I pulled the thin almost paper-like washers out of shock mount where the screw is that adjusts the position and it holds pretty well. definitely poor design
It was some cheap Musician's Gear stand, it didn't take very long before it broke. You can actually see in the video that I was using a clamp to keep it up. Now I use Tama (Yes, Tama) MS205; I love it.
@maroes173 It was some cheap Musician's Gear stand, it didn't take very long before it broke. You can actually see in the video that I was using a clamp to keep it up. Now I use Tama (Yes, Tama) MS205; I love it.
@VisualK3i94 I honestly can't give you a good comparison. I've never owned a Rode mic. The price is about the same; you'd probably be fine with either one.
@Flobbies Are you mad because I'm not recording on a Mac? It's okay, just try to be accepting toward people that don't share the same opinions as yourself.
@DreaVonJazz You can use a USB adapter, such as the Blue Icicle. I can't comment on how well it works because I don't own one; They're pretty cheap, however. I'd include a link, but YouTube won't let me.
@DreaVonJazz if you gonna get one id get the shure x2u it cost a little more than the icicle its like 80-90 dollars but it works good for what it does..
Bro please answer this question, i want to buy this mic to record voices (rap) what did you say? I investigate this mic and i only find good thinks but i needd opinions
@686blezek Hey, man. I think it would work well. My friend and I recorded a joke rap song making fun of one of our friends, you can check it out on my soundcloud. Like I said, It was a joke, but it might give you a little idea.
@Hammett11 It sounds good man, you have a lot experience about mastering, etc? my question is did i need a lot of experience in that sent to gave a good quality in the voice? maybee i don´t explain me a lot because i dont know a lot of english XD y speak spanish :P
@686blezek At4040 Mic by AudioTechnica is a solid mic for Rap vocals>Im a Rap Artist-singer>and it does good for rap>The blue mic is Good for RnB and Rap>but more for RnB >For Rock>You're gonna need something more like a Shure condensor>over $150 dollars
@frankyrocksmyrocks Well, blue has been tested and summed up to work well with RnB singers statistically; while At40's and up are very well on rap Vocals.......Now all of this info vary's accordingly when using particular Mic-pre amps>for instance>if you use an Avalon pre-amp on a At4040_then it becomes good for Rock>Go figure. My best advice is to have three mics over $150 dollars>and switch up from song to song>you NEVER wanna sound the same on every song>Hencean industry's technique>Shhhh.
My friend is selling me his Bluebird Microphone for $200, with the stand and stand mount, and the other accessories that come with it, including a cable. Is that worth it? I know it's $300 new, but would it be worth buying used or just getting a new one? Or if buying a new one, just getting something else? Maybe a Schure SM-57? I'm mostly just a guitar player so I don't know much about recording other than the Garageband stuff I do with a $20 mic.
@lordbow That is a good deal, cheap cables alone sell for around twenty bucks. IN MY OPINION (I can't stress that enough) SM-57's aren't the mics I'd go for if you intend on doing any singing. The Bluebird will do probably anything you want and sound great with a little EQ.
@Hammett11 Few more questions. I saw a video of a shoot-out between the Bluebird & the Sterling ST55. Is the ST55 better or just better for specific tasks like recording a distorted guitar, which is what was being recorded? Out of Shure brand microphones, there are many & I don't know the differences but which would be a good-affordable microphone? I saw 4 different instrument/condenser microphones. Is there anything I should keep an eye for if I buy my friends Bluebird?
@lordbow I've never used a Sterling mic; I don't know much about them. Shure makes some good stuff and depeding on what you're wanting to do, you can always find one to work, the SM-57 is great for guitar, the SM-58 is almost the standard for live vocals. I'd probably want to test a used mic first, but it'll probably be fine,
@GTSMovements I record into a multi-track, so I don't really use a program for recording, just editing. I've always heard Reaper is good; really cheap, too
@PiccadillyMan Thank you. I'm recording into the BOSS Mukti-track recorder you see in the video, onto a memory card. If I need to do any editing, I use Adobe Audition.
the blue bluebird is way more versatile. but im afraid the guy at guitar center mis led you. the baby bottle is a vocal mic not guitar. it was literally made to a vocal mic, its kinda like a cheap kiwi.
Hey Hammett, You're a really great guy for posting this. Guys who are getting into this home recording thing, like me, really appreciate your efforts and info. Thanks much.
@Geotubest You're very welcome, man. I'm always happy to help. I know that anyone on a budget, like me, doesn't wanna waste money on equipment that isn't worth it. Thanks a lot for your kind words.
I Wanted to know if its worth the $300.....and when i get it does it have a usb plug in or do you plug it into the microphone jack on your computer..Please let me know
@LouieBoy814 If you wanted to plug it in USB, would would need a special adapter, Such as the Blue Icicle. You could plug it in your Mic in if you wanted to, but you would need a special XLR to 1/8 cable for that, as well. You usually don't wanna plug anything into the Mic in on your computer if you're trying to record anything serious, though. It adds gain, which usually doesn't turn out well
@LouieBoy814 The Icicle is about 40 bucks. The only way I could think to do an XLR to 1/8 would be XLR to 1/4-Adapter-1/8. I'm pretty sure it always adds gain, if you have a "line in" that would work better.
I own this mic.............it sounds great so far on everything I have used it for..........guitars, vocals, drum overheads.............wel worth the 300 dollar price tag
It sounds pretty good in most aspects, but I never seem to find Blue mics enjoyable to listen to. They all sound enclosed and I just don't find their sound open enough.
