Im a bit upset of this episode because the USAF Special Ops units were not mentioned, and may have misinformed some of the people who watched this. They might mistook Chapman was another SEAL when in fact he was a Combat Controller, and Cunningham was not a Ranger and not just a "medic" but a Pararescueman.There was a special tactics squadron inserted along with the the Ranger team, Where was their story?I think NG should reasearch more.

Self was standing at the top of the slope in the bunkers, while an eagle dropped a 500lb on the side of the mountain below the bottom of the slope, and it knocked his fucking helmet off. So im pretty sure it wouldnt be smart to drop missiles on top of a team of DEVGRU, which are Tier 1 SEALs, rather than plane old tier 2 SEALs.

They were on a slope. The DShK was at the top of the slope and pushed back a little bit. Resulting in it not having a proper angle to see all the way down the slope. It was said the DShK could only see the very top of the Chinook.  Thats why the two medics inside survived for so long. And thats why they were able to make the charge. There was also a big fat rock outcropping that blocked its view of the slope all together.
