I'm living in south Ireland on an exposed hill that gets quite cold winds and i'm hoping to grow pear trees in this manner is there any measures i can take to increase my chances of a high fruit yield ?
@machinegunkelly776 To be honest the circumstances are against you. You may be able to grow tougher varieties of pear such as Hessle, maybe behind a hedge of tougher still plants such as blackthorn. You can sometimes improve your microclimate with hedges against the prevailing wind. If you can buld a stone wall and plant an espalier pear on the sunward side of it, that might be your best bet but its a big investment. Pears do prefer sunnier climates.