@MyRandomReviews That's because near all of Blue's mics contain a 1/2 to 3/4 size cap compare to other mics that have a 1'' cap, more open and alot more sensitive.
@believin13 gotcha, I replayed wut u where u were describing abut it and i looked it up on Guitar Center and found it. Their calling it a Pre-Amp & what you had said it was. oooh does the Tube last very long, if not how long does it last for? I have a BR-1180 that I'm using to record on and a Shure 57 its ok, but I believe that Blue Bird would b better. Thank u for the info.
Don't worry, I wasn't intending on clipping like crazy :^) I just wanted to make sure you could hear me speaking without having to carry the mic around.
YES! The whole first half of the video i heard the backround noise and i said "He has the gain wayyy too high this test is going to suck!" but then you turned it down! I'm happy you did, this is a good mic.
@AntonioRepiso That stand is very cheap, it is a Musician's Gear MS-270. The one I actually use now is a Tama MS205 That I like a lot. If you are on an extreme budget, the Musician's gear would work, But the Tama seems like it's indestructable and really doesn't cost THAT much more.
Oh nice, now I'm pretty sure that I'm buying this mic later this year. I can record my vocals and guitar maybe even violin, without buying multiple mics.
@Nisezzy I'm pretty sure audacity is the standard for free recording. If sometime down the road, you don't mind paying a little bit, you sholuld look into reaper.
@peterjordan12 he placed the mic on the sound hole. When micing acoustic guitar it should be 12th fret or where the guitar body and neck meet. maybe angled toward the fret board for more squeaks of the finger slides, or tilted toward the body for more body if its the only thing in the mix, all depends on what you're looking for. But it is a great mic! BLUE all the way!
@sweetice879 Thanks a lot man. I really appreciate it! you should look up the whole song, It's called a talk with George by Jonathan Coulton. He rocks harder than I ever could.
@TheLastConfessions I think that depends on the pre-amp. I know with mine you can. But before you drop any money, you'll wanna look at the manual for the pre-amp. I think there are multiple ways you could, like through an spdif cable, or maybe even just the regular output.
the shock mount that was unstable was the old one. i have the same one you have and its a lot better. if you look at some pictures of the mic you will see the difference. thanks for the review. there definitely isn't enough said about this mic.
@Hammett11 have you noticed this mic being extremely sensitive to "hiss". im not referring to mic noise, im talking about more hiss on "S" sounds and things like that. it also seems like i haft to keep my input level down pretty low or the levels peak even though i am backed off of the mic quit a bit. have you noticed anything like that?
@druck502 I have not noticed an "S" hiss, But I will listen carefully and respond shortly. as for the input, I think it's just a really sensitive microphone, but I haven't had enough microphones to compare.
@druck502 The "sss" sound on recording is called sibilance. It is centered around the upper frequencies, usually 8k. It's a quite common occurance in recording, especially with a combination of certain mics with frequency bumps and some singers. You can help by eqing and using a de-esser that will help to combat and smooth out the "sss" sound. Ideally, the best solution is to have the singer smooth out his "sss's" or change his mic position, but a de-esser may help a little if he can't.
@Officialromboi I don't understand what you're asking. In this video I was using a cheap musician's gear mic stand. I now use a tama. The shock mount came with the bluebird.
@5johani Sorry, If I would have known this video would become this popular I would have tried harder to make myself clear, And I would have uploaded it in HD. But it Is a DBX 376 Channel Strip. Thank you for the positive feedback, and the subscription {8^D
Hey, thanx for the video. I'm super mic illiterate, but i just upgraded from an MXL 2006 to the Bluebirl. How big of an upgrade is that? What are the important specs to look at when comparing mics?
@daeser1 From an actual technical standpoint there isn't a whole lot I can tell you that will really matter, believe it or not, I did the same exact thing. The MXL sounds pretty good for it's price but the bluebird makes you, sound like you. whatever you put into the bluebird is pretty much what you're going to get back, The MXL (at least mine) wasn't as clear.
@EKiSBOI There is no compression, it is a valve preamp. I encoded the video so the video quality suffers a little bit, but the audio is 256Kbs mp3 with a sample rate of 48Khz. and the Bluebird is a little brighter than a 57, but I haven't tested it at high volumes. If you would like , I can email you the audio alone at full quality. Thank you for watching.
@901NewEra I'm very glad you like it, I like mine as well. the shock mount is something they may need to fix, but all-in-all it's a great value. Please keep me updated on what you think!
Actually, the baby bottle is more versitile than the bluebird. You change the cap (capsule) on the baby bottle, 10 to choose from for a different sound. The bluebird is what you see is what you get. Still a great mic though, worthy purchase. For future reference, don't ask advice from guitar center employees, you'll regret it.
@Hammett11 Yeah, they can be jerks. Most of them don't know a thing about audio, and on top of that, they get paid off commission, not a good combo. Anyway, it's always good to see someone motivated to turn their music dreams into reality, keep up the good work.
Thanks for taking the time Jesse! Bluebird sounds full all the way around with a smooth top end that's not harsh. lows, mids and highs all seem to have a good balance when running flat. This vid speaks a thousand words. Thanks Again!!
@tomiah2b It's no problem ma'am, I'm glad you enjoyed the video and I'm glad you got something out of it. if you have any specific questions I would be happy to help.
I pulled the thin almost paper-like washers out of shock mount where the screw is that adjusts the position and it holds pretty well. definitely poor design

