--both Tom Anderson tunes. You can practically play :"Da Slockit Light" simultaneously in counterpoint and sound quite good.

  • Isn't that the Shetland tune "Da Slockit Light"?

  • I have no idea what the name of the tune is but I can tell definitively that it is not Da Slockit Light .

  • Exquisite! I have no idea what the tune is called. I watched this at bedtime and its peacefulness made me fall asleep at the 'puter. :)
