Well, I watched many of your videos, but I'm not sure if you have explained all algorithms for the fridrich method as you use them in this video. There has been some cases where I thought "What the hell has he actually done?" O.o
What I can say is that your explanations are very useful and helpful and I appreciate your work!
Sorry for the bad grammar, english isn't my mother tongue as you might noticed, haha.
@Kingpin3o7 you should be able to solve all 41 f2l cases blindfolded... getting the hang of the content in this video takes a LOT of time and determination
at 3:50 you say that that orange/green pair requires a CR , but it doesn't, you can just do the algorithm for it from that angle and it is 2 gen ( l an u)
sometimes, i try not to do cube rotations but i have to do F and B turns that are very uncomfortable and slow. from there should i just do a cube rotation??
@JBoogie300 try to use minimal F moves but never attempt to use B in some cases 1 F move+ R U moves s faster than cube rotation + R U moves usually inserting the last slot
idk if anyone said so earlier, but a 2:40, imo it wouldve been easier with : (U'RU'R') then having 2 pairs together (RG and RB), insert both with R'U'FRF'... just stating a fact here, not trying to judge.... instead of fucking your RG pair up.... my two cents :)
Meph. You are the MAN!!! Out of all the people on YouTube you give the most epic tutorials and instructional videos I've seen. You've helped me move up from LBL that came as an instruction sheet when I bought my first Cube about a month ago and now I'm doing full Fridricks averaging about 30 seconds now because of your videos. Keep up the good work man!
how long would you say it takes the average person to get a hang of this step? sometimes it takes me multiple minutes just to get one pair in the right spot, usually the most trouble comes from pairs being next to each other but in the wrong orientation
@jopeters if the pairs are next to each other but in the wrong orientation, put them in the back row of the cube and do r 2u r' if they are not separated do r u r'
how long did it takes for you too get this good at f2l? and do you think that i should be this secure at f2l before i continue to learn oll? and one last question :p should i learn 2look oll first and then full oll or full oll first?
im not a pro but i average 19 seconds id learn 2look oll first and know atleast 2look pll but go for full pll. and solve the f2l intuitivly as much as possible youll begin to get faster. Good Luck
get a cross on the last lyr first, then use a oll hence 2look oll. for pll u orient corners and edges, so its 2 looks for both in total 4 for last lyr
i only just started learning f2l, but i know you're being 100% honest about the edges. a while ago i noticed i started seeing the other edges while solving for the second layer edges, which made it so i didn't have to search for them and would sometimes rotate immediately after solving for the edge. i guess that's how you feel, only in a much more complicated way XD
haha you guys are making me feel like a noob! im just now trying to learn all this stuff. i mean, i average 40 seconds using a slightly modified beginners method, but im nowhere near as fast as i wanna be. lol
@ about 3:52 you call the green/orange pair an ugly pair...don't be so inpolite :p but seriously you can do it without a rotation. just do U' L2 U2 L' U' L' U' L2
wow..another great video. One problem, is that you move and talk so fast sometimes, but it is expected..lol. Is there a program or something to slow down a utube vid to follow your finger movements and such..your moves are so fast and fluid smooth, i cannot follow it to get pointers on how to handle the cube...
Woah, somehow, my first comment didn't get posted... Have you tried VHLS (called VHF2L but it really isn't), It would cut your times once you get it down, because you only have corners to orient, so not as many OLL's to recognize (saves time in OLL when you only have anti/sune and corners right?) If not, at least think about it...
Do not even think about learning the vhF2L if you are not planninb on the ZBLL. It is a waste of time, I have seen begginer speedcubers learn this in attempt to cut down there times and it has not worked.
Well, I already know all of the corner OLL's, the "two-look" one look OLL's and one or two more awkward ones (The W's, and some of the OLL's that appear in Y-perm and the inverse of the W's)
I've never liked any of the ZB ZZ method. To may algorithims. While the first person to master it will probably hold the next world record. It wouldn't be quite as fun as it would be to do another method.
Yes, at 5:42 it required you to do a y2 move, there must be an eassyer way...Maybe if you toke them out with your left hand and did something I'm sure if you look at the case agen it should be eassy to figure out...
your intuition is insane. how did you get your intuition to that level? did it come with time? any tips would be greatly appreciated. i only average 1:20 with fredrich and i watched your 2 look PLL it helped a lot and i would like to improve more. please keep the vids coming and keep up the great work
