Thomas Quasthoff ist meiner Meinung nach einer der bemerkenswertesten Musikern unserer Zeit. Er wurde abgelehnt und nicht ernstgenommen, er durfte aufgrund seiner Physis nicht studieren. Stellt euch nur vor was verloren gegangen wäre, wenn er aufgegeben hätte.

Nun ist er selbst Professor für Gesang und hat meiner Meinung nach eine von Deutschlands ausdrucksstärksten Männerstimmen.

Dass er Professor für Gesang ist und somit auch Erstsemestler unterrichtet finde ich jedoch völlig daneben.Er sollte eine Liedprofessur entgegennehmen,anstatt mit Anfängern statt Basisarbeit nur musikalisch zu arbeiten. Aber Quasthoff als Künstler ist ein Phänomen und einmalig in deutscher und internationaler Gesangsgeschichte.

I absolutely love this piece, and the entire DVD is amazing.

I have a question for the pianists out there - I'm just learning myself and I notice that the score for this piece calls for D#, A+E at the opening on the bass cleft.

Yet Barenboim seems to be playing B, F+C - which is the same spacing, but a bit lower.

Artistic license? Would this to be accomodate Quasthoff's vocal characteristics?

this is no real accent, this kind of pronounciation is just something very often used in classic peaces. i think that in English they also sing with a different pronounciation in classics.;)

es ist sehr schwer einen solisten zu finden, der auch begleiten kann... ein guter begleiter ist, wie man sagt, ist fast schwiriger als ein solist zu sein. hier haben wir ein begleiter, er begleitet aber auch seine eigene idee hervorbringt. das...ist fast einmalig.

quasthoff, sowieso... alles durchgedacht, alle atempausen, musikalische höhe und tiefe punkte sehr gut durchgehalten... das ist sicher eine der beste leiermann...
