Boy, were they ahead of their time! If they thought television caused the demise of a lot of printed newspapers, what do you suppose they would think of what the internet is doing to them????
@DEATHBYFLYINGCDS Yes, there used to be a saying, "Black as the ace of spades" That's why the african americans turn and look at the camera when he says "spade" and he acts all embarrassed
George said, many years later, that he got sick of acting in TV variety show sketches in the 60's - and he was a guest on almost all of them. His quote was "I got tired of wearing the bunny suit". He agreed to host the very first SNL in 1975 but wouldn't be in any sketches. He did shortened versions of his stand-up routines instead.
He had to go through shit to reach his goal! As he said "When swimming through life, do the breast stroke. It'll help you clear the shit from your path."
Their are a lot of great interviews with george carlin on youtube where he talks about this "variety show" period of his life. While he did shows like this during the day, at night he was smoking pot with friends at jazz clubs and immersing himself in the burgeoning 'counter culture."
i know someone already said star trek landing party - or sumthin like that - very true - love george & the smothers & super dave - & i wanna 3 way with anyone of them hott lil numbers & i wish mr dixon woulda been my history teacher - opps thats a room 222 thing
Back in those days he did TV shows constantly. I mean, there was no HBO until '77, and his record sales were only really good in the early 70's. So, basically he did literally hundreds of shows like this. When you do that many, some are just gonna suck.

@MUFC127 urbandictionary says "A derogatory term for an African American, more commonly used in the post-Civil War era than today."

I got hard money that says Carlin is just mouthing the words. You can tell he's uncomfortable with even the thought of singing.