Haha i see... I havent cubed alot since 2 weeks ago. But my best was 33. I had a case with 2 F2L slots already in line so, for that it was 27. I average 40's.
After watching this video, the best thing that helped me get into the low 20's was talking to my self while doing slow solves. I would think and reason out loud and talk about the exact same things he is. I found this to be extremely helpful, good luck!
If you can't follow your moves, you need to get in a lot more practice before looking ahead.
Study the actions basic case algorithms and see what's happening to the corner and edge and how it happens. This helps your deductive reasoning when pairing corners and edges intuitively, so that you become better after.
Damn, I've just watching your videos and practicing for, 3 hours or more, and I've already lowered my time from ~1:05 to ~0:45, with the cross "class", some tought tips and I've FINALLY managed to learn the F2L REALLY intuitively (was almost there =D).
Btw, Love the Quotes and the Bloopers. Requesting Permission to use "This is a Sune, I can't Resist" in public (probably in Portuguese, but still =D)
FR means the piece he is mentioning is at the Front Right position, FL for Front Left , BR for Back Right and BL for Back Left. That is what i notice, but it may not be true.
i have a problem. I studied all of the F2L algs, but Im still slow. I get 30 secs, with a 24 sec pb. I think that intuitive is faster because you know what you are doing, and u can turn the cube faster. Can u please make a video on you solving the cube using fridrich but intuitively? thnx
first of all great video. pretty much read my mind on what I was hoping for. just one question, what algorithm did you use at 5:42? Or was it just a... "pop out, separate, and solve" type of thing. i couldn't see because you went so fast. lol
an important tip to learning your scanning better is to do it slow enough so you can scan and find a pair by the time you're finished a previous f2l corner with just muscle memory
stefan huber the austrian guy has a pretty good one step stop thought processes vid too. sum how the WAY you explain things in ur video is always so crisp clear =)
thats a good question. not always. I always have a good idea where the corner and edge are, but I dont always know how they are oriented. This can be checked much faster however, unlike where you had no idea, and have to actually find them first.
So... to answer, I kind of do a mix right now. I try do both obviously, but many times I'm only good enough to do positions. It depends.
Last 2 months ago i can't even do F2L now after learning F2L, 2 look OLL, 2 look PLL (thanks to badmephisto's videos) I am now averaging 1 min to 1.10 min; my fastest cube is 43 sec; I wonder what would be my time after learning the full OLL and PLL; for now I am trying to best my time on my F2L;
besides learning new ways to do the f2l algs(i learned them by trial and error, so my ways r the slowest ever...) i also learned something else. i cant believe i havnt figured this out on my own..............
turning the top layer instead of a cube rotation for oll+pll.
So before you start on a pair you take time to look around at which pair is better to solve first? Wow, that would take me more time but I guess that's how to get faster.
well, sort of. I dont actively look for other pairs, I usually just take what jumps out at me. Sometimes in the middle of solving a pair, and see something easier, I switch. Its a pretty chaotic process, and it all depends on the case, grip, and stuff like that. You should experiment, try to do different things, and reflect back on how you think they worked out. Next time you face a similar decision, try a different approach, reflect again. Back and forth always learning and trying.
Currently i use intuitive f2l. Is it better to use the algorithms instead? I figure it would be cause you can take your eyes off the the pair you are inserting and look ahead better, but is that true?
If you learn your f2l algorithms visually, then eventually they will eventually be intuitive.
It's best to start out slow and look ahead for the best/shortest case and also learn every case and know how it affects other pieces (maybe not know it but, you'll see how it will affect others)
haha, I get accidental x-cross sometimes. Sometimes my sub-20 solves turn into sup-20 because I'm looking for the last pair that's actually solved. :P
This is a very nice video:) Though I think that if you look ahead for F2L pairs during cross, it could minimize a lot of the guessing going on in your F2L but you may do that already. You were probably just focusing on F2L, though I think that the time between cross and F2L is very important.
you are correct. I do that in normal solves as much as possible, but i was talking while making cross in multiple occasions there, so that distracted me. you are correct.
yea... your next video could be a thought process of cross to F2L time reduction:) I would make one but I am not fast yet. I do think that I have a good understanding of advanced cubing concepts though...
Well, I watched many of your videos, but I'm not sure if you have explained all algorithms for the fridrich method as you use them in this video. There has been some cases where I thought "What the hell has he actually done?" O.o