SolarFalre 6 months ago
Hey whatsup! How much did it cost and where did you get it. Im interested in buying one
taeblac0 1 year ago
@taeblac0 Hey buddy, I bought it at Sam Ash for 300 dollars. It should be the same price everywhere.
Hammett11 1 year ago
@taeblac0 - The Bluebird microphone is $255 on Amazon.
dayingyang0 1 year ago
Awesome! I wish you would have played longer. you rock! And nice microphone.
sweetice879 1 year ago
@sweetice879 Thanks a lot man. I really appreciate it! you should look up the whole song, It's called a talk with George by Jonathan Coulton. He rocks harder than I ever could.
Hammett11 1 year ago
can you plug it into a pre-amp then into a interface?
TheLastConfessions 1 year ago
@TheLastConfessions I think that depends on the pre-amp. I know with mine you can. But before you drop any money, you'll wanna look at the manual for the pre-amp. I think there are multiple ways you could, like through an spdif cable, or maybe even just the regular output.

Does it come with a xlr cable or do you need to buy one?
OnkyoAVR 1 year ago
@OnkyoAVR it did not come with one. I bought the Blue Kiwi cable separately.

@Hammett11 Ok Thank You.

@OnkyoAVR no problem, buddy :^D
Hammett11 1 year ago
yo thats so crazy!!! You speak in your mic and it sounds just find but my top end sound so airy... Did you have any effects on it?
Tracks0nDeck 1 year ago
@Tracks0nDeck no, but I do have a 700 dollar pre-amp. I'm not saying that's your problem, but I don't know what would cause a difference like that
Hammett11 1 year ago
which material is the blue body? is the mic cable with the mic? thx for answering.
Funmichi 1 year ago
@Funmichi it is some sort of metal, I don't know specifically. and no cable came with it
Hammett11 1 year ago
did you order it??
or you bought it at guitar center did it come with the shock mount and filter
jemivader25 1 year ago
@jemivader25 I bought it at guitar center. and yes it came with them
Hammett11 1 year ago
the shock mount that was unstable was the old one. i have the same one you have and its a lot better. if you look at some pictures of the mic you will see the difference. thanks for the review. there definitely isn't enough said about this mic.
druck502 1 year ago
@druck502 Thanks for the feedback, and I 100% agree, and I hate buying things (especially 300 dollars worth) before extensive review
Hammett11 1 year ago
@Hammett11 have you noticed this mic being extremely sensitive to "hiss". im not referring to mic noise, im talking about more hiss on "S" sounds and things like that. it also seems like i haft to keep my input level down pretty low or the levels peak even though i am backed off of the mic quit a bit. have you noticed anything like that?
druck502 1 year ago
@druck502 I have not noticed an "S" hiss, But I will listen carefully and respond shortly. as for the input, I think it's just a really sensitive microphone, but I haven't had enough microphones to compare.
Hammett11 1 year ago
@druck502 The "sss" sound on recording is called sibilance. It is centered around the upper frequencies, usually 8k. It's a quite common occurance in recording, especially with a combination of certain mics with frequency bumps and some singers. You can help by eqing and using a de-esser that will help to combat and smooth out the "sss" sound. Ideally, the best solution is to have the singer smooth out his "sss's" or change his mic position, but a de-esser may help a little if he can't.

