I´m spanish and i know the history of Cid.
I see that you know much about the history os Spain , for exemple : many of the muslim in spain were of hispanoromano and visigoths were forced to convert to islam and berbers.
When finished the reconquest many muslim still living in the south but they revolted and demanded the help of the turks in 1568 , Felipe II ordered reinforcements to come from Italy , seeing that they were a danger they were expelled in 1609.

They built a fleet much larger than the Spanish Armada a fleet consisting of 186 vessels with the intent of conquering the entire Spanish Empire in the Americas and they STILL failed. @karnermm That was not my intention. I don't know yous friends, so I can't say if they are fundamentalists or not. What I said was that many Muslims are so. My fathers lived in Irak for 2 years and they were persecuted because they were Christians. If you are not a Muslim and you step into a Mosque, in some countries they can even kill you. Take this good piece of advise and be aware of the threat that Islam is for the world (not concrete people, I repeat, but Islam itself).

i loved this movie as a young boy and 35 years since first seeing it i still love it. i just week the entire video was in english on youtube. i wouldnt mind seeing the animated version as well. i am interested in knowing how the animated version incorporates cid's death in what seems to be a lighthearted version. also i must say that i am glad to see this opening gives homage to the african (moors) who also settled, established, and fought for spain's independence.

I'm not European, but El Cid is the most perfect knight and warlord of all Europe.
A Christian at heart, and a Christian at deed. Unlike Duke William of Normandy, the brutal warlord or Robert Guiscard the plunderer, or the Pope himself and of course the marauding Vikings. El Cid showcased himself to be a man of skill, of valor, of courage, of compassion and for the love of his country Spain.
Above all, he is the greatest, Christian knight ever. An example for the world.

He was honorble man and great warrior but he wasnt afraid of killing people for glory like Duke William of Normandy! In fact William probaly had more of Crusader than El Cid. Vikings werent only marauders or babarians! They were also people of arts culture and comerce and honorble warriors I sugest you read more about medieval european history
