Your tutorials aren't bad, but you need to work on scripting. Don't just get in front of the camera and talk - too many "ummms.." and such.
Also, your comments are ISO are not quite correct - ISO is the measurement of the sensitivity of the SENSOR to light - you kept referring to FILM speed, which in a DSLR tutorial is kinda dopey. And you can't just asy "ISO 200 is a good speed", you need to say WHY - what does changing the ISO give you, as a photographer? Tell people WHY to change ISO.
@yarcek It cut off my last comment lol. What I stated in the last comment does not pertain to "prime" lenses. A prime lens has a fixed aperture meaning it does not adjust to let more or less light in.
@yarcek Your lens will have a minimum aperture and a maximum aperture. Lets use my kit lens for example, it is an F/3.5-5.6 18-55mm lens, that means that if the lens is at its shortest point (18mm) then the maximum aperture it can open up to is aperture 3.5. If my lens was zoomed all the way to 55mm, then the maximum aperture it could open up to would be 5.6. All lenses have a minimim aperture of something like f32 (sometimes more, sometimes less) and you control that on your camera. What I jus
Hey you have just made me understand exactly what I havent been able to from watching loads of other videos!! Thank you do much for taking the time to pass on your knowledge to a noob like me. Your the man.
When you first started talking, I thought...OK this guy is a bit slow. But...I was so excited...from all the pros I have watched on YT...you have hit the spot in explaining what every knob is for in a cool ... as it is way ! I love how you show me how it works ! Thank You !
i dont get smoething, the aperture is controlled by the camera, but it takes effect on the LENS? (detachable), or in the, lets say the "integrated camera lens"?
Great tutorial!! But i have a question. I was outside on a cloudy day but it was still quite light outside and I was trying to use a shutter speed of around 8 second, i set my aperture to F29, and ISO to 100. So when i set my focus point and took a picture the picture was completely white. I tryed changing everything and eventually i could only get the picture to the point it was still really white and I could only see little of the picture. How can I fix this? Is there something im doing wrong?
@snakegunnerrulez 8 seconds is a long shutter speed to shoot in pure daylight. try going down to f 5.6, 200th of a second, ISO 100-200 or something around that area. there should be an EV meter on your LCD that displays how light/dark your exposure is, so you can fiddle with any variable but just make sure it eventually lands on the 0 EV mark to get a correct exposure
Trouble was, I wanted to take all these cool shots, and I had all these great ideas... but I didn't know how to get started... and I didn't think I had all the specialist equipment I'd need.
@PhotoExtremist actually this person does not even exist, I hate when folks open accounts, yet their is nothing whatsoever on there page. spammer in otherwords, keep up the good work Photoextremist
Why in the world would someone take their lens off and expose their sensor like that?? It is no breeze cleaning a senor, nor is it cheap. That just shocked me.
Thanks for this video! I took a photography class a couple years ago and my professor was terrible at explaining things. I already knew kinda what these things were but you cleared it all up. But I have a question. For taking "light trails" and pictures of the stars at night, would I want to boost my ISO way up? Or just have a really long shutter speed?
okay question. I have a T3i, and the kit lens that was provided with it. I shoot video and want to know, i have the settings on ap-3.5, iso-800, and shutter speed-30. that is just about how i get decent video with minimal noise, but its not too bright. its the lens restriction correct? if i had a lesser ap level it would be brighter correct? or more ambient light? that is the understanding of it? and is that why the kit lens does not do well in low light without noise?
@omegagodly For video, a lower f number = lower noise, because more light is getting into the sensor, so the sensor doesn't need to boost the sensitivity (which would bring about noise). I guess lowering the FPS might help a tiny bit as well (24fps).
@omegagodly the kit lens is just a simple kit lens canon wants you to buy all the other lenses. for video just get a 50mm f1.8 which is under 100 USD and you will be amazed to see low light performance for video as well as photography
@omegagodly Why in the world are you shooting at ISO800? That's your problem. Unless you're shooting in really low light, shoot as close to 100 as possible. I use a 1Ds Mark III primarily and the senor is much more sensitive and I have to worry about my ISO more than someone using a Rebel like the T3i because the crop senors aren't nearly as sensitive as the full frame CMOS in the III. In short. Lower your ISO because unless you're in a dim room or at dusk, you don't need 800ISO.
I think your videos are great. I've just bought my first DSLR, which is a Pentax k5, and still have a great deal to learn, But your videos are a great help to me thank-you
Cost of a DSLR training session = 400€ and 2hours. Cost of this video = Free! 10 minutes of your time. I love to see how things are changing and there is more access for amateurs to start creating their own stuff. Thank You!
Good Tutorial But Note For Newbies ..Having Your Camera Open Like That Especially When Its Powered Up ..It Becomes A Vacuum That Sucks Up All The Dust Etc.. That Won't Be Good For The Sensor.. So While This Is An Awesome Tutorial I Won't Advice Anyone To Have Their Sensor Exposed Like That.