ive been look for mic stands for this mic and i cant find it...how did u get it to be like that?
Officialromboi 1 year ago
@Officialromboi I don't understand what you're asking. In this video I was using a cheap musician's gear mic stand. I now use a tama. The shock mount came with the bluebird.
Hammett11 1 year ago
What kind of pre amp do you use?
pavmx703 1 year ago
@pavmx703 It is a DBX 376 Channel Strip
Hammett11 1 year ago
its cool how it kinda focuses more on your voice when you get closer
rontaek1 1 year ago
@rontaek1 It does a very good job of only picking up what is in front of it, especially considering it's a condenser mic.
Hammett11 1 year ago
you used what channel strip?? I cann't hear that cleary cause i'm not native listener. anyway good review~!!
5johani 1 year ago
@5johani Sorry, If I would have known this video would become this popular I would have tried harder to make myself clear, And I would have uploaded it in HD. But it Is a DBX 376 Channel Strip. Thank you for the positive feedback, and the subscription {8^D

Hammett11 1 year ago
Hey, thanx for the video. I'm super mic illiterate, but i just upgraded from an MXL 2006 to the Bluebirl. How big of an upgrade is that? What are the important specs to look at when comparing mics?
Thanks again for your help.
daeser1 1 year ago
@daeser1 From an actual technical standpoint there isn't a whole lot I can tell you that will really matter, believe it or not, I did the same exact thing. The MXL sounds pretty good for it's price but the bluebird makes you, sound like you. whatever you put into the bluebird is pretty much what you're going to get back, The MXL (at least mine) wasn't as clear.
Hammett11 1 year ago
@EKiSBOI There is no compression, it is a valve preamp. I encoded the video so the video quality suffers a little bit, but the audio is 256Kbs mp3 with a sample rate of 48Khz. and the Bluebird is a little brighter than a 57, but I haven't tested it at high volumes. If you would like , I can email you the audio alone at full quality. Thank you for watching.
Hammett11 1 year ago
just got my bluebird. I instantly feel in love with it even thought the shock mount doesn't fit.
901NewEra 1 year ago
@901NewEra I'm very glad you like it, I like mine as well. the shock mount is something they may need to fix, but all-in-all it's a great value. Please keep me updated on what you think!

@Jujucaster1 haha, a little bit. if it wasn't for Hetfield I wouldn't be playing guitar. did the tab books and the shirt give me away? ;^)

@dmkabdullah Thank you for the comment and the compliment. I will :)
Hammett11 1 year ago
Actually, the baby bottle is more versitile than the bluebird. You change the cap (capsule) on the baby bottle, 10 to choose from for a different sound. The bluebird is what you see is what you get. Still a great mic though, worthy purchase. For future reference, don't ask advice from guitar center employees, you'll regret it.
CDZONE6 1 year ago
@CDZONE6 I didn't really ask him, I was conversing with my friend when he butted in, he was kind of a dick too.
Hammett11 1 year ago
@Hammett11 Yeah, they can be jerks. Most of them don't know a thing about audio, and on top of that, they get paid off commission, not a good combo. Anyway, it's always good to see someone motivated to turn their music dreams into reality, keep up the good work.

@CDZONE6 Thank you very much for your kind words. I wish you the same.

I have 2 bluebirds... the shockmounts BLOW! On one, my tightneing know broke off after a week and the other is won't tighten that well...
at least the mics sound decent..
but sheesh...stop making shit in China.
dittocardgame 1 year ago
@dittocardgame Yes, that is why I mentioned that, the shock mount is not very adequate. it does tend to slip quite frequently.
Hammett11 1 year ago
Thanks for taking the time Jesse! Bluebird sounds full all the way around with a smooth top end that's not harsh. lows, mids and highs all seem to have a good balance when running flat. This vid speaks a thousand words. Thanks Again!!
