4:40 "I can't claim inner bightness for myself. If you say you see it in me, I'm honoured, but I can't tell you that you ought to be seeing it."
That's a basic principle and that's true humility. It's such a shame that so many people - no matter the religious faith or the absence of it, the social and the intellectual level - just ignore this fundamental precept. That's one of the reasons why Hitchens is my favorite among these so-called New Atheist writers.
Oh my god, I've posted a similar comment about Chris (yes, I'd like to think I'm on first name basis with him by now). There is something very... attractive about this man.

hitchens is not a genius at all. he did not graduate with top grades in oxford. he knows this is the only life he's gonna get and he lives with a glass of scotch on one hand and a cigarete on another. besides that he supports the invasion of iraq, but i suspect that has something to do with his anti-religious ideas.
I could care less about his school record or his IQ for that matter, he is a genius. Anyone to suggest otherwise is either extremely ignorant or extremely jealous.
Just because you don't agree with somebody does not mean they are not intelligent. There are many things that he says I don't agree with but I am still intellectually honest enough to know he is a brilliant guy.
I was 6 in 1976, and I remember how optimistic everybody was about how America would continue to progress. It was only 7 years after the moon landing, and we were still making our own cars and VCRs. Science and education were valued, instead of being regarded as "liberal elitism".
Today, our government and our press are controlled by a decidedly non-liberal elite, and our culture is polluted with faith-based nonsense. I am decidedly less optimistic.
And after doing a little research, I've discovered that a shocking number of P. candidates would advocate prayer in schools, and would advocate the teaching of pseudo-science having equal time with evolution.
A wonderful interview with a penetrating intellect. We got to hear some new thoughts from the man himself. Thanks for posting this wonderful video! Gracias!

He does have a way about him. The accent, the intelligence, the confidence, they are good qualities. He's quite entertaining

I listened again, and you're quite right.

Yeah, it's very worrying.

I wonder how quickly they would return the favour and advocate the teaching of Science in Sunday School.