How did you lube your cube?
7rieM7 3 years ago
i have a problem. I studied all of the F2L algs, but Im still slow. I get 30 secs, with a 24 sec pb. I think that intuitive is faster because you know what you are doing, and u can turn the cube faster. Can u please make a video on you solving the cube using fridrich but intuitively? thnx
CubeFish1524 3 years ago
algorithms are just the fastest way of doing the moves, it is still done in the same way as intuitive.

nice video... nice cube too.. but bro.. was the color of ur cube made of sticker or paint or whatsoever.. pls reply tnx
rjmst20 3 years ago
first of all great video. pretty much read my mind on what I was hoping for. just one question, what algorithm did you use at 5:42? Or was it just a... "pop out, separate, and solve" type of thing. i couldn't see because you went so fast. lol
dm47 3 years ago
lets see if i can do this from my head, it is, i think, holding the f2l case in the Back-Right position:
R' U R U2 y R U R' U R U' R
badmephisto 3 years ago
yep it works. thanks ^^

what kind of cube(s) do you use/recommend?
theribikscuber 3 years ago
DIY :)
rmnastor 3 years ago
what type?
theribikscuber 3 years ago
type C
rmnastor 3 years ago
no, C is not a good choice D is the best
aziandrm21 3 years ago
Jeez you are good at cubing, you get better every video lol but you explain it so well Nice vid Badmephisto

I really like one step stop vids.. I get to learn some f2l tricks. thanks

b,
can u do blind folded?
rmnastor 3 years ago
yes. not much into it though
badmephisto 3 years ago
is true that cubers who have success with blind folded are better cuber than those who don't?
rmnastor 3 years ago
no...
Halocuber 3 years ago
an important tip to learning your scanning better is to do it slow enough so you can scan and find a pair by the time you're finished a previous f2l corner with just muscle memory

badmephisto,
i bet u know harris chan, i'm just currious what can u say about his cubing? what cubing techniques is he using?
rmnastor 3 years ago
badmephisto,
i've seen ur canadian cubing vid and i was wondering who are u among the participants..
rmnastor 3 years ago
read the video description :)
badmephisto 3 years ago
Badmephisto,
are you using pure intuitive or pure algorithm based F2L?
right now, i'm using pure intuitive.
but i'm planning to study some f2l algs.
can you like tell me what the most important f2l algs are?
so i know what i should really watch out for.
I average around 30 secs with my F2L
btw: been cubing for 1 and a half months now.

stefan huber the austrian guy has a pretty good one step stop thought processes vid too. sum how the WAY you explain things in ur video is always so crisp clear =)

your so fast on solving the cross;
rmnastor 3 years ago
when you're tracking pairs, do you also track the pieces's orientation?
Vulosity 3 years ago
thats a good question.
It depends.
good question.

Last 2 months ago i can't even do F2L now after learning F2L, 2 look OLL, 2 look PLL (thanks to badmephisto's videos) I am now averaging 1 min to 1.10 min; my fastest cube is 43 sec; I wonder what would be my time after learning the full OLL and PLL; for now I am trying to best my time on my F2L;

"I guess for now your just stuck with me!" We all love you badmephisto.
TadoxTrivium 3 years ago
besides learning new ways to do the f2l algs(i learned them by trial and error, so my ways r the slowest ever...) i also learned something else. i cant believe i havnt figured this out on my own..............
turning the top layer instead of a cube rotation for oll+pll.
HoboSapien23 3 years ago
Ah, I am trying to do that but I cannot train my self to not do a cube rotation. for pll its hard, oll easy.
TadoxTrivium 3 years ago
who cant resist the sune!
kickinwing2112 3 years ago 3
So before you start on a pair you take time to look around at which pair is better to solve first? Wow, that would take me more time but I guess that's how to get faster.
coachcashmoney 3 years ago
well, sort of. Back and forth always learning and trying.
badmephisto 3 years ago
thanks i just was about to ask you to give us a look ahead video thanks
ChrisBrandariz 3 years ago
Nvm, i'm dumb and didn't pay attention to the video. Sorry for the dumb question.
CrumpetWarrior 3 years ago
Currently i use intuitive f2l. Is it better to use the algorithms instead? I figure it would be cause you can take your eyes off the the pair you are inserting and look ahead better, but is that true?
CrumpetWarrior 3 years ago
If you learn your f2l algorithms visually, then eventually they will eventually be intuitive.
It's best to start out slow and look ahead for the best/shortest case and also learn every case and know how it affects other pieces (maybe not know it but, you'll see how it will affect others)
haukzi 3 years ago
can't resist the sune. great video, always helpful.
enigmatp 3 years ago
you are so fast!!! if you are using your type d cube, then I am SO BAD with my type d!!!
AQ93habs 3 years ago
haha, I get accidental x-cross sometimes. Sometimes my sub-20 solves turn into sup-20 because I'm looking for the last pair that's actually solved. :P

excellent on the tutorial this should help me out when doing F2l

your voice kinda changed :P your videos of the best, your thought process videos are really great
boiswatching 3 years ago
This is a very nice video:) Though I think that if you look ahead for F2L pairs during cross, it could minimize a lot of the guessing going on in your F2L but you may do that already. You were probably just focusing on F2L, though I think that the time between cross and F2L is very important.
shamah02 3 years ago
you are correct. I do that in normal solves as much as possible, but i was talking while making cross in multiple occasions there, so that distracted me. you are correct.
badmephisto 3 years ago
yea... your next video could be a thought process of cross to F2L time reduction:) I would make one but I am not fast yet. I do think that I have a good understanding of advanced cubing concepts though...
shamah02 3 years ago
no i already have something else in mind :p
