Is this the stock Fantom e.g. without addon cards? I'm looking forward to buy my first rompler next year, candidates are this one and the Yamaha Motif XS rack. But I can't decide... the Fantom is already a bit older (2004?) and has (from stock) less sounds than the Motif. But it is upgradeable (which is quite expensive...) and the sampler is also a nice feature to have, although for me atm not really necessary.
What's your opinion? Have you ever played on a Motif XS rack? Thank you.
I've seen a video on how to make a drumkit from samples on the Fantom, it's yet a nice feature to have... I'm really torn between those two synthies and my money won't suffice for both :(
@bommel88 Dear Bommel, I don't know if you already bought the XR or the XS. I have bought the XS. I must stay the sounds are very great of the XS, specially the piano and the strings, the brass sounds are also done very well. I don't like the synth sounds so much. I'd rather use my Korg Triton TR Rack for. Korg is better with the synth sounds.
@martijnvandongen No, I haven't yet. Thanks for the info! I will try both when I have saved enough money but actually I prefer the Motif! But I'll give the Fantom a fair chance when I try it ;)
Hey Keyboard Wizard. Those are some crazy riffs you are playing my man. I also have a Oxygen 49 and i'm thinking about picking up an XR tomorrow too. I was wondering if it is difficult to set up the Oxygen's knobs and faders with the XR? and also how are the effects on it? Thanks
I have not programmed the knobs to control the XR - I do everything via the front panel. The effects are very good, but can be complex to configure (although there is software that makes programming the XR easier). Regardless, perhaps because I have been a Yamaha user for so long, I don't find the XR to be particularly intuitive to use.
At 1:36 into this vid, there's the sample, "New Age Frtls". That sounds like Patrick O'Hearn ... early Patrick O'Hearn, "Rivers Gonna Rise" album. He had some kind of synth guitar that had a very unique sound to it. A very dreamy, relaxing sound, yet so bluesey! This sample reminded me of that! Jus' thought you'd like to know ;-)
Im not a musician but every now and then I can come up with some decent tunes. That is an amazing piece of hardware. Is it functioning on its own or is there another device to make that possible. So how much is Roland asking for that synth?
The Fantom XR is a synthesizer module that does not appear visibly in the video. If you Google it you will find tons of information, including many online retailers who sell the Fantom XR. A typical price is about $1395, although I bought mine used on eBay for about half that.
hola como estas ..... I congratulate you for your contribution to music, I have an oxygen with a sequencer yamaha qy100 and as set as you have in your faders, thanks ......
you should go out on YOUTUBE and hear some of these older synths.... its how we got 'here'

Edgar Froese probably has one of these by now! And some tired old heavy metal musicians: you know, too old to swing their G around
Seriously, great demo and an awesome machine.

whats best is that you know how to use each patch tastefully, musically and appropriately.