@PhotoExtremist...Interesting that you make that statement. Have you ever watched a sports event and noticed all those "white" lenses? Those are CANON lenses mounted on CANON cameras, being used by people who make a living with their cameras. Canon and Nikon are alone at the top of the heap and everything--and I mean EVERYTHING--else is below them. But, again, just because someone shoots with a Canon or Nikon doesn't make their images great...it's the person behind the camera that matters.

I have a Nikon, a Canon EOS and a Fugi camera - All are good cameras and have served me well. I know many pro photographers and they all use either Nikon or Canon with no problems creating stunning images. At the end of the day it's all about the photographer - not the equipment..... I've taken amazing shots with just a Point and shoot....
Thanks allot man for that .its amazing tutorial ,but unfortuntly i haven't slr camera just semi pro camera and i know all that, but i want to get slr to do that in profisionaly way. :D thanks again.
quality video good explanations for beginners (not using photography terminology) big help I learned alot just from this video so gonna watch the rest.
@kurahadol3 just go on the website and take a look at the lower end models, or go to a camera store and ask to look at the cameras and ask the salesman for advice, and get the camera that fits you best. new cams come out like every month so i can't give advice on this question
@kurahadol3 You should definitely go for the Nikon D3100, it is an excellent entry-level user-friendly DSLR. It takes pretty amazing photos and is easy to learn and also does 1080p video at 24fps.
@kurahadol3 Buy a nikon d3100 if u have just a little money to spend. It does decent photos and video for a great price. If you want something better get a nikon d5100 and if you want better a nikon d7000
hey great video im shooting people surf i have the same camera as you. and i was wondering if i should use shutter priority mode in manual or auto focus any would would be greatly appreciated

I know many pro photographers and they all use either Nikon or Canon with no problems creating stunning images. At the end of the day it's all about the photographer - not the equipment..... I've taken amazing shots with just a Point and shoot....

I'm a beginner and now i'm saving my monrey for DSLR. the question is which Nikon DSLR camera i should buy?
kurahadol3 9 months ago
@kurahadol3 just go on the website and take a look at the lower end models, or go to a camera store and ask to look at the cameras and ask the salesman for advice, and get the camera that fits you best. new cams come out like every month so i can't give advice on this question

@kurahadol3 thanks for replying :).however, this vid help me a lot :)
kurahadol3 9 months ago
@kurahadol3 You should definitely go for the Nikon D3100, it is an excellent entry-level user-friendly DSLR. It takes pretty amazing photos and is easy to learn and also does 1080p video at 24fps.

@kurahadol3 Buy a nikon d3100 if u have just a little money to spend. It does decent photos and video for a great price. If you want something better get a nikon d5100 and if you want better a nikon d7000

Danedvorak 10 months ago
@Danedvorak Well, you CAN, but the pictures would be just one huge gigantic blur. Not a lot of point in doing it.
